JOINT LETTER FROM THE LAKE LAND COLLEGE

Foundation President & Executive Director DEAR FAITHFUL SUPPORTERS, To reflect on this past year, we are left with so many emotions but the largest being gratitude and pride. The last year was definitely one for the history books in a variety of ways! The Lake Land College Foundation turned 50 last September and the following month, the College Advancement team moved into the brand new Foundation and Alumni Center thanks to the generous support of the Neal Charitable Lead Trust. With plans to celebrate big with an open house amongst other festivities, we pivoted and went virtual along with the rest of the world due to the ongoing pandemic.

We cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support, engagement and patience this past year as we navigated the changes. The one constant has been your support and its incredible impact! Even without being able to have our annual golf classic in 2020, your support remained strong as we still raised more than $25,000. The Foundation was fortunate to finish the year financially solid with raising just shy of $1 million in donations during FY21, and is thrilled to share the Foundation endowment broke the $12 million dollar mark for the first time! The 355-acre Kramer Borgic Farm owned by the Foundation also had its first farm distribution that will assist in an additional $65,000 in scholarships going forward.

Thankfully, 2020-2021 was not an entirely remote year! Alumni were welcomed into One Laker Nation in May with the first-ever campus Graduation Parade where the Alumni Association greeted them with a banner and duck calls!

We are forever grateful for your commitment to make a difference in our students by supporting their educational goals that will affect the rest of their lives. With your continued investments, the college and Foundation will continue to make huge impacts on the lives of those we serve. During FY21, we awarded 491 scholarships totaling more than $483,000 to students. As we come out of the pandemic even stronger than before, we look forward to seeing you on campus and visiting with you in the near future!

A LETTER FROM THE

Lake Land College President DEAR FRIENDS, When I reflect on the past year, I am incredibly proud of Lake Land College. Our community is made up of individuals just like you who are generous with their gifts, time and talents and are dedicated to uplifting our students. While the Foundation was breaking records, College faculty and staff were excelling in enhancing campus and creating new opportunities for students.

Visitors to campus are greeted with new wayfinding signage and a changing landscape that includes the new Foundation and Alumni Center, the new Workforce Development Center and the installation of lights along the beautiful walkway linking Podestá Park to the Veterans Memorial.

In April, the Laker Women’s Basketball Team made college history by winning the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Thank you to those who joined us in celebrating with the team and Coach Dave Johnson who was named the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

Throughout the year, faculty upgraded and introduced new programs to align skills training and meet demands of our workforce partners. Newly introduced programs include Court Reporting, Fire Science Management and a Medical Assistant degree completion program. In addition, the college continued to work with the Effingham Regional Career Academy and the Mattoon Community Unit 2 School District’s LIFT, a regional innovation center, to provide high-demand skills training.

As we have all learned in the past year and a half, success is often dependent on a well-balanced life. Knowing this, the college focused on developing comprehensive services for students, including the introduction of mental health resources, free laptop rentals and the continuation of services through the Laker Food Pantry.

With your assistance and financial support of scholarships and College programs, we are able to help so many students achieve their dreams of a college education. We look forward to the time we can express our gratitude and celebrate these accomplishments with you! Supporting Students A DECADE OF

A PARTNERSHIP that began in 2012 continues

to create new opportunities for Lake Land College students.

Farm Credit Illinois approached Lake Land College nearly 10 years ago about creating a Lake Land College Agriculture Division Endowment as well as annual scholarship commitments for agriculture students and other financial contributions.

Farm Credit Illinois also established the Farm Credit Illinois Training Center in the West Building in 2013.

With several Lake Land College alumni pursuing careers with Farm Credit Illinois, it is clear that the organization’s Laker support continues even beyond graduation.

“Farm Credit provides a great knowledge base and is clearly invested in the students’ success,” Orrick said.

“Our students have always had nothing but great things to say about their support.”

“Radio is a very local thing,” Remlinger said. “It lets me get involved in the community a lot, which I really like. At Lake Land, the instructors get to know the students because of the small class sizes, so I can get the hands-on, on-air experience I’ll need in my career.”

In addition to being involved with the Lake Land College radio station WLKL, Remlinger has taken part in several groups and activities on campus.

Remlinger said the affordability and availability of scholarships, in addition to the locality of the school, were some of the reasons he chose to attend Lake Land.

MICHAEL BOHANNON

2020 CRYSTAL SWAN RECIPIENT

The 2020 Crystal Swan recipient, Michael Bohannon from Charleston, is a Lake Land College alumnus. Bohannon has served two terms as a board member, and served as president from 2017-2019 as well as serving on several committees. The Crystal Swan award was created in 1993 to recognize Foundation Board members who have gone above and beyond in their leadership and service to the Foundation during their tenure.

2020 OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISER

This year’s recipient, Ann Bacon from Charleston, served the Foundation board from 1999 to 2011, including time as vice president and president.

During her time as president, the Foundation saw unprecedented record fundraising revenues. Bacon was the 2001 Crystal Swan recipient, and she and husband, Terry, have 14 consecutive years of giving to the Foundation.

The Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award is bestowed upon an individual who has given time and talent on behalf of Lake Land College students in securing private funding.

BOB & JOYCE ADCOCK 2020 OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIST

This year’s recipients of the Outstanding Philanthropist Award, Bob and Joyce Adcock from Assumption, created an endowed scholarship in agriculture to help students like their own children and grandchildren, who graduated from the Lake Land College agriculture program. The Outstanding Philanthropist award is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated dedication to Lake Land College students’ educational experience by providing sustaining financial support through lifetime contributions, pledges or planned gifts and service to the college and the community.

JOHN DEERE & CO. 2020 OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATION

This year, the Foundation recognized John Deere and Co. as the 2020 Outstanding Philanthropy Organization.

John Deere has supported scholarships, gifts of equipment, a classroom naming, events support, and ultimately their support helped establish the John Deere Tech program at Lake Land College. The Outstanding Philanthropic Organization award is awarded to corporations, small businesses, industry, community organizations and private foundations who have demonstrated commitment to Lake Land College students’ educational experience by providing financial support through a pattern of reoccurring gifts and pledges.
