I LOVE CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF Lake Norman women. But I have to admit, working on our annual men’s issue puts a big smile on my face because it’s our chance to celebrate and thank them for all they do.

e rst man I loved was my father. I realize that’s not terribly unique—most young girls adore their daddy. But make no mistake, daddy’s little princess I was not. In fact, my father, although he didn’t know it, was a feminist way before feminism was cool. Determined that no daughter of his would be dependent on a man, there was no pampering or spoiling his little darling; he was much more interested in making sure I was tough, capable, and independent.

One of the rst memories I have of my father is of him and 3-year-old me at a park—one with a gi-normous domeshaped set of monkey bars that my older brother scaled with alacrity. Oh, how I wanted to climb those monkey bars and be like him. But I would get scared and descend, crumbling in a heap at the bottom and wailing in frustration. ese unprincess-like hysterics only served to delight my brother, who dangled by his knees at the top, taunting me. Certain that my dad—my hero—would rescue me from my tormentor, I turned my tear-streaked face to him in expectation. No o er of justice was forthcoming—he did o er to give me something to cry about if I didn’t wipe the snot o my face and climb the dang monkey bars.

I called on my dad for another rescue when I was 16 and had a at tire. My knight in shining armor arrived at the scene, only with a lawn chair instead of a white horse. From his throne he barked directions as I changed my own tire. I was most traumatized, however, by the lesson involving the mouse—the mangled one he made me remove from the trap when I was 9 years old. According to his line of thinking, if women expected things like equal pay for equal work, they shouldn’t expect a man to kill the bugs or deal with the dead mice.

ough I didn’t understand my father’s seeming lack of heroics on my behalf, I understand now that he was trying to show me that there were no limitations on what I could achieve as a woman. I owe my independence and success to him for that. But, in some ways, I think my dad was wrong. Even as I have grown in self-su ciency, I’ve come to understand that needing a man and being a strong woman don’t have to be mutually exclusive. I may not need a man in my life, but wanting someone who encourages me to be my best self and brings out the parts of me that I love the most doesn’t mean I’m incapable of being awesome on my own. Except with one caveat: self-su cient awesomeness notwithstanding, I still think a man should have to kill the bugs … and the mice! w

Life takes practice! And though they don’t always come wrapped in a shiny red bow, the lessons we learn along the way are invaluable gifts that are worth sharing. Here are a few noteworthy examples featured in this issue:

LIVE AND ENJOY EACH MOMENT

Our Mind, Body, Spirit column is a must-read this month (PAGE 56) with Dr. Wissam E. Nadra (Lakeshore Pediatric Center) sharing his wisdom on living a more balanced life. With work and family and all the stressors that come with being human, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, and it’s important to proactively acknowledge what causes you stress.

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AN ART FORM

Christine Patterson has been a leader in hospitality and customer service for 17 years and currently leads Parks & Recreation’s Arts & Events Division for the Town of Mooresville. On PAGE 46, Christine outlines five guiding principles to help you master the art of exceptional customer service and leave a lasting impression on your clients.

A HOLISTIC APPROACH

Be sure to check out PAGE 44 where Dr. Robin Owings (ProWellness Family Chiropractic) explains some medical insights when it comes to dealing with sports injuries. While traditional medical treatments such as painkillers and surgery are commonly employed, Dr. Owings explores how athletes are turning to chiropractic care as a holistic alternative for managing sports injuries.

DIY

or Hire

a Pro?

Whether you’re hoping to save some money or you just enjoy a good home improvement project, knowing when you should hire a professional is an important part of the process. It’s essential to have realistic expectations about your capabilities, your timeframe/schedule, and patience level—there can be a lot of trial and error in DIY. If it’s your first time taking on a home improvement project, start small and be honest about your skill level. If you’re not sure if you should hire a professional or not, below are some things to consider:

LKN expert

If you’re planning on selling your home, presentation and first impressions are critical. Upgrades and improvements that are not done professionally can deter buyers. If they see haphazard or “good enough” repairs, they may wonder what else is wrong with the house. According to Remodeling Magazine’s annual “Cost Vs. Value Report,” a professional kitchen and bathroom remodel/update offer the best opportunities to recoup nearly all of your investment.

If you don’t have the correct tools, your costs could end up being more than hiring the pro who has already invested in the appropriate equipment.

CHAD KAHLE | KITCHEN VISION OF THE CAROLINAS, INC.

If your confidence level is not the best and you’re unsure of the task at hand, you may want to consider hiring a professional. Otherwise, it could end up costing you more with unsatisfactory results.

If the danger level is too high or if a mistake would have serious consequences you may want to hire someone who knows the ropes, is licensed, and has the proper permits and safety protocols.

You also tend to get higher quality results. Professionals are often able to complete the work more quickly and efficiently than homeowners.

THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS, YES! Homebrewing has never been easier. As long as you follow the instructions, use the right equipment, and don’t rush the process, you can make an amazing beer at home. Small Kitchen? No Problem!

When it comes to small kitchens, making a compact space feel larger and more functional doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. With a few thoughtful changes, you can transform a tight space into a kitchen you can fully embrace and enjoy using. Our knowledge and experience in architecture, cabinetry, countertops, and construction has allowed us to create kitchens that are not only functional but beautiful and efficient as well. Here are a few ideas and tips we’ve discovered along the way:

Consider the Colors

Seating Solutions

Light-colored backsplash tiles (white, light gray, or soft pastels) can reflect more natural light helping the kitchen feel brighter and more open. Light colors create a sense of airiness and expansiveness.

Let There Be Light

Proper lighting can make all the difference in how a room feels. You can add task lighting such as under-cabinet lights or table lamps to help with small kitchen illumination.

Keeping It Compact

Consider using smaller appliances, especially on countertops. You may find with a smaller kitchen that you don’t need a full-size refrigerator or dishwasher; and when it comes to countertops, less is more! Microwaves, toaster ovens, and the like come in smaller versions, and other items such as blenders or toasters can be stored in cabinets for a cleaner, sleek look.

Clear the Clutter

Like any room, organization is key so purge, toss, and clean out unnecessary items ... how many bowls do you really need!?

Maximize your smaller space with attractive, petite stools with low or no backs. Think about how much legroom you need, how high your counter or bar is, and how many stools can comfortably fit.

An Open, Airy Feel

Options abound for shelving but for a small kitchen, open shelves or glass-door cabinets will make it feel larger.

Get Creative With Storage

Consider a dining nook with built-in benches that have storage. Also, a pegboard comes in handy to free up space—think pots, pans, and even canisters that can hold utensils. It provides flexible storage that can be adjusted over time as your needs change.

So don’t stress about your small kitchen space … these organization tools and tips can make a BIG difference. And with just a few minor adjustments, you can turn even the tiniest of kitchens into a space where you will love to cook and entertain.

CARS ARE MY PASSION:

I have done many things throughout my life, but I have always loved working on cars. I graduated from high school early so that I could take an automotive certification course before starting college. After receiving my B.S. from Bradley University in marketing I began a long, but fun journey to becoming the owner of Auto Glass Experts.

WANDERLUST WAYS:

Zuhair MADANAT

Owner, Auto Glass Experts

LLOTTA LOVE FOR LKN: I was sort of tricked into moving here by my parents. My sister and her husband moved here, and my parents said that they also had a desire to relocate to the Charlotte area, but they wouldn’t leave Illinois unless I came with them. So, I quit my job and moved to North Carolina in November of 2019. I fell in love with it just like so many other transplants and, in 2021, my wife and I got married and bought a house in Huntersville. We have a 1-year-old son named Micah and a baby on the way. We consider ourselves truly blessed, and we are full of gratitude!

My wife and I love to travel, and we are having so much fun traveling with Micah. He has already been to Central America, Europe, and the Middle East. My favorite country to visit, other than Jordan where my family is from (I am a first-generation Arab American), would be the country of Georgia. The combination of its beautiful landscape, delicious food, and extremely kind and welcoming people just can’t be beat.

GROWTH AND GUIDANCE:

I am naturally a positive person, but my faith helps me to have a mindset that, no matter what happens, there is an opportunity for growth and reflection. In the Arab Christian culture, when something bad happens in your life, we often quote the book of Job and say, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.”

Another quote that I reflect on often is this quote from Socrates: “Momento Mori” — Latin for “remember that you will die.” So I try my best not to put anything off and to live wisely in the present moment. Every breath we take is a precious gift.

Cosmetic Dentistry of the Carolinas

A FEW DETAILS

Dr. Nash: When I decided to become a dentist, my experiences with chemicals, resins, and colors gave me a big jump ahead in my understanding of the science and art of the profession. My desire was to be of service to my fellow humans while using my skills to provide a living for my family. I went to dental school at the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1978. I opened my own dental practice in Charlotte in 1980 ... my focus from day one was aesthetics.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

dr. tyler WURMLINGER

TTHE STORY OF US

Dr. Nash: In the realm of dentistry, a unique synergy often emerges when two practitioners of different generations join forces, and that is the story for Dr. Wurmlinger and myself—an older, seasoned dentist skilled and wise with decades of experience collaborates seamlessly with a younger, innovative counterpart who brings new treatment modalities and technology to a long-standing reputable practice.

Dr. Wurmlinger: I have the utmost respect for Dr. Nash and look up to him in so many ways. Although generations apart, we are similar in our passions and intentions—always striving to do what is best for our patients. I am so grateful for his influence in both my professional and personal life.

Dr. Nash: I was in the ROTC in college and had a four-year military commitment but there was a delay in the entry date, so I was able to gain some valuable work experience in the meantime. I worked with the DuPont chemical company, among others, and I was eventually placed in military reserve status where I served for eight years and finished my service as a captain.

Dr. Wurmlinger: I was an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years. The Navy taught me discipline and teamwork to achieve a common goal. This has been instrumental and is quite vital in running a successful practice.

I’m incredibly proud of my dedication to the Navy and dentistry. I’ve broadened my skillset by taking a lot of continuing education courses, which is so important in today’s world.

Dr. Wurmlinger: After graduating from dental school and practicing dentistry in the Navy, I entered private practice in 2015 where I continued to refine my professional skills with advanced study and treatment in aesthetic dentistry. I knew I wanted to be a cosmetic dentist from a young age. I had a traumatic accident in middle school that significantly affected my confidence. At the time, the dentist who treated me really inspired me to pursue a career in dentistry.

LIKEMINDED MEN WITH LIKEMINDED HEARTS

Dr. Nash: One of the key reasons why Dr. Wurmlinger and I work so effectively together is our complementary strengths and passion for our work. A perfect partnership ensued from the moment Dr. Wurmlinger assumed ownership of Cosmetic Dentistry of the Carolinas. Our exchange of knowledge enriches our practice and elevates the level of care we provide.

Dr. Wurmlinger: What truly sets us apart is our shared philosophy of care in providing exceptional dentistry to our patients. We both prioritize empathy, integrity, and excellence in our approach. Our successful, one-of-a-kind relationship serves as a testament to the power of mentorship, mutual respect, and shared purpose. Our unified commitment forms the bedrock of the practice.

Real Estate Broker/Founding Agent

The Dearing Team/SERHANT North Carolina

HOMETOWN JOY: As unusual as it is these days, I grew up right here in Huntersville. I attended all local schools and then went to Montreat College and UNC Charlotte. My wife Charlene is also a native, growing up in Cornelius. She’s my partner in life and business and we both absolutely love our community. It’s exciting to see it flourish and we are proud to be a part of it. We love seeing the growth, and we constantly find ways to give back. One of our favorite things to do is host an annual Halloween party to raise funds for charities. We partner with local nonprofits like Families Forward, The Pink House, and Show Up Charlotte Volunteering.

AN UNSTOPPABLE TEAM: I took a leap of faith in leaving my corporate career and pursuing real estate. We both did. But I wouldn’t have wanted to take that leap with anyone else. Charlene and I had just gotten married, and we started working the day we came back from our honeymoon. The first four to six months were a wakeup call for us because we quickly realized it’s a tough industry ... people aren’t just going to immediately trust you to help them with the largest purchase they may ever make. That was a defining moment in my life. So, I went from second-guessing everything to focusing on our vision—to become an unstoppable husband-and-wife team.

NEVER STOP GROWING: I’m a big believer in the adage that hard work leads to opportunity. Charlene and I had put in endless hours to establish our team as a prominent force in the area, but we were looking to take that next step. At the same time, we joined Ryan Serhant’s course, “Sell It.” The course pushed us to focus more on our brand and, shortly after, we started getting noticed by industry leaders, including Ryan who is widely considered the number one broker in the world. We made an impactful impression. So much in fact that when it came time for Ryan to bring SERHANT to the Carolinas, he chose us to lead those expansion efforts. It was an incredibly proud moment for us. We now run SERHANT North Carolina and are attracting talented agents from all over. And the company is just getting started! We are currently working on dozens of new projects all up and down the east coast, including our newest development that just launched, Mercedes-Benz Places in Miami— Big Announcement!! Stay tuned for our Netflix show coming out later this year and be sure to follow our real estate journey on Instagram at instagram.com/thedearingteam.

BASEBALL + BEACHES

= BLISS: My favorite pastime is baseball, America’s pastime. I love everything about it. I grew up playing it, watching it, and traveling to different ballparks with my father. I also have family playing professional baseball right now. It’s so exciting watching them compete at the highest level. My wife and I also enjoy traveling. There is nothing better than exploring new places. It’s our outlet from this nonstop, fast-paced work life.

Dr. Ramesh

Physician,

MMY JOURNEY HERE: I am married to the love of my life, and we have two beautiful daughters—Reva, 3, and Sierra who is 1. Born in a small village in Nepal, I moved to Kathmandu for college and was ultimately selected as a government scholar to attend medical school in Bhairahawa. After graduating, I worked as a medical doctor for two years and then moved to the United States to complete my residency in New York at Interfaith Medical Center. I completed my fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center (oncologic emergency) and Baylor College of Medicine (hematology/oncology). I also worked as a hospitalist at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia for two years.

ON BEING A DAD: As a parent, not only do I get to rediscover my childhood, but I find it is an opportunity for growth. I learn as much from them as they do from me ... maybe more! They certainly have shown me a lot about perspective and gratitude, and we love experiencing life’s joys and adventures together. I could not be more grateful.

MAKING DREAMS HAPPEN: Growing up I witnessed my uncle and aunt providing healthcare for our tiny community. Seeing this firsthand really sparked my curiosity about pursuing medicine—their dedication and passion left a lasting impression on me. I knew the odds were stacked against me, but the dream of becoming a physician had already taken root. I found myself drawn to science and the wonders it held. The more I learned, the more my excitement grew, and I knew that this was the path for me.

BLOOM WHERE YOU’RE PLANTED: To say I grew up in a resourcelimited environment is an understatement, but it taught me how to make the most of what I had and move forward despite the many obstacles. I consider myself fortunate to have discovered narrow escapes that paved the way for a brighter future. While I have faced (and overcome) many challenges, it only enhances my faith and resolve.

EACH DAY A NEW START: If life has taught me anything, it’s that each day is a blank canvas ... a chance to start anew with no regrets. I try hard to forgive myself for any mishaps along the way and strive to make choices that serve my best interests and those of my patients and family. Drawing motivation from my humble beginnings, I believe the key to living well is to be honest with yourself and to orchestrate every day so that you can become a better person.

Jonathan: I am forever guided by our Lord’s word, and John 3:16 is a favorite scripture: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Once this finally sunk in, it changed my life. I set the tone every morning with prayer and a workout, so even on “bad” days, I surrender to the Lord and sleep great every night— unless the kids keep me up!

TREASURED PASTIMES

John: I love to golf! I’m a member of the North Stone Country Club in Huntersville, and I try to get out on the greens as much as I can. My wife, Claudia, and I also enjoy boating on the lake, especially at sunset with the entire family aboard. It’s a sacred place for us.

Jonathan: Working out is so important to me, so that is a daily priority. And anytime I can try out new restaurants with family and friends is a huge plus. My wife and I love to travel, too. Some of my favorite places are the British/U.S. Virgin Islands and Park City, Utah.

AJohn: My family started our funeral business in 1845 in Wheeling, West Virginia. We moved to the Lake Norman area in 2011, and I’m so proud to say that the fifth generation of Kepners continues to help families through the most challenging of times.

Jonathan: Growing up in the funeral service industry, I always had it in the back of my mind I would most likely carry on the tradition as a fifth-generation funeral director. I absolutely love working with my family in such a rewarding business. I am also a “Wantrepreneur” which is why I do a lot on the side. I am currently in the process of opening a pizza shop in Davidson (Romeo’s Pizza) that I am very excited about.

INSPIRED WORDS

John:  My relationship with our Lord, family, friends, and the families we serve are so very important. I try to start each day with a prayer and an attitude that I have been given the day to use as I will ... I can waste it or use it for good, so I strive to do something positive every day.

John:  I’m fortunate to have so much love in my life. My wife keeps me grounded, my children keep me grateful, and I am eternally indebted to my parents for modeling respect and empathy. Working in the funeral business has shown me not to let time slip away, and not to take anything for granted. Life goes by in an instant. I want to be able to look back and be proud of my accomplishments and, most importantly, leave a loving memory.

Jonathan: My parents have shaped me in so many different ways. Their unconditional love and support made me the man I am today. As a deeply spiritual person, some of my proudest personal moments are accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior, marrying my wife, and God blessing me with two beautiful children.

EYES OPENED BY SEEING THE WORLD: In 2013, my wife, Rachel, and I participated in a mission trip to India. It was a most eye-opening and touching experience! In 2018, Rachel planned a fabulous trip to France to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We had the time of our lives. We love exploring the beaches of the Carolinas, and we look forward to traveling more in the years to come.

A FAITHFUL FOLLOWER: Any time I find myself feeling down or facing obstacles, I try and remind myself of the things that really matter: my faith in Jesus, Rachel, my son, Jack, and extended family all help keep me motivated in doing my best and pressing forward. I think a good attitude may be the single biggest factor in success in business and in life. We all have issues. Some may have it easier than others. However, how we deal with things—perseverance and our mental strength—is what carriers us through.

AAHHH ... LAKE LIFE: After living in the New York City area for over 17 years, we desired a quality of life that aligned with our family values. As we explored several cities, Charlotte stood out. We thought we would live in South Charlotte to minimize any type of commute but when we discovered Lake Norman, we fell in love with all it had to offer. It was the change of pace we were looking for. We settled in the Peninsula neighborhood of Cornelius and we couldn’t be happier.

A COMPETITOR AT HEART: Baseball was my life growing up, and I even played shortstop at San Francisco State University. Now, I have found even more joy in coaching youth sports. I coach Lake Norman Little League and Lake Norman Pop Warner Giants football team. My other passion is golf — it’s where I unwind, have fun, and stay physically active. I’m a competitor at heart, so I get that competitive itch striving to improve – and the humbling realization that it’s a game I’ll never master.

ENJOY THE JOURNEY: At 45 years old, I don’t have all the answers. So whether you’re having good times or bad, keep the faith, do your best, and things tend to work out. I believe in letting God direct your path. He will give you the desires of your heart if you commit to following him. Don’t let adversity derail your dreams. And also, especially when times are good, remain humble as things can swiftly change.

A DAILY DOSE OF HAPPY: Watching my son excel in sports always makes me smile, but when my wife is happy, I smile the brightest. She is the glue of our family, and my absolute best friend. I am also incredibly grateful for Mike (Mike Griffin/Leavitt Insurance) and the amazing people with whom I work. I have the upmost respect and appreciation for Mike and am grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the company he has built and continue their remarkable legacy.

IINTRODUCTIONS

Dr. Coleman: After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, I earned my doctorate in dental science from the University of Buffalo. I then completed my residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and moved to the Lake Norman area to join my uncle, Dr. Patrick Coleman, at his Cornelius practice.

Dr. Foran: I was born in New York and was raised on Long Island. After attending Loyola College for my bachelor’s degree in biology, I went to Temple University School of Dentistry and then to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for my residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

THANKS, DAD!

Dr. Coleman: My wife, Shelby, and I were college sweethearts and we have three sons: Jack, Patrick, and Cooper. We love North Carolina and enjoy all things outdoors—so Lake Norman is the perfect environment for us. I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, skiing, golfing, and all the kids’ sports!

Dr. Foran: I have two incredible children, Erin and Liam. Megan, my wife, and I met in college when we lived down the hall from each other. I consider myself very blessed and on this Father’s Day 2024, I take stock of all I have and am grateful beyond measure. A perfect day for me is hanging with the family—whether that’s grilling in the backyard, a day at the lake, or a quick trip to the coast.

FULL AND GIVING HEARTS

Dr. Coleman: I have a philanthropic heart and understand the importance of giving back. As such, I participate in numerous community events every year. I am proud and honored to serve the people of Lake Norman and to be a contributing member of this amazing area we call home. It’s important to have the right priorities in life and I feel like I’ve cultivated a pretty good balance. I work hard and play hard with my family … there are so many opportunities to do active things around this area; we are always having an adventure. I think this is the secret to life.

Dr. Foran: When I met wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in D.C., I knew I wanted to be an oral surgeon. I was able to see firsthand the role of oral surgeons in the soldiers’ recovery. One soldier I met (a Medal of Honor recipient) invited me to join him at the White House for the ceremony. It was an honor to meet the President and see one of my patients thriving. The doctorpatient relationship with soldiers is a special one—it’s personal and it’s reciprocal ... I get as much as I give!

Healing and Dealing With Sports Injuries

PARTICIPATION IN SPORTS comes with its fair share of risks, including the potential for injuries. Athletes often push their bodies to the limit, resulting in strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal issues. While traditional medical treatments like painkillers and surgery are commonly employed, many athletes are turning to chiropractic care as a holistic alternative for managing sports injuries.

Chiropractic care focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those a ecting the spine. Chiropractors utilize hands-on spinal manipulation and other manual techniques to align the body's musculoskeletal structure, alleviate pain, and promote healing without the use of medication or surgery. By restoring proper alignment and function to the spine and joints, chiropractic care aims to optimize the body's ability to heal itself.

Athletes are prone to a variety of sportsrelated injuries including tendonitis and joint dysfunction. Chiropractors are trained to assess and treat these injuries, addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying biomechanical imbalances that contribute to them. rough manual adjustments, soft tissue

therapy, and rehabilitative exercises, chiropractors help athletes recover from injuries more quickly and e ectively.

chiropractors can provide guidance on proper biomechanics, stretching techniques, and injury prevention strategies to help athletes stay healthy and injury-free.

One of the key bene ts of chiropractic care for sports injuries is its focus on holistic healing. Rather than simply masking pain with medication, chiropractors work to identify and address the root cause of the injury, whether it's poor posture, muscle imbalance, or misalignment of the spine. By correcting these underlying issues, chiropractic care not only alleviates immediate pain, but it also reduces the risk of future injuries.

In addition to treating existing injuries, chiropractic care plays a crucial role in preventing sports-related injuries. rough regular spinal adjustments and soft tissue therapy, chiropractors help athletes maintain optimal alignment and mobility, reducing the likelihood of overuse injuries and improving overall performance. Furthermore,

Chiropractors often work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide comprehensive care for athletes. By collaborating with primary care physicians, physical therapists, and sports trainers, they can develop customized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each athlete. is integrated approach not only facilitates faster recovery from injuries but also promotes long-term musculoskeletal health and athletic performance.

Chiropractic care o ers athletes a safe, non-invasive approach to managing and preventing sports-related injuries. By addressing the underlying biomechanical imbalances that contribute to injuries, chiropractors help athletes recover more quickly and e ectively while reducing the risk of future injuries. With its collaborative approach and focus on holistic healing, chiropractic care has become an integral part of many athletes’ training regimens, enabling them to perform at their best and stay in the game for years to come.

Your Daily Dose of Iron DID YOU KNOW?

It has been officially calculated that the chance of an average golfer making a hole-in-one is about 12,500 to 1

Tiger Woods was only 8 YEARS OLD when he got his first hole-in-one.

The four major events in professional golf are the British Open, the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. The four events together are called the GRAND SLAM OF GOLF.

The French word “Cadet” means “youngest child” and is where the word “Caddy” comes from.

A golf ball will travel further on hot days because the air is less dense so it takes less velocity to travel.

Only two sports have ever been played while on the moon and one is, you guessed it, golf! The other is the javelin throw.

Collaborative Divorce:

THE LEGAL SIDE OF CONSCIOUS UNCOUPLING

IF YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE HAVE considered separation or divorce, you may have heard the term “conscious uncoupling” in your research. is concept, initially coined by author and licensed marriage and family therapist Katherine Woodward omas in 2009, has gained popularity in recent years thanks in part to celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. ey embraced it during their divorce journey and approach to co-parenting while maintaining awareness, respect, and dignity for all involved.

As a Collaborative Family Law attorney with personal and professional experience with marriage, divorce, and co-parenting, I’ve heard this phrase in many of my initial consultations with clients. Conscious coupling and Collaborative Divorce truly go hand-in-hand. While conscious uncoupling is the concept and mindset, Collaborative Divorce is the legal aspect to help you achieve a mutually bene cial divorce. If you’re considering divorce, here are three reasons why conscious uncoupling with Collaborative Divorce might be appealing for you and your spouse:

YOU WANT A NON-ADVERSARIAL EXPERIENCE: Divorce doesn’t need to be confrontational or destructive. is is a hallmark of conscious uncoupling and Collaborative Divorce makes this possible. During a Collaborative Divorce, you and your spouse commit to maintaining respect and civility toward one another throughout the entire process with the signing of a Participation Agreement. rough this contract, both parties show their commitment to using collaboration and cooperation strategies.

YOU WANT TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY: In North Carolina, Collaborative Divorce is an out-of-court alternative dispute resolution process. Instead of spending time going to court and allowing a judge to make decisions for you, Collaborative Divorce couples work through their marital and legal issues in a neutral environment, saving money on court costs and legal representation.

YOU WANT TO ENSURE HEALTHY COPARENTING: If you and your spouse have children, conscious uncoupling through Collaborative Divorce can set the tone for a healthy co-parenting relationship. While your marriage may be ending, your co-parenting journey is just beginning. In fact, one of the primary goals of Collaborative Divorce is to prioritize the well-being of any children involved. rough open communication and cooperation, parents work together to create a mutually bene cial parenting plan that suits the unique needs of their children.

EMBRACING LIFE

THIS LIFE ON CRAZY PLANET EARTH IS NOT FOR SISSIES ... it challenges us daily, and we mustn’t forget to nurture ourselves. With work and family and all the stressors that come with being human, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and off balance. It’s important to proactively acknowledge what causes you stress, anxiety, or fear so you can also proactively AVOID it. Below are a few reminders that I know will be helpful for all:

Live and Enjoy Each Moment

There are so many good people and great things around us that we often take for granted … take time to be grateful on purpose.

Think Positively

Take Time to Rest

Enjoy Nature

When we think in a positive manner, we encourage “feel good” hormones such as enkephalins and endorphins to flood our bodies—providing us with a sense of happiness, achievement, and relief.

Move!

Movement increases your metabolism and keeps you young and vital.

LKN expert

Resting is underrated yet one of the most essential things we can do for good mental and physical health. Practice doing nothing for 15 to 30 minutes a day to rejuvenate your body and your mind.

Establish a Daily Regimen

Two words: Lake Norman

“Me-Time” Is Crucial

Spoil your body, mind, and spirit from time to time. Surprise yourself and pick up a new hobby.

Give Back

Routines for eating, working, exercise, and sleeping, are extremely beneficial and healthy. And be sure to schedule at least one fun activity per day.

Adopt a new cause that will enrich yourself and others— volunteer for a charity or even start a new one in your area.
