The 9-kilometre waterfront stretch between Eleebana and Booragul is one of Lake Macquarie’s best experiences on foot or by bike. With magnificent water views, and popular attractions like the Creative Lake Sculpture Trail and Red Bluff Boardwalk.

KEN & AUDREY OWENS WALKWAY

A 2.4 kilometer return walk at Redhead that winds through a precious ecological area of restored bushland, freshwater wetlands and swamp forest where birds abound.

CAVES BEACH COASTAL WALK

The best walk in the Wallarah National Park connecting Caves Beach to the headland of South Pinny beach. Great sea views, wildflowers and whales.

Slip on your riding gloves for a thrilling ride through open forests and woodlands with access to Burwood Beach, Leichhardt’s lookout and waterfalls.

YUELARBAH WALKING TRACK

One of the highlights of Glenrock State Conservation Area. This scenic track leads you along Flaggy Creek, through wet gullies, coastal rainforest and waterfalls before finishing at Glenrock Beach.

GREEN POINT FORESHORE RESERVE

This beautiful reserve connecting Belmont to Valentine offers stunning water views, picnic areas and a selection of easy to challenging walks.

Beaches

Sun, surf and sand are found in abundance in Lake Macquarie, with 32km of coastline begging for barefoot adventure. Whether your perfect day out at the beach involves walks through the sand dunes, exploring hidden sea caves that magically appear at low tide, or secret bays only accessible on foot, Lake Macquarie dishes up every kind of beach holiday in (buckets and) spades. Beaches range from uncrowded surf breaks to softer, more welcoming waves for little beachgoers.

CATHERINE HILL BAY

‘Catho’, as locals call it, offers the best of both worlds – quality surfing at the northern end and patrolled swimming at the southern end.

The famous caves and nearby rock pool at Caves beach are a favourite with kids and photographers. Located at the southern end of the beach, they are only accessible at low tide.

DUDLEY BEACH

A secluded coastal gem featuring shallow rock pools and a long, sandy expanse. It offers powerful surf breaks for experienced surfers. Non-patrolled.

REDHEAD BEACH

Located in Lake Macquarie’s north, Redhead is popular with families, dog owners and surfers. Known for its iconic wooden shark tower and red rocky headland.

NINE MILE BEACH

A 4 kilometer sandy stretch perfect for fishing and surfing. Is accessible for four-wheel driving and horse riding (permit required). Non-patrolled.

Let us introduce you to these lake swim spots which are perfect alternatives to a day out at the beach.

BELMONT BATHS

This netted enclosure provides flatwater swimming conditions with ample room to bring your inflatable collection. An accessibility ramp means the baths are suitable for wheelchairs too.

NARU BEACH

Hidden at the end of Naru Street at Marks Point, this pictureperfect paradise could rival something from a postcard with turquoise water juxtaposed against the bright white sand.

PELICAN FORESHORE RESERVE

Delivers the perfect family day with a fenced playground, picnic tables, BBQs, amenities block and a sandy shoreline. Close to the Swansea Channel, be aware that there is a current and supervise children carefully.

TORONTO BATHS

Recently revamped, this netted enclosure on the western side of the lake, includes accessible access, jetty and flatwater swimming along the foreshore.

GRANNIES POOL

Cool off where the water is always calm. This tidal pool includes a 50m accessibility path to provide easier access for prams and wheelchairs. BYO shade & snacks and make a day of it.

SALT BAY

This shallow beach on Swansea Channel is accessed off Lambton Parade in Swansea Heads. With plenty of space, it’s great for the littlies or learning stand-up paddleboarding.

For unparalleled lake views, take your dog to the off-leash area at Booragul Foreshore Reserve. From the car park, you’ll find it near Booragul Jetty south all the way along the lake’s edge to Marmong Street, adjacent to the MAC yapang Sculpture Park.
