Aran-Style Knitted Scarf

Tues. & Wed. 7:00 - 8:30 pm Location GESS Foods Room 119 Instructor Sheila & Doug Gunn

Wednesdays Location Presenter

Getting back to basics and natural ingredients is not just a trend but a lifestyle. Not only should you know and care what you put into your body, but also what you put onto it. Soap making involves an exact combination of oils (coconut, palm & olive) blended with lye, producing a beautiful natural soap without unncessary ingredients. This two-evening course will teach you everything you need to know to make your own luxurious natural soap creations using the Cold Process method. Proper handling of lye and all the safety precautions are covered. While the soap making portion is a demonstration, participants will customize their bars with provided scents, botanicals and extras. The second night you will cut the soap into bars and learn about curing, handling and packaging for gift ideas. All supplies included, and each participant will take home 10 bars of soap and the skill to make their own soap using the Cold Process method. Registration fee is $20, and a $45 supply fee is to be paid to the instructor on the first night of the program.

Choose your own free Aran scarf pattern download from Ravelry. Come to class with the pattern, required yarn and needles. This 3-week class is suited to knitters with some experience as we’ll be learning to knit cables and possibly other twists.

Tap into your natural barefoot state, playing with balance and awareness, and re-energizing many of the body’s systems. This 90 min. workshop is for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge and care for their feet. It’s especially beneficial for those with arch issues, bunions, misguided toes, ankle/foot injuries, hip/back/neck pain, organ malfunction, and bad balance. Bring a stretching/yoga mat, a pillow of any size, and prepare to have bare feet!

This 90 minute workshop will focus on the obvious: Hips, and expand through all that attaches and affects them. From the surrounding leg/glute muscles, core and upper body attachments, and the overall range of motion and functionality of the hip joint itself. We will use movement, activation, opening and elongation to allow the surrounding tissues to soften and lengthen. This is especially great for those with low back and hip pain, beneficial for those who need or have had a hip replacement, and it can also be helpful for neck pain. Bring a massage/tennis ball, foam roller (any size), and a stretching/yoga mat.

Cranial Care

Let go of your busy day and prepare to relax into a restorative evening. We open with a gentle vinyasa flow to drop you into your body as we explore poses accessible to all levels of experience, with the second half of the class easing into longer, deeper stretches. Leave feeling calm and grounded, with a strong connection to self.

In this 90 minute workshop will focus on the head and neck regions learning tricks and techniques to alleviate headaches, sinus congestion, TMJ, neck pain and plenty more. As a Massage Therapist, this is the area I see most commonly causing people pain and discomfort due to tension and blockages, and lacking the tools to do anything about it. Bring your own massage/tennis ball(s) if you like, as well as a stretching/yoga mat.

This learn to play program identifies 4 skill sets required to play tennis successfully. These are called the “I Can” skill sets. Progressive Tennis uses a system of modified courts, racquets and balls scaled to maximize learning for different levels and/or age groups. Just like many other sports, scaling the game down to the size of the child speeds up the learning process and makes the game more fun. All you need to bring is your own racquet, running shoes, & water bottle. Loaner racquets are available if required. Red Ball (Level 1) Introduces the foundational skills of tennis with an oversized low-compression ball on a smaller court. Players learn basic rally, serve and net play skills along with activities that build tennis-specific coordination. Rules of play and food sport behaviours introduced. Orange Ball (Level 2) Played on a 3/4 size court with a low-compression ball. Players learn how to serve, rally, score and lay at the net. Good sport behaviours are reinforced. Green Ball (Level 3) Played on a full-court with a transition ball. Green players may be older children who are new to tennis or players of a good standard who have progressed through Red & Orange stages.
