2026 LGDT Season Program DIGITAL

Page 1

I am absolutely thrilled to welcome you to our 59th season, which we are affectionately calling our “Season of Nostalgia.” As a kid growing up, my parents and older brothers exposed me to the entertainment they loved. My earliest influences were “Abbott & Costello,” “The Honeymooners” and “The Marx Brothers.” I have always had an affinity for, not just the comedy of the past, but also the music. This season of shows reflects that. It was a joy to put together and a labor of love to rehearse and produce. “The Marvelous Wonderettes” is filled with songs that I have been singing my entire life (you probably have too). The slapstick and chaos of “The 39 Steps” harkens back to the days of vaudeville and burlesque. Both shows are a gleeful and affectionate blast from the past and take us back to the comfort and charm of laughing and singing and sharing that revelry with friends and loved ones.

Nostalgia is a shared experience and one to be thankful for. It is a way of keeping the past alive and passing it along from one generation to the next. Lake George Dinner Theatre is filled with nostalgia. David and Vicky Eastwood started this company in 1968, and I never tire of hearing warm-hearted remembrances from Vicky or Bruce Jordan or Terry Rabine. I am indebted to them and want to thank them all the other fabulous theatre artists who kept LGDT going for all these years.

And speaking of thanks, please allow me to express my sincere gratitude to a few other folks. The staff and management of The Holiday Inn are true partners and we are forever grateful. Thanks to all the incredibly talented designers, technicians, and stage managers I am fortunate enough to work with. To our tireless Board of Directors who keep the lights on and all the plates in the air. And finally, our Managing Director Sara Friedman. No one could ask for a better colleague or a better friend than Sara.

Finally, big thanks to you, our audience. You are the reason we all do what we do, and I know that LGDT is a place of nostalgia for many of you. I hope this season’s exuberant and heart-warming stroll down memory lane creates more memories for you to look back on with a smile. Thank you and enjoy…

For nearly six decades, Lake George Dinner Theatre has welcomed audiences to one of the most beautiful places in America. Since 1968, we’ve believed that great theater belongs here - not simply because Lake George is a wonderful destination, but because it has long been a place that inspires creativity.

Artists, writers, and visionaries have found inspiration along these shores for generations. James Fenimore Cooper drew upon the beauty and history of the region while writing The Last of the Mohicans. Georgia O’Keeffe found artistic renewal in the Adirondacks. Thomas Jefferson famously wrote that Lake George is “without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw.” There is something timeless about this place that invites us to pause, reflect, imagine, and create.

Each summer, that tradition continues as professional actors, directors, designers, musicians, and technicians travel from near and far to call Lake George home while they create theatre for our community. They arrive as artists, but they also become part of the fabric of our region, finding the same inspiration that has drawn creative minds here for centuries.

This season celebrates the joy of live performance with two wonderfully entertaining productions. The Marvelous Wonderettes brings infectious music, laughter, and nostalgia to the stage, while The 39 Steps transforms Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller into a whirlwind theatrical comedy filled with clever surprises and boundless imagination. Whether you’re joining us from just down the road or from hundreds of miles away, we hope these performances leave you smiling, laughing, and perhaps even a little inspired.

Professional theater doesn’t happen by accident. It exists because audiences choose to support it. As a nonprofit organization, Lake George Dinner Theatre relies on the generosity of patrons who believe that the arts enrich our community, strengthen our region, and create experiences that stay with us long after the curtain falls.

If you believe, as we do, that professional theatre belongs in this remarkable place, I invite you to support Lake George Dinner Theatre with a charitable contribution. Your generosity helps ensure that artists and audiences will continue to find inspiration here for years to come.

Thank you for being part of our story. Enjoy the show!

OUR HISTORY

This theater company began as a collaboration between David Eastwood and Bruce Jordan who met in The Glens Falls Operetta Club’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 1967.

They loved the experience and felt that the area needed live theater opportunities in the summer months. Hence in 1968, they rented the GF High School for two weekends and produced Barefoot in the Park. The first weekend only a few people attended….but the second weekend brought in enough money to ‘break even’.

The next summer they moved to the Towers Hall, a carriage barn for the Fort William Henry Hotel. It was a BIG empty space so they located and purchased 400 seats from a movie theater in Vermont, not realizing that all of the seats had been on a raked floor and needed to be modified for a flat floor. Neil Akins along with Jane and David Otoupal were our biggest helpers back then. With their support, plus high school students Scott Clugstone and Terry Rabine, the seats were installed just in time for our second show, The Star Spangled Girl.

They remained at Towers Hall for 8 summers - presenting three shows a year, children’s theatre, and a cabaret at the Fort William Henry lounge after the shows.

In 1976, Nan Veeder, owner of the Lake George Holiday Inn Resort, and David joined forces and Lake George Dinner Theatre was born. Two years later, they joined Actor’s Equity Association, the professional theater union. LGDT still has the distinction of being the smallest, most intimate professional dinner theatre in the country.

In1978, Bruce Jordan and Marilyn Abrams created Shear Madness on our stage. That show went on to become an international sensation and the longest running nonmusical play in American theater history, closing in Boston in 2020 due to Covid.

Tragically, in 1991 David was diagnosed with leukemia and, after a year’s struggle, died in June 1992. His wife Vicky took over the reins as Producer, successfully continuing the tradition for another 15 years.

In 2008 Terry Rabine stepped out of his comfort zone as an actor/director and purchased the theater from Vicky. For the next 11 years, Terry led the theater bringing it forward to a Not For Profit and eventually retiring in 2019.

2020-2021 was a shock to the theater world and was, hopefully, the only time we were unable to open a season with ‘dinner and a show’. Thankfully, in 2021, the Wood Theater in Glens Falls offered to co-produce our show, Buyer & Cellar, and we enjoyed a brand new theatrical collaboration.

Now, thanks to the Crocitto family, we are continuing the tradition of “dinner and a show” at the Holiday Inn Resort where we have felt right at home for 50 years.

THE WONDERETTES

Victoria Bost (Cindy Lou) traveled the world with Disney Cruise Line bringing iconic characters to life, including Mary Poppins, Elsa, and Mother Gothel. She then toured the US in South Pacific (u/s Nellie Forbush) and An American in Paris (u/s Milo Davenport). She’s also appeared in your living room on Saturday Night Live and Impractical Jokers. This marks her Lake George debut and the first time she’ll be doing the same show in the same location for more than 48 hours — she is thrilled! @VictoriAnnBost

Olivia Dybas (Suzy), a Glens Falls native, is overjoyed to return to LGDT! She grew up performing all over the region—from Lake George Youtheatre to recent roles in Rent (Maureen) and 9 to 5 (Doralee) with Glens Falls Community Theatre. This summer, she’s thrilled to continue her work as the Sales and Marketing Associate at Adirondack Theatre Festival, where she’s also performed in Traffic & Weather, Mystic Pizza, and more in past seasons. Much like Suzy, Olivia considers bubble gum both a personality trait and a perfectly reasonable coping mechanism. Performing where her love of theatre began is truly a dream come true!

Morgan Smith (Betty Jean) is an Albany local who is thrilled to be making her Lake George Dinner Theater debut! She’s proud to be joining the ranks of green icons like Elphaba and Kermit. Her most recent credits include “Poe” in Edgar in the Red Room (Off-West End), “Grete” in Kafka’s Metamorphosis: the Musical (Edinburgh Fringe), and “Reverend Mother Helen” in Dune: The Dunesical (OffBroadway). She’s beyond grateful to her family, friends and all of the folks at LGDT. Up next she’ll be reprising her role as Poe in London this coming winter! Insta:@smithmorganf

Kimberly Wilpon (Missy) is delighted to be making her LGDT debut with The Marvelous Wonderettes. Kimberly performed OffBroadway in Pip’s Island as Stacy, The Expedition Leader. Favorite Regional credits include I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Woman 1), First Date (Woman 1), SHOUT!: The Mod Musical (Green Girl), Kate Hamill’s Pride & Prejudice (Charlotte Lucas & Mr. Bennet), Some Enchanted Evening (Anna), James in the Giant Peach (Lady Bug), and A Christmas Carol (Mrs Cratchit). Kimberly would love to dedicate this performance to her devoted hubbins, Dolan. @ kimwilpon on all social media platforms. www.kimberlywilpon.com
