Fitness Classes & Services Fitness Tip The Ritz-Carlton Spa Real Estate Community News Looking Ahead

RYAN SPENCE GENERAL MANAGER The New Year is among us, and we at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club are filled with excitement and anticipation of the year ahead. As always, our team is dedicated to continuing to provide memorable experiences for you and your guests with outstanding service and new and exciting events throughout the year, as well as continuing to enhance the Club and its amenities. We appreciate and value you as a Member and we are looking forward to serving you in 2017. We had an exciting holiday season filled with memorable activities and events, all of which had record attendance and we appreciate your support as it continues to increase the social vibrancy of the Club. I encourage you to join us this month for the return of our popular Burger Night, Family Nights, and the all-new Date Night Out, an evening of a la carte dinner and dancing. As we embark on our 2017 Capital Plan, we are beginning with the enhancement of the Bath & Racquet Pool, which will be closed for resurfacing and deck renovation. The deck will be upgraded to now feature pavers for your enjoyment and safety. We anticipate the pool being closed through February and we will notify you as soon as we are able to reopen it. We appreciate your patience as it undergoes this enhancement. On behalf of the entire Lake Nona Golf & Country Club team, I want to thank you for your generosity to the Employee Holiday Fund. The fund serves to express appreciation to our employees, especially during the holiday season, and that goal was certainly accomplished. Thank you! Wishing each of you a healthy and prosperous New Year!

GOLF NEWS GREGOR JAMIESON On behalf of the entire Golf Professional staff, I would like to wish you and your family a very happy New Year, we hope that you will enjoy good health and prosperity in 2017. The Golf Performance Center has now been open for just over a month and if you have not had a chance to visit, we encourage you swing by and explore what the facility has to offer. Jason Bodey, our Master Club Fitter, would be delighted to introduce you to the state-of-the-art True Spec Golf club fitting program now available. The True Spec Golf Quick Connect system allows you the opportunity to demo many brands of clubs and be properly fit for the best product to match your game. Jason’s colleague, Jared Malott is also available and would love to demonstrate the stateof-the-art workshop, teaching bays, putting studio, and retail space. If you follow us on Facebook, you may have also seen that the Golf Performance Center will be featured on upcoming episodes of The Golf Channel’s School of Golf with host and Lake Nona Member, Martin Hall. The facility served as the onsite location for a series of episodes discussing the benefits of club fitting that will air beginning this month and throughout 2017. The annual PGA Merchandise Show returns to Orlando beginning January 23 and we have several events scheduled at the Club that week, therefore, on Monday and Tuesday (January 23 & 24) there will be an 8:00 a.m. shotgun each day for Member and guest play. Each year, the week of the PGA Merchandise Show is one of the busiest weeks of the year for the golf course, as many of our Members are so well connected within the golf industry. During that week, the Club limits the number of guests to three per Member to accommodate as many Members as possible.

COURSE NEWS BRANDON RICHEY After receiving some desperately needed rain and fantastic weather conditions in December, I am pleased to report that the course is starting off 2017 in its strongest agronomic position ever! Going forward, you will notice one day each month that the course is closed for routine maintenance that will include needle tining and light topdressing the greens, along with a few other key chemical and fertilizer applications. Please be aware of these scheduled closed days on the calendar, as some applications cannot have any traffic on them afterwards to avoid damaging the surfaces. January typically brings some of our coldest weather patterns, therefore, I would like to remind all golfing Members to please contact the Professional Shop when temperatures drop below 42°, prior to walking or driving on the grass, as they will be able to inform you when the course, range, and practice areas will open. Thank you for the wonderful attention you are giving to filling divots and fixing ball marks while on the course. Your efforts extend the life, playability and beauty of the course, while also affording the maintenance team additional time to focus our energy on other projects on our task list. Please continue to observe the green arrows and ropes and exit the fairway and rough where indicated. As the weather cools, any worn areas will take much longer (weeks or months) to recover. It is our goal to produce the most pristine course conditions possible and we continue to appreciate your assistance with adhering to these course care reminders. On behalf of the maintenance team, we wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2017 and as always, we look forward to seeing you out on the course.

FITNESS TIP MITCH SADOWSKY THE WINDMILL This month we’re taking on windmills, and I’m not talking about the windmills that make mini golf enthusiasts cringe, but rather the exercise that will increase mobility in your backswing. Windmill exercises also strengthen the position of the hip hinge, which is crucial to your set up, as well upperlower body separation, which is crucial to achieving more rotation, developing more speed and power. (Figures 1 - 3) To set up, start with a PVC pipe or wooden bar across your back, on the area below your neck that fits a bar quite nicely. Take a small step forward with one foot, so that your heel either matches up or is slightly ahead of your rear foot. Hinge your hips back, keeping your rear leg straight. You may slightly bend your knee on your front leg, but make sure to keep pressure on the rear foot (imagine your front foot is standing on a carton of eggs). Once hinged, if your right foot is forward, rotate your T-Spine so that your right elbow tucks in against your right knee and you are looking at the ceiling. Repeat this three times on each side. Be sure to hinge first, then rotate through your T-Spine, rather than twisting your lower back as you lower. (Figures 4 & 5) A common trouble spot is commonly feeling the hinge position. One regression is to slightly elevate the front foot on a block. As you hinge, push back into the rear hip/glute to “feel” your hamstrings and pretend your stepping on a carton of eggs with your front foot. Another common trouble spot is a tight or sticky T-Spine that doesn’t want to rotate yet. Once down into a hinged, rotated position, your goal is to tuck the elbow into the knee. If it doesn’t ease into the position, repeat this process a few more times and get a bit farther each time without forcing it in to position. Move well, then move often!

RESIDENTIAL MAINTENANCE Lake Nona Golf & Counry Club is a vibrant community with an abundance of natural splendor. In order to protect this desirable community attribute,

SECURITY GATEHOUSE: 407.855.9549 CELL PHONE: 407.907.5331 GATEHOUSE@LAKENONA.COM

we ask residents to help keep Lake Nona beautiful by evaluating your property for residential maintenance. Now that your holiday decorations have been removed, please take a moment to inspect the exterior of your home, specially your roof. As we get less rain this time of the year, your roof’s condition is more noticeable and a roof cleaning is a great way to refresh the appearance of your residence.

Built-up mold and dirt can damage roof tiles over time and can lead to more serious problems, such as leaks. It is each owner’s responsibility to be proactive on maintaining the exterior of their homes and we truly
