RYAN SPENCE GENERAL MANAGER I hope all of you have been enjoying the summer either here at Lake Nona or elsewhere. I am pleased to share that the Club continues to be busier each and every summer with a combination of new and traditional events that are consistently well attended. In an effort to continually provide new and exciting events and activities, our team has started planning an active calendar for fall with some highlights to include: Stock The Cellar Wine Tasting, Drive-In Movie Family Night, Tapas & Tunes Night, as well as monthly live entertainment outdoors, on the all-new Grill Patio. As we head into the busy fall season, please be reminded that in order for our staff to properly prepare to serve you at the highest level, we ask that you please make advance reservations for all Club events. As I announced last month, we are excited to get several summer capital improvement projects underway this month. The all-new playground is being installed August 7-25 and work will also begin August 21 on the Men’s Grill Patio addition in conjunction with the Grill Room Patio expansion, along with the installation of a new scoreboard and landscaping. As always, we will keep you updated on these projects as they progress. I am pleased to announce that the summer maintenance on the golf course was expertly done by Brandon Richey and his team, whose hard work and precise practices have created not only great summer golf conditions, but have also positioned the course for pristine conditions this upcoming Club tournament season. See you at the Club!

GOLF NEWS GREGOR JAMIESON August is another great month for major championships, beginning with the Ricoh Women's British Open at Kingsbarns Golf Links in Fife, Scotland (August 3 - 6), followed by the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C. (August 10 - 13) and finally, the Solheim Cup at Des Miones Golf and Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa (August 18 - 20). These three terrific tournaments will no doubt produce as much excitement as last month's major championships! As always, we wish our touring professional Members much success and hope to see a trophy (or two) returning with them to Lake Nona! It is hard to believe that the year is progressing so quickly, and although it would seem early to mention this, please mark your calendars for the annual Autumn Classic (November 16 - 19). Invitations will be emailed in the coming months, well in advance of the event. If you have not yet set up your online access to the Member-Resident website yet, now would be a good time to do so, as all tournament registration is now done online. If you have any questions or need assistance with this process, please contact the Professional Shop at proshop@lakenona.com or 407.209.1252 and our team will be happy to assist you. As a reminder, the golf course and driving range will be closed for scheduled maintenance August 21 - 28. We look forward to seeing you around the Club!

COURSE NEWS BRANDON RICHEY We had a very successful July course maintenance closure and as we head into August, the golf course is healthy and in great condition. The weather has cooperated nicely, allowing us to finish all needed tasks as well as complete a few additional projects. We alleviated some shade issues throughout the course with some much-needed tree work and removal. You will notice a few stumps that have been painted blue which we are allowing to age and dry out for a few weeks and then we will grind them down. We are also nearing completion in raising and leveling all of the greenside irrigation heads, a daunting task that is expertly handled by our Irrigation Tech, Derek Denison. We also applied a new product to some of our lingering weeds around the property. Its mode of action is new to the industry and so are its visible effects. The product shuts down the plant’s ability to produce its energy source, chlorophyll, which then bleaches it white and kills the targeted weed. While there can be a temporary effect on the Bermuda grass, it will recover within two weeks and at this point, we are delighted with the results that we are seeing in controlling the weeds. August will be a very busy month for maintenance as we push hard to finish our remaining summer projects and the final summer closure (August 21 – 28). During this closure, we will once again aerify all surfaces, work on some of our drainage projects, and begin re-working some of our bunkers. We also are scheduled to install some native plant species around the course, particularly in the areas that we’ve been working on throughout summer. Please continue to help our course maintenance efforts by following our turf care tips, keeping your practice divots to a small concentrated area on the range, filling fairway and rough divots, fixing your ball marks and following the cart traffic instructions throughout the course. We look forward to seeing you out on the course!

KELVIN RIVERA TENNIS

NEWS

As the sun sets on another summer season, I want to thank all our avid players for braving the heat and making this another active summer of fun at the Bath & Racquet Club. Players of all ages and abilities have been eager to play and to improve their game with clinics, private lessons and junior tennis camps and I look forward to continue working with you this fall. As we begin to gear up for the fall season, our successful QuickStart junior tennis program (ages 10 and under) continues on Saturday mornings and we are pleased to welcome the return of our adult and junior clinic schedule on Monday, August 14. Whether you’re a regular on the courts or have never played, I encourage you to join us for one of our weekly clinics. For those unfamiliar with QuickStart tennis, this program utilizes age appropriate equipment and court sizes to teach basic skills and principles of the game through eye-hand coordination, drills and fun games. Lastly, in the world of Protessional Tennis, the best players return to New York to compete on the game’s biggest stage, the U.S. Open (August 28 - September 4) and I encourage you to check out the electrifying action! MITCH SADOWSKY

FITNESS TIP

MED BALL CHOPS As we all know, the golf swing is a complex series of events, moving in and out of planes of motion. Hopefully, if everything goes right, we’ll square one up and hit it flush. Oddly enough, even if we don’t move correctly, we could still square one up. And other times, we move perfectly and we end up like Jordan Spieth did at The Open - between a couple of trailers. Being able to control movement in planes of motion is just as important, if not more important, than just simply being able to move well. Mobility without stability can end up causing more problems than simply “not being flexible.” Using patterns like chops and lifts with medicine balls are great for creating stability, explosiveness, and even increasing range of motion. Using your core as a source of stability and anti-rotation will give your body a more stable feeling, allowing you to create more rotation and more force.

HALF-KNEELING MED BALL CHOP Chop your way to a stronger mid-section and better golf swing! • In a half-kneeling position (on one knee, back foot is dorsiflexed- toe pointed to the ground), take a medium-weight medicine ball and raise it with both arms over the shoulder of the knee that is up.

• Slam the ball down as hard as you can, keeping your spine straight and minimizing rotation of the upper body. Do this 10 times and switch knees, then repeat. • These can be done in at the beginning, in the middle or end of your training session or even as a warm-up to your round.

REAL ESTATE CATHY WILLIAMS As the developer-owned real estate team, we are frequently asked questions about the current status of the market and how to make informed real estate decisions. We thought that many of our Lakeviews readers may have similar curiosities, so what better place to answer these really great questions: Q: How has the development in the Lake Nona Region affected the housing market at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club? A: In every way imaginable – our evolving list of significant partners coming to the region has thrust the community into the media spotlight and gained incredible exposure, both nationally and internationally, for the lifestyle and living opportunities that the Club offers. This directly translates to increased, and very well informed, traffic coming directly to our office. The unprecedented growth is shifting the motivation of our Buyers – many needing permanent residency for proximity to their newly relocated businesses. Lake Nona Realty is fortunate to be linked to the developer in a way that allows us to proactively adjust our strategies and tactics to these changes, and provides us inside knowledge of where the next group of Buyers will originate – We’re often assisting these folks in their real estate search long before the press announcements and ground breakings commence. We’re grateful for these opportunities and our ability to help Buyers and Sellers meet and exceed their real estate needs. If you have any questions about the value of your property or interest in any of our incredible listings, please contact us at realty@lakenona.com or 407.851.9091
