IT’S NATIONAL SAFE TOYS & GIFTS MONTH!
Age-Appropriateness
You should not only keep the child’s age in mind, but their developmental level as well. If shopping for infants and children with special needs, look for things that appeal to the senses (light, soothing sounds, soft textures, etc.) And a handy rule of thumb: If the piece can fit in a toilet paper roll, it is not meant for children under the age of 3.

@amandakatehome THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE and that means gifts and toys are abounding and bouncing around. Since December is National Safe Toys and Gifts Month, we decided to compile a few reminders, suggestions, and other info to help keep your family and friends safe (visit www.safekids.org for more information):
A Closeup Look
Check for sharp points, edges, or pieces that could easily loosen and fall off. Test the durability of the item and avoid toys with ropes, cords, or heating elements. Also, make sure crayons and markers are labeled “nontoxic” and be cautious of small toys with removable magnets as these can cause serious injury or even death if ingested. Like and Share
There’s lots to criticize about social media but it serves an imperative role in sharing your experiences and knowledge about unsafe toys with fellow parents, grandparents, babysitters, etc. You can review products on websites or do your own posts on social media platforms using the hashtag #safetoy.
And the Award Goes To …
Every year, a TOTY (Toy of the Year) Award is presented to the top toys and games. These awards are known as the “Oscars” of the toy industry. Visit www.toyassociation.org. w
