Richard Baird (Sam Spade) is an award-winning actor, director and producer. Louis Lotorto (Man #2), an award-winning actor, VO artist, fight choreographer, verse/text teacher, and proud member of Actors’ Equity Association for 36 years, is thrilled to make his debut at Laguna Playhouse. He has appeared in several productions at nearby South Coast Repertory Theatre, most notably as Richard Burbage in Shakespeare in Love; Alfie in One Man,Two Guvnors; Venticelli #1 in Amadeus; Osric and others in Hamlet; Leslie in Taking Steps; and most recently as Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol. Shelley Regner (Brigid O’Shaughnessy) is delighted to return to the Laguna Playhouse stage after her debut performance in Honky Tonk Angels last summer! She is most recognized as Bella member, Ashley, in the “Pitch Perfect” franchise and the Mezzo member of Disney DCappella’s debut album and first national tour. Shelley also serves as a Show Choir Judge at various competitions around the country. Daniel A. Stevens (Man #1) Dan is delighted to be joining the team at Laguna Playhouse for the first time. Dan has had the privilege of working with The American Shakespeare Center, West Virginia Public Theatre, The Liberty Theatre Company, Boston Court Theatre, The Texas Shakespeare Festival, and International City Theater. Dan is a director, actor, and company member of Public Assembly. Dan is also the co-host and creator of “The Actors Bookshelf”, available wherever you listen to podcasts. Liam Sullivan (Foley Artist) – Liam is excited to join Laguna Playhouse and The Maltese Falcon as the foley artist. A San Diego native, he has worked in the local theatre scene there for many years. He is currently working as the Associate Production Manager at North Coast Rep in Solana Beach. He is pursuing his Master’s Degree online through CSU Northridge. Much love to his fiancé Jonah who supports him in all his endeavors
Matthew Salazar-Thompson (Playwright) is a San Diego based playwright and has been commissioned by The San Diego Repertory Theatre (Star Crossed), North Coast Repertory Theatre (Mistletoe, Music & Mayhem!, Ted Williams: A Tip of the Cap, The Little Mermaid - TYA, The Perfectly Preposterous Pirate Adventure - TYA), The Roustabouts Theatre Company (‘hoods), Compass Theatre (Switching Tracks, The 146 Point Flame), Point Loma Playhouse (The Complete History of Theatre {abridged}, A Christmas Carol: The Classic Radio Drama). His play, Who’s Afraid of Me, Myself and Edward Albee? was co-conceived of and mentored by Edward Albee. In 2016 Mr.Thompson collaborated with La Mama Experimental Theatre Group with resident master playwright Mac Wellman in the development of his comedy The Complete History of Theatre {abridged} and the revision of The 146 Point Flame. Switching Tracks was a semi-finalist for the Detroit New Works Festival in 2017 and a Top Five Finalist for the Garry Marshall New Play Festival 2018. Grants include the MiraStar Playwright Award and Direct to Arts Award from the city of Solana Beach. He has written material for Disney, Lionsgate Entertainment, Molyneaux Entertainment and Unity Entertainment. You can find his non-fiction published through Arcadia Publishing. His twenty-plus plays have been published through Dramatic Publishing and Heuer Publishing. His next play About a Mouse, the early exploration of Walt Disney’s most famous character Mickey Mouse, is currently in development. The Maltese Falcon received its world premiere at North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach, California in March 2026. Love to Jesse, Sadie and Beckett.
Todd Nielsen (Director) is excited to be bringing this new and very fun homage to Laguna Playhouse. Currently based in Southern Oregon, he previously resided in Southern California where he worked for years with such theaters as International City Theatre, The Colony Theatre, Glendale Centre Theatre, Musical Theatre West, Cabrillo Music Theatre, Moonlight Stage Productions, San Diego Musical Theatre, Norris Theatre and Welk Resort. He also served as Resident Director for the National Tour of Disney’s The Lion King (Cheetah Company). Todd has garnered multiple awards for his work over a long career having directed over 120 productions. Most recently Desperate Measures and Murder on the Links for International City Theatre in Long Beach and City of Angels for Camelot Theatre in Talent,

Oregon. Other shows include The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Million Dollar Quartet, Catch Me If You Can, A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder, A Little Night Music, Death Takes a Holiday, Elf and Hello, Dolly. As a performer, he most recently appeared as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol for TMTO in Medford, Oregon. Other recent performing work included Little Shop Of Horrors, Disaster, A Christmas Carol, and Sweeney Todd for the Oregon Cabaret Theatre in Ashland.
Marty Burnett (Scenic Designer) Resident Designer at North Coast Rep since 1992. Scenic designed more than 250 productions at the theatre. Resident Designer at Coronado Playhouse 1981-84 and Fiesta Dinner Theater 1984-87. Co-owner Props and Drops 1987-91, Designing for Union Plaza, Hacienda and Sahara Hotels and Casinos, Las Vegas; Harrah’s, South Lake Tahoe and Claridge Hotel, Atlantic City; Drury Lane Theater, Chicago. At Laguna Playhouse designed Chapatti, Alexandros, and transfer designed Beside Myself, A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder, Murder on the Links, The Angel Next Door, Tartuffe, Camelot, and Peril in the Alps from North Coast Rep. Marty has a B.A. from Creighton University, Omaha, NE.
Elisa Benzoni (Costume Designer) is thrilled to be working at the Laguna Playhouse again! She is currently working on her eighth season at North Coast Rep including numerous Craig Noel nominated productions. Elisa has also worked on more than 100 productions across Southern California with theatres such as The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Geffen Playhouse, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Laguna Playhouse, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Diversionary Theatre and New Village Arts. Being Italian born, Elisa has also had the opportunity to work and perfect her craft in Europe. Elisa holds a costume design M.F.A. from UCSD, where she currently is an adjunct professor.
Matthew Novotny (Lighting Designer) is happy to be returning to Laguna Playhouse, designing his 10th production here! Matthew designs over 30 shows a year all over San Diego County and up here at Laguna, while also teaching at places like Cal State San Marcos, Palomar College and SDSU. He is also the Resident Lighting Designer for North Coast Rep. Laguna Credits include Murder on the Links, Peril in the Alps, 2 Pianos 4 Hands, Remarkable Mr. Holmes, Eleanor, and Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, just to name a few. Matthew has a BA in Technical Theatre from SDSU, and a Masters in Lighting Design from Boston University. He is married to his amazing and beautiful wife Amanda, with whom he has 5 (yes 5!) kids; Ragan, Harper, Heston, Maddex and Harrison.
Ian Scot (Sound Designer) is a sound designer, composer, and projection designer based in NYC. His work spans theatre, opera, dance, and installation, with credits including productions with Playwrights Horizons, Minetta Lane, Roundabout Underground, Signature Theatre, Tuacahn Amphitheatre, The TENT, Heartbeat Opera, Yale Rep, Laguna Playhouse, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Dorset Theatre Festival, Actors Shakespeare Project, and Ars Nova, among others. Matt Fitzgerald (Projection Designer) has been Production Manager at North Coast Rep since 2022. Previous credits include: Projection Design (Intimate Apparel), Sound Design (Camelot, Blues in the Night), Prop Design (Tartuffe), and Assistant Stage Manager (The Cherry Orchard). Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University.
Rai Feltmann (Props Designer) is delighted to prop their second show at North Coast Rep and the Laguna Playhouse. Previously, they worked on Peril in the Alps. They have also designed props for Moxie Theatre in San Diego for Clydes, Man and Moon, and Cry It Out among other productions. They currently work at the La Jolla Playhouse as Lead Props Artisan. Some recent shows include: Working Girl, Indian Princesses, The Heart, and many more.
Peter Herman (Hair & Wig Designer) has previously designed wigs for more than 30 Laguna Playhouse productions. Peter teaches wig and makeup design at San Diego State University. He is glad to be part of the creative team on this show.
Scott Paulson (Foley Designer) has a loyal following as an on-stage sound effects artist for silent film screenings, radio drama reenactments, experimental story-telling, Nancy Drew Conventions and Tom Swift Conventions. He travelled to Paris to provide music & sounds for a Josephine Baker silent classic at the Black France Film Festival, and to New York City for a Fringe Fest radio drama premiere. Scott is an alumnus of UC San Diego and continues to work as their University Carillonneur, premiering new works and taking song requests for the clock-chimes atop Geisel Library.

Adele Adkins (Managing Director) is an arts leader with over 25 years of experience in nonprofit theater management and programming. She most recently served as Managing Director of Bucks County Playhouse, where she expanded revenue, increased subscriber growth, and spearheaded key initiatives in equity, accessibility, and community engagement. She has booked performances across the full spectrum of venues—from intimate 100-seat theaters to 7,000-seat arenas—presenting everything from classical music and Broadway tours to major country music stars and a wide range of genres in between. Adele has also led the Clark State Performing Arts Center in Ohio and the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine. Her early career includes leadership roles at the Collins Center for the Arts and the Maine Center for the Arts. A Juilliard-trained cellist, she brings a lifelong dedication to performance, education, and cultural leadership. Adele is a sought-after consultant for performing arts centers and theaters, known for her expertise in strategic planning and innovative revenue growth strategies.
