I Just Saw a Leaf Fall!

by Chester Guzek, Assistant General Manager Yes, leaf time has arrived. The fun time of raking and bagging has begun. With the two or three leaves that might fall on your property, we would like to remind you about the do’s and don’ts of leaf removal. The DO’s! 1. Have fun and enjoy the great outdoors! 2. After raking into piles and having to rerake due to the urge to jump into your pile, either you or your contractor may bag your leaves and take to the 9.9 maintenance area. 3. You may mulch them. By using your lawn mower, you can chop up your leaves. The leaves will biodegrade and provide nutrients for your lawn. 4. You can “leave” them be. You can do nothing. However, uncut leaves take longer to biodegrade. 5. You can start a compost pile in an inconspicuous part of your property, and use later for flower pots, raised gardens etc. Now for the DON’Ts! 1. Do not look at leaf removal as a tedious chore; look at it as being one with nature and a great way to get some exercise. 2. Please do not blow your leaves into the lakes and ditches. LOWA Maintenance will routinely do ditch leaf removal. However, if the ditch has been intentionally filled with leaves, Maintenance will not remove those leaves. You will then receive a notice to bring this matter to your attention. You will then have seven days to remedy the issue. Then, if the problem persists, you will receive a summons to the Legal and Compliance Committee. 3. If you happen to live on the golf course, please refrain from blowing your leaves onto the golf course. You will receive a notice as well. Plus you do not want golf maintenance to blow them back into your yard!

Happy Halloween! October 31 Events Schedule Come and Bring your Candy!

by Sylvia Zelinsky, Community Operations Manager • Trick-or-Treating in Lake of the Woods is Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 PM. If you are going to Clubhouse Point or to the LOW Church, you will not be home, or you simply wish not to participate, please turn your outside lights off so the trick-or-treaters will know to pass your house by. • Trunk or Treat at the Lake of the Woods Church is Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 PM. At 5:30 PM, those giving out treats should arrive and find a spot along the upper parking lot at the LOW Church. Use the trunk of your car and simply give out your treats! If you have questions or would like to register your “trunk,” contact Sherri at sherri@lowchurch.org or call the LOW Church at 972-9060. For trick or treaters, parking is in the lower level parking lot and you will follow the Memory Garden path to the upper level parking lot. • Treats on the Point is Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 PM. At 5:45 PM, those giving out treats should arrive and find their spot along the path behind the Clubhouse. Use a picnic table, bring your own table and chair, or simply stand there with a big bucket of treats! If you have questions or would like to give out candy, please give us a heads-up call at 972-9680. These are opportunities for members of Lake of the Woods who live on an unpopulated road or on Lakeview Parkway to give out candy and to see all the smiling faces in a safe environment. Rain won’t stop us; we will go inside the Church or the lower level of the Clubhouse. To all clubs and organizations: this is a wonderful chance to publicize and promote your organization. Signs and banners are permitted. Starting at 6 PM, trick or treaters arrive to collect their goodies. Be there on time, if the candy runs out, the event will be over and the path will be closed. At 7 PM Treats at the Church and at Clubhouse Point will end; trick or treaters will go home to survey their loot or go visit their friends’ and neighbors’ houses for another hour. Please remember, if a home’s outside lights are off, pass them by. Treaters collapse, enjoy any left-over candy (don’t worry there won’t be much), and wonder which of their visitors was really the cutest, scariest, or funniest.
