OUR AUDIENCE, YOUR MARKET Each year, more than 3,000 patrons attend six ground breaking LJSC performances at Mandeville Auditorium. In addition to these concerts, through education and outreach programs, the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus enriches the lives of students and r residents throughout San Diego by offering opportunities to learn music, perform on stage, interact with talented musicians, and attend concert events. The LJS&C also supports emerging talent through its Young Artists Competition and an annual commission for composers of new works.

Young Artists Competition, one of the longest-running competitions of its kind in California, awards talented young musicians from San Diego and Baja California $8,000 in cash prizes and provides valuable performance opportunities for winners.

The Steven Schick Prize for Acts of Musical Imagination, named in honor of LJS&C’s Music Director Emeritus, offers an annual paid commission for an orchestral or choral work to graduate composition students of the University of California, San Diego.

Open Dress Rehearsals are available free of charge to musiclovers of all ages. School teachers and parents of school-age children are particularly encouraged to attend.

Pre-Concert Lectures, are given by the conductor and guest lecturers. They are free to concert-goers and offered one hour prior to concert times.

Outreach Concerts are held in San Diego churches and temples, bringing musicians from the LJS&C and the community.

ABOuT uS OUR LEGACY La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (LJS&C), a UCSD affiliate, performs 6 concert pairs per year in Mandeville Auditorium, as well as community concerts in other venues. It is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit corporation comprised of 230 volunteer musicians from all walks of life: doctors, lawyers, teachers, students, and professional musicians – a diverse and talented group with a passion for making music together. LJS&C sponsors an annual Young Artists Competition, an annual commission of a new work for orchestra and/or chorus, and provides music education to San Diego K-12 schools.

Donations will directly benefit the artistic mission of the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (LJS&C), its 230 community musicians, and its music education and community outreach in San Diego County.
