Welcome to Laguna Playhouse!
It is our pleasure to welcome back the Lythgoe Holiday Panto with a world premiere production of Rapunzel and her Holiday Wish! What better way to celebrate the season than with a theatre full of families laughing and enjoying the magic of theatre together. We are so glad you have joined us.
Each year it is among my favorite pastimes to stand in the lobby as the theatre empties following a Panto performance, and to watch the delight and excitement on the faces of the kids as they emerge. It is a highlight experience that they will never forget; a bright spot of joy to carry with them.
As we all sit and experience theatre together, we create a shared bond that crosses political, economic and racial boundaries. We create community that we can all share together.
On behalf of everyone at Laguna Playhouse, we wish you a joyful and peaceful Holiday Season.
Warmest regards,

OPENING NIGHT DECEMBER 8, 2024 • MOULTON THEATRE, LAGUNA BEACH
British Pantomime, or “Panto,” is a unique and beloved form of theatrical entertainment that dates back centuries, combining elements of comedy, fairy tales, and interactive performance. Originating in the 16th and 17th centuries, Panto evolved from Italian commedia dell’arte, a comedic form that involved stock characters, slapstick humor, and improvisation. By the 19th century, Panto had further developed its own unique structure and character archetypes, becoming an essential part of British holiday festivities, especially around Christmas.
Over the years, Panto has become a holiday staple in the UK, especially during the Christmas season. Some British actors consider Panto performances a cherished career opportunity, bringing fresh audiences to the theater and keeping the tradition alive. Unlike typical theater, which often keeps audiences as passive observers, Panto is highly interactive. Traditional theater also usually aims for a more realistic or immersive experience, whereas Panto is unabashedly fantastical, with actors openly playing to the crowd.
At Laguna Playhouse, a holiday Panto has become a huge part of our own holiday tradition as well. Rapunzel and her Holiday Wish is the ninth Lythgoe holiday Panto to be featured on this stage, and the tradition has become a much awaited event for our patrons. Families return year after year to celebrate the holiday season with us, and to experience the incredible magic of a holiday Panto.
We hope after seeing the show today, you will be inspired to make it a tradition for your family, too.
Happy holidays!

Laguna Playhouse is proud to offer youth acting and theatre classes in conjunction with our Youth Theatre productions. Acting classes at the Laguna Playhouse nurture students ages 4-19 in learning professional skills that will guide them to success in theatre and life.
In Conservatory, students ages 9 to 19 learn important acting techniques and methods that are later utilized in full-scale youth productions. With six levels, the conservatory program is for passionate individuals who have a desire to learn professional skills, have fun, and explore their creative voices with other committed students. We are thrilled to also be offering Junior Conservatory Classes for students ages 4 to 9 on Saturday mornings. Our winter conservatory session begins the week of January 9th.
We are also excited to offer acting and theatre workshops for youth. Our next workshop is a tap workshop, taught by Gary Roberts, on December 9th and 10th. For more information on our workshops or our conservatory program, visit our website.
We are excited to announce our spring Youth Theatre production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, performing April 4th through 6th.
Auditions will be held January 24th - for more information on auditions, contact jalanes@lagunaplayhouse.com
VISIT LAGUNAPLAYHOUSE.COM/EDUCATION-COMMUNITY-ENGAGEMENT for more information on Conservatory Classes, Young Adult Workshops and more!
Laguna Playhouse gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Dana Klein and Jay Herron who have established the Jessica Herron Memorial Scholarship Fund in loving memory of their daughter, a former student of the Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre. This designated gift to the theatre’s permanent Endowment will help provide scholarship assistance to talented young people seeking to expand their knowledge and skills though our youth conservatory. This holiday season, we invite you to join us in the spirit of giving by supporting our Fund-A-Need Campaign. Your donation will help address specific artistic needs, ensuring that the Playhouse continues to produce exceptional theatre and nurture the next generation through enhanced community outreach and educational programs.
During this festive time, we hope you will visit the Christmas tree in our lobby, where supporters like you can find more details on how to contribute. You will be able to choose a colored tag that aligns with your interests to help make a meaningful impact.
We are proud to celebrate more than 100 years in Laguna Beach. Your support today helps create lasting memories – for you, your family, and our entire community.
With gratitude,
Your Laguna Playhouse Family
