Sixties Cabin Cruiser 1960 Sandusky Blue Water 16.

Our 1960 Sandusky Blue Water 16 underwent a total restoration 10 years ago. It’s powered by twin 1960 Merc 400s. During the motors’ restoration, we totally rebuilt the power heads. This is a very comfortable boat while underway, and the twins give it great performance and sound.

The Sandusky Blue Water model is known for its outboard power with cruiser comfort. The small trunk cabin provides an all-weather comfort shelter and features a ventilating forward window. Colorful foam rubber vinyl-covered berth pads and an upholstered pilot seat are standard equipment, as is the mahogany frame fl ying bridge windshield. This model is fully fl oored, including areas under the berths, to provide exceptional storage in a boat of this size.

On the most recent trip to Michigan, while we were cruising the Chain of Lakes on our wooden boat, we dined on shrimp and beer. My wife, Betty, and I agree that the most fun part of owning this vintage molded birch boat is the accolades we receive from admiring people no matter if we are trailering it, at a wooden boat show, or on the water. We limit the amount of trailering miles we subject the boat to in order to control the wear and tear on the wooden structure; molded boats are extremely diffi cult to repair should a hole get punched in the bottom. ★ — John & Betty Scheurer, Mansfi eld, OH
