SAMPLE FORMAT OF THE FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION

PURPOSE

To provide a sample format of the fire safety information when required by the City of Los Angeles Fire Code.

SCOPE

Applies to every owner, responsible resident, administrator, manager of a hotel or motel located in a building which is three or more stories in height.

AUTHORITY

City of Los Angeles Fire Code Section 4704.4

OVERVIEW

To assist with the safety of everyone within a hotel or motel three stories or more in height. Every owner, responsible resident, administrator, or manager of a hotel or motel located in a building which is three or more stories in height shall cause the fire safety information to be posted and maintained

Every owner, responsible resident, administrator, or manager of a hotel or motel located in a building which is three or more stories in height shall cause the fire safety information to be posted and maintained.

• The fire safety information shall be printed in a clear, non-ornamental style of type which is 12 points or larger in size

FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION

1. How to Call the Fire Department:

• Dial 911

2. How to alert others and where to activate the fire alarm system:

• Exit your room and follow the exit signs to the outside of the building.

• When exiting the building, a manual pull station will be located near each exit about the same height of a door handle. If your building has long hallways and multiple exits, you are likely to find a several alarm pull stations.

• If unable to locate a manual pull station, or alarm fails to operate, warn nearby occupants by knocking on doors and shouting warnings only if safety and time permits.

3. How to be protected inside a room threatened by fire:

• Call 911 and tell them your exact location and situation.

• Place a blanket or similar article that is preferably wet along the bottom of the door to keep smoke out.

• Close as many doors between you and the fire as possible.

• Hang light-colored material out of the window to attract the attention of Fire Department below if possible.

4. How to evacuate the building:

• Exit your room and follow the exit signs to the outside of the building.

Smoke Detector Information:

Smoke detectors are provided for your personal safety. Anyone who willfully and maliciously tampers with, damages, breaks or removes any required smoke detector shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. Any person who willfully and maliciously send, gives, transmits, or sounds any false alarm of fire is guilty of a misdemeanor.
