FUTURO POLÍTICO DEL CONTINENTE AMERICANO EN EL 2022

Inició el 2022, un año con varios cambios políticos para nuestro continente. Tendremos elecciones en Costa Rica, Colombia, Perú, Venezuela, Brasil, México y Estados Unidos.

Costa Rica elige presidente y Congreso al igual que Colombia y Brasil.

México tendrá elecciones a gobernador en Aguascalientes, Durango, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca y Quintana Roo. Venezuela aparentemente tendrá elecciones de alcaldes, aunque el mundo sabe que la dictadura de Maduro solo aparenta una democracia que no es cierta. Su pueblo sigue sumido en la pobreza.

Estados Unidos elige gobernadores y nuevos congresistas.

Existe un estudio denominado Latinobarómetro del año 2021, el cual establece que América Latina es la región con menor credibilidad en las instituciones, se registra 20% menos que en Asia, África, los países árabes y Eurasia. Entre las instituciones que mayor desconfianza generan para los latinoamericanos son el poder judicial (25%), el Congreso (20%) y los partidos políticos (13%).

El mundo está a la expectativa de que vendrá para su futuro, lo que ya muestran los indicadores es la pérdida de fuerza de su moneda frente al dólar estadounidense.

En Estados Unidos el 8 de noviembre se eligiran nuevos senadores y gobernadores de algunos Estados cómo es el caso de Carolina del Sur donde en la línea Demócrata seguramente habrá unas primarias entre el excongresista Joe Cunningham y la Senadora Mia McLeod. El ganador enfrentará al actual gobernador Republicano Henry McMaster. Veremos que otros candidatos salen al ruedo y quien será el futuro gobernador, lo cierto es que la comunidad hispana hoy juega un papel importante en la agenda de los candidatos. La Isla Magazine ha tenido la oportunidad de hablar con Joe Cunningham y la Senadora Mia McLeod, quienes quieren ayudar a la comunidad.

En Georgia el gobernador republicano titular, Brian Kemp, ha anunciado que se presentará para ser reelecto. El 16 de abril de 2021, el ex demócrata convertido en representante estatal republicano Vernon Jones declaró su intención de desafiar a Kemp en las primarias, estaremos pendientes de quienes serán los candidatos.

Lo cierto es que el panorama está agitado este 2022 en materia política, donde se definirá el futuro del continente americano.

THE POLITICAL FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN CONTINENT IN 2022

2022 will begin with several political changes for our continent. We will have elections in Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico and the United States.

The following countries will elect both president and Congress: Costa Rica, Colombia, and Brazil.

Mexico will have elections for governors in the states of Aguascalientes, Durango, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca and Quintana Roo. Venezuela will apparently have mayoral elections, although the world knows that the Maduro dictatorship only has a puppet democracy that is not a true democracy. His people are still mired in poverty.

The United States elects governors and new congressmen.

There is a study called Latinobarometer of the year 2021, which establishes that Latin America is the region with the least credibility in institutions, it is recorded 20% less than in Asia, Africa, Arab countries and Eurasia. Among the institutions that generate the greatest distrust for Latin Americans are the judiciary (25%), Congress (20%) and political parties (13%).

The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened social inequalities in the continent, and these results will mark the future for the development or poverty of these nations.

LA CARTA | THE LETTER Chile, one of the countries with the best economies in the region, took a left turn by electing Gabriel Boric as president at the end of December last year. The world is waiting to see what happens to Chile's future, what the indicators already show is the loss of strength of its currency against the US dollar.

In the United States, on November 8, new senators and governors of some states will be elected, such as South Carolina, where in the Democratic line there will surely be a primary election between former Congressman Joe Cunningham and Senator Mia McLeod. The winner will face current Republican Governor Henry McMaster. We will see the other candidates enter the ring and who will be the future governor. The truth is that the Hispanic community today plays an important role in the candidates' agenda. La Isla Magazine has had the opportunity to speak with Joe Cunningham and Senator Mia McLeod, who want to help the community.

In Georgia incumbent Republican Governor Brian Kemp has announced that he will run for reelection. On April 16, 2021, former Democrat turned Republican State Representative Vernon Jones declared his intention to challenge Kemp in the primaries, we will be watching who the candidates will be.

Conozcamos un poco de su historia y sus motivaciones para apoyar a la Comunidad Hispana.

La Isla Magazine/ Melody para empezar cuéntanos, ¿de dónde eres y hace cuánto llegaste a Estados Unidos?

Melody. R/ Soy orgullosamente venezolana, de las montañas andinas de Mérida. Hace 26 años llegué a Savannah a vivir a un pequeño aparta estudio mientras era estudiante de la Universidad de Armstrong.

La Isla Magazine/ Sabemos que además de estudiar también trabajaste en la Universidad de Armstrong, ¿puedes contarnos sobre tu experiencia allí?

quienes no sepan) trabajé durante 15 años en la Universidad de Armstrong, que ahora es la Georgia Southern University, prestando el servicio como administradora de la Universidad. Allí hice gran variedad de cosas: fundé el programa Hola y el programa Camino, dónde se le dio becas a muchos estudiantes. El último proyecto en el que estuve, involucró a diferentes socios y líderes de la comunidad, con el objetivo de lanzar un programa que permitiera graduar a muchas más personas con títulos universitarios, no solamente de origen latino sino en general. El programa se llamó Savannah Graduates y gracias a este hemos alcanzado un nivel de educación más alto en la ciudad. Es muy lindo ver el crecimiento que estamos teniendo cómo ciudad y el orgullo como latinos, porque nosotros también formamos parte de este crecimiento de talento para construir más líderes en este país.

Melody. R/ Después de mi trabajo en la Universidad comencé una carrera junto a mi familia para abrir restaurantes, creando los planes de negocios. Estas experiencias me han llevado a pensar estratégicamente cómo hacer realidad un proyecto, permitiendo que la pasión, la excelencia y la competencia sean los valores que me guían en este punto de mi vida profesional. Armstrong fue mi primer acto, los restaurantes fueron mi segundo acto y ahora estoy empezando el tercer acto de mi vida.

TU HISTORIA | YOUR STORY This month we had the opportunity to interview Melody Rodríguez, who has built an important business career in the United States. Let's learn a little about her history and her motivations to support the Hispanic Community.

La Isla Magazine/ Melody to begin, tell us, where are you from and how long ago did you come to the United States?

Melody. R / Well, I am proudly Venezuelan, from the Andean mountains of Mérida.

26 years ago I came to Savannah to live in a small studio apartment while I was a student at Armstrong University.

La Isla Magazine. We know that in addition to studying you also worked at Armstrong University, can you tell us about your experience there?

Melody. A / As many of you know (and for those who do not know) I worked for 15 years at Armstrong University, which is now Georgia Southern University, serving as administrator of the University. I did a great variety of things there: I founded the Hola program and the Camino program, where many students were given scholarships.

The last project I was involved with different partners and community leaders, with the aim of launching a program that would allow many more people to graduate with university degrees, not only of Latino origin but in general. This program was called Savannah Graduates and thanks to this we have reached a higher level of education in the city. It is very nice to see the growth we are having as a city and also the pride as Latinos, because we are also part of this growth of talent to build more leaders in this country.

Melody. R / After my work at the University I started a career with my family to open restaurants, creating business plans.

These experiences have led me to think strategically how to carry out a project, allowing the passion, excellence and competition are the values that guide me in this point of my professional life. Armstrong was my first act, restaurants were my second act, and now I'm starting the third act of my life.

La Isla Magazine/ Can you tell us what this third act is about?

Melody. R / Yes, this third act is the one that I hope to retire with in the future.

Restaurant project management led me to get involved with renovating spaces and

investing in real estate; Because I have a super passionate heart for interior design, it is something that I did since I was little and I knew that this is a career, a field, an industry with which I not only have a professional affinity but also, there is the opportunity to help Latinos and to diversify the talents that I also have. I know that I can learn new things.

Speaking a bit about this new year, are you the type of person who creates goals for the new year? And if so, could you share with us what they are?

Melody. R / Yes of course. I recently joined an excellent team of real estate agents here in Savannah, the Engel & Völkers company.

This company has three main values within its mission: the value of being competent and effective, the value of having passion, and the value of exclusivity. These values

Especially for me it is very important to make way for the Latino community so that they can obtain their first home in this country and in which they can put down roots, both for themselves and their generations. Hay dos áreas públicas del Parque Nacional del Gran NATIONAL PARK Cañón, los Bordes Norte y Sur. A 7,000 pies sobre el nivel del mar, el borde sur del Gran Cañón es la sección más accesible del parque nacional, con numerosos lugares donde los visitantes pueden detenerse para admirar la vista. El borde norte del Gran Cañón, 1,000 pies más alto que su hermano del sur, no es tan popular porque es más difícil llegar a él, especialmente cuando el duro clima invernal cierra las carreteras de acceso. VICENTE FERNÁNDEZ GÓMEZ DE ALBAÑIL A LLEVAR SU FOL CL OR MEXICANO AL MUNDO

Nació en Guadalajara, el 17 de febrero de 1940, también conocido como el Charro de Huentitán o Chente. Fue albañil, pintor y cantante de varios grupos de Mariachi que lo llevaron a ser un gran cantante de música ranchera. Luego empresario, productor discográfico y hasta un importante actor mexicano.

Su trabajo en la música le dio dos premios Grammy, ocho Grammy Latinos, catorce premios Lo Nuestro y una estrella en el paseo de la fama de Hollywood. En abril del 2010, alcanzó la cifra de 60 millones de copias vendidos en todo el mundo.

En 1954, con 14 años, participó en un concurso amateur en Guadalajara, donde obtuvo el primer lugar y comenzó a cantar en restaurantes, bodas, grupos familiares y de

amigos, mientras alternaba vendiendo comida que hacían en su casa y trabajando en el mundo de la construcción apoyando a su padre.

En 1963, su madre falleció de cáncer, ese mismo año el 27 de diciembre se casó con María del Refugio Abarca Villaseñor conocida como “Chiquita”, a quien conoció en Guadalajara. La pareja tuvo tres hijos: Vicente, Gerardo, Alejandro y adoptaron a Alejandra.

Su hijo, Alejandro Fernandez, juró llevar la memoria musical de su padre.

Vicente Fernandez partió el 12 de diciembre de 2021, dejando un gran legado artístico en este planeta de México para el mundo.

Información obtenida de la Organización Panamericana de Salud (OPS) Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) La depresión es una enfermedad común pero grave que interfiere con la vida diaria, con la capacidad para trabajar, dormir, estudiar, comer y disfrutar de la vida. La depresión es causada por una combinación de factores genéticos, biológicos, ambientales y psicológicos.

Algunas investigaciones indican que el riesgo genético para la depresión es el resultado de la influencia de varios genes que actúan junto con factores ambientales y otros factores de riesgo.

Algunos tipos de depresión tienden a darse en familias. Sin embargo, la depresión también puede ocurrir en personas sin antecedentes familiares de depresión. No todas las personas con enfermedades depresivas experimentan los mismos síntomas. La gravedad, frecuencia y duración de los síntomas varían dependiendo de la persona y su enfermedad en particular.

¿SABÍAS QUE? | DID YOU KNOW? DATOS CLAVE La depresión es una enfermedad que se caracteriza por una tristeza persistente y por la pérdida de interés en las actividades con las que normalmente se disfruta, así como por la incapacidad para llevar a cabo las actividades cotidianas, durante al menos dos semanas.

Las personas con depresión suelen presentar varios de los siguientes síntomas: pérdida de energía; cambios en el apetito; necesidad de dormir más o menos de lo normal; ansiedad; disminución de la concentración; indecisión; inquietud; sentimiento de inutilidad, culpabilidad o desesperanza; y pensamientos de autolesión o suicidio.

La depresión no es un signo de debilidad. Se puede tratar con terapia de conversión, con medicación antidepresiva o con una combinación de ambos métodos.

Las personas expuestas a violencia frecuentemente experimentan una variedad de reacciones que incluye: ansiedad, estrés, frustración, temor, irritabilidad, enojo, dificultad de concentrarse, pérdida del apetito y pesadillas.

QUÉ PUEDE HACER SI PIENSA QUE ESTÁ DEPRIMIDO • Solicite ayuda profesional. Hablar con un profesional sanitario local o con su médico de cabecera es un buen punto de partida.

• Recuerde que puede sentirse mejor si recibe la ayuda adecuada.

• Siga realizando las actividades que le gustaban cuando se encontraba bien.

• No se aísle. Mantenga el contacto con familiares y amigos.

• Haga ejercicio regularmente, aunque se trate de un pequeño paseo.

• Mantenga hábitos regulares de alimentación y sueño.

• Acepte que puede tener depresión y ajuste sus expectativas. Tal vez no pueda llevar a cabo todo lo que solía hacer.

• Evite o limite la ingesta de alcohol y absténgase de consumir drogas ilícitas, ya que estos productos pueden empeorar la depresión.

• Si tiene pensamientos suicidas, pida ayuda a alguien inmediatamente.

CALENTADORES DE PROPANO Y QUEROSENO

Mantenga su chimenea en buenas condiciones, haga que inspeccionen su chimenea para ver si tiene grietas o deterioro. Repare cualquier mortero o ladrillos sueltos.

Mantenga siempre una pantalla de vidrio o metal frente a la abertura de la chimenea.

Nunca sobrecargue la chimenea con demasiados leños y apile los leños en la parte trasera de la chimenea cuando encienda un fuego.

Nunca cierre la compuerta hasta que sepa que el fuego está apagado. Una compuerta cerrada ayudará a que el fuego se caliente nuevamente si hay cenizas calientes y forzará el ingreso de monóxido de carbono tóxico a la casa. ¡Manténgase abrigado y seguro este invierno!

THERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO KEEP WARM THIS WINTER- USE THESE ITEMS SAFELY.

PROPANE & KEROSENE HEATERS

Be sure the heater has an emergency shut off in case the heater tips over.

Make sure the room the heater is in has plenty of ventilation. Burning fuel such as kerosene or propane can produce deadly fumes.

ELECTRIC SPACE HEATERS

Space heaters or portable heaters are economical and easy to use but can be dangerous if you are not careful. They may cause fires, burns, explosions or electric shock. Space heaters should be at least 3 feet from furniture, walls, bedding, etc. and never leave a heater unattended.

Look for a listing by a testing lab to insure certain safety standards.

Look for space heaters that have automatic turn off switches in case the heater gets too hot and that will also turn off the heater if it tips over.

Don’t use your heater as a dryer keep clothing and other combustibles away.

FIREPLACES

Choose the right fuel - hardwood such as oak and hickory burn cleaner than softwood (pine, cedar, etc). Never burn wrapping paper or glossy magazine paper which can cause an explosion.

Keep your fireplace in good condition - have your chimney inspected for cracking or deterioration. Repair any loose mortar or bricks.

Always keep a glass or metal screen in front of the fireplace opening.

Never overload the fireplace with too many logs and stack the logs at the rear of the fireplace when building a fire.

Never close your damper until you know the fire is out. A closed damper will help the fire to heat up again if there are hot ashes and will force toxic carbon monoxide into the house.

Durante el año pasado, el costo promedio del alquiler ha aumentado en casi un 20% en algunas áreas, incluidas Arizona, Florida e Idaho, según un análisis realizado por el Urban Institute.

El alquiler promedio de un apartamento de una habitación en Sarasota, Florida, por ejemplo, fue recientemente de $2,004 al mes, un aumento del 40% en comparación con el año anterior.

Muchos factores están impulsando el aumento de los alquileres, incluida la escasez de inventario de viviendas. Durante la pandemia y la cuarentena, las familias se agruparon, pero a hora están impulsando la demanda de casas. Mientras tanto, los propietarios buscan recuperar algunas pérdidas de la pandemia, cuando algunos dieron alquileres con descuento a los nuevos inquilinos y otros tuvieron personas que no pagaron la renta.

La forma más fácil es mantener los costos de vivienda alrededor de un tercio de su salario neto mensual. Esa regla podría ser menos relevante, o simplemente imposible, para aquellos que enfrentan costos más altos en áreas

metropolitanas.

Recomendamos pensar en el alquiler como parte de su paquete de costo fijo. Si está pagando más en el alquiler pero menos en otros costos fijos, como facturas de servicios públicos o seguro de automóvil, entonces puede presupuestar un alquiler más alto, lo importante es mantener sus gastos de costo fijo a la mitad de su salario neto.

También recomendamos no endeudarse más si se atrasaron en pagos. Para aquellos en extrema necesidad, también recomendamos que los inquilinos pregunten a los propietarios del inmueble, sobre la solicitud de asistencia para el alquiler. Irish Dental is seeking two quality oriented, team player dental assistants for our Hilton Head Island based practice. One year of full time experience in a private dental office is required. Tech school certificate preferred.

Successful candidates must be able to multi-task and do four handed dentistry work efficiently. Must be South Carolina X-ray certified or open to getting certified.

Experience with charting, digital radiography, intraoral photography and Dentrix Ascend is preferred. Assistants will undertake lab tasks as instructed and be able to do basic work and appliances in the lab area, provide pre-operative and post-operative care instructions and keep the dental room clean and well stocked. Assistants will schedule appointments and help at front desk as needed and assist with payment procedures. Successful candidates must be able to physically work standing on feet for up to eight hours per day. Applicants must submit to a drug test and criminal background check upon request. Must be available to commence workday at 700AM and be available on weekends for emergencies. Spanish language skills preferred but not required.
