on A BEACHY STATE OF MIND: I grew up in Rhode Island, the Ocean State. The beach is my favorite place to be! It’s where I feel the most peaceful and happy. I miss being close to the beach and I try to get to Hilton Head when I need my “fix.”

on CREATIVE BEGINNINGS: I’ve worked in a variety of creative fields my entire career. My first job was managing an upscale salon in Rhode Island. While I worked there, I couldn’t help but pick up tips from the stylists. When I later worked in a dental office, women were always asking me for hair and makeup tips. Soon after, I realized that I wanted to go to cosmetology school to become a hairstylist.

on FOLLOWING A STYLISH PATH: Fast forward 30 years and I decided to take my creativity in a new direction as a personal stylist. I’ve always loved fashion and, in my eyes, hair and fashion have always been intertwined. It’s the total look. Personally, I stick to a classic look that doesn’t go out of style each season but that you can add and adjust the look to fit different trends as they come and go. Being flexible with accessories and mixing different pieces is the way to keep things fresh in your wardrobe. It’s exciting to think out of the box.

on GRABBING HOLD OF CHALLENGES:

My greatest challenge with starting a new business is patience. I’m someone who likes everything to happen as soon as I initiate it. I have to tell myself not to get overwhelmed with everything that needs to get done and check off one item on my list at a time. I prioritize my daily to-do lists, but if I don’t get it all done, I try not to get stressed about it.

on EMBRACING COMMUNITY: The first time I came to visit Lake Norman, it felt like home. When we moved here in 1997, it was during the big housing boom and a time of major growth in the area. There were lots of people transitioning from all over the country, so it was easy to meet new friends. The people and the weather are wonderful. Moving here was one of the best decisions that I ever made! w
