Complice du bâtiment en devenir, révélatrice de ses transformations, la série Mutant Stage s’est construite avec et en même temps que le projet architectural.

La danse s’est adossée aux murs anciens, a arpenté les gravats, s’est hissée avec la tour de verre, a joué avec les hauteurs, les plans, les verticalités. Une relation imbriquée s’est tissée au fil des mois, faite de vide et d’habité, de destruction et d’élévation, d’espace et de temps, de structures et de corps.

Le chantier a ainsi porté et accueilli le projet de la Fondation : il a été un lieu de création. À l’heure où les portes s’ouvrent au public, dix films ont déjà été conçus et tournés au 9 rue du Plâtre ; ils portent en eux la mémoire de ces trois années de travail architectural et artistique.

Acting as a partner of the evolving building and revealing its transformations, the Mutant Stage series was constructed simultaneously with the architectural project.

Dance leaned against the old walls, prowled the rubble, hauled itself up the glass tower, and played with the heights, planes and verticalities. Over several months, an intertwined relationship was woven between the vacant and inhabited, destruction and elevation, space and time, structures and bodies. Thus, the construction site carried and housed the Fondation’s project: it was a place of creation. As the doors open to the public, ten films have already been conceived and shot at 9 rue du Plâtre; they carry the memory of these three years of architectural and artistic work.

Dimitri Chamblas – Dimitri Chamblas se forme à la danse à l’école de l’Opéra de Paris puis au Conservatoire national supérieur de Lyon. Il danse ensuite avec de nombreux chorégraphes, parmi lesquels Emmanuelle Huynh, Boris Charmatz, Le Ballet Atlantique Régine Chopinot, Mathilde Monnier.

Il collabore avec des créateurs tels que Jean-Paul Gaultier, Andy Goldsworthy, Jean le Gac ou le compositeur Heiner Goebbels. En 1992, il cofonde avec le chorégraphe Boris Charmatz l’association Edna. Leur duo À bras-le-corps a été présenté dans le monde entier et est entré au répertoire de l’Opéra national de Paris au printemps 2017. Il participe en 2011 à l’élaboration du Los Angeles Dance Project sur l’invitation de Benjamin Millepied. Directeur artistique de la 3e Scène – Opéra national de Paris en 2015/2016, il crée cette plateforme numérique dédiée à la création et commande des œuvres à des artistes tels que Alex Prager, Glen Keane, Mathieu Amalric, Xavier Veilhan, Bret Easton Ellis, Julien Prévieux, William Forsythe, Rubber Legz, United Visual Artists ou encore Bertrand Bonello. En 2016, il lance le Studio Dimitri Chamblas, structure qui accueille tous ses projets et collaborations, notamment un duo avec la danseuse étoile Marie-Agnès Gillot, sa participation à la pièce de Boris Charmatz 10 000 gestes pour la Volksbühne de Berlin, ou encore une création avec l’architecte François Perrin pour la Biennale Performa de New York. Dimitri Chamblas — Dimitri Chamblas studied dance at the Paris Opera’s Ballet School and then at the Lyon CNSMD. He subsequently worked with numerous choreographers like Emmanuelle Huynh, Boris Charmatz and Mathilde Monnier, as well as with the choreographic centre Le Ballet Atlantique Régine Chopinot. He has collaborated with creative figures like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Andy Goldsworthy, Jean Le Gac and composer Heiner Goebbels. He co-founded the Edna association with Boris Charmatz in 1992. Their duo À bras-le-corps has been performed worldwide, and was added to the Paris Opera’s repertoire in the spring of 2017.

In 2011, he helped develop the Los Angeles Dance Project at the invitation of Benjamin Millepied.

As artistic director of the Paris Opera’s 3e Scène – Opéra national de Paris in 2015/2016, he created that digital platform dedicated to art, and commissioned works from such artists as Alex Prager, Glen Keane, Mathieu Amalric, Xavier Veilhan, Bret Easton Ellis, Julien Prévieux, William Forsythe, Rubber Legz, United Visual Artists and Bertrand Bonello.

In 2016, he launched Studio Dimitri Chamblas, a structure that hosts all of his projects and collaborations, including his duo with star dancer Marie-Agnès Gillot, his contribution to Boris Charmatz’s play 10 000 gestes for the Volksbühne in Berlin, and a performance with François Perrin for the Performa Biennial in New York. Amélie Couillaud – Amélie Couillaud est curatrice et productrice. Elle a travaillé au Festival d’Avignon et au Parc de La Villette, puis avec les artistes Boris Charmatz et Philippe Quesne, avant de créer sa propre structure pour initier, concevoir et produire des projets au croisement des arts visuels et des arts vivants.

Elle collabore notamment avec Xavier Veilhan, Gisèle Vienne ou Benjamin Millepied et avec des partenaires privés ou publics comme Lafayette Anticipations, le groupe Crèche de France, La Villette, l’Opéra national de Paris ou encore le Fonds Hélène et Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture, pour lequel elle est commissaire associée, avec Dimitri Chamblas, de l’exposition 3e scène en 2016. Elle prépare actuellement une exposition sur l’acte de danser pour le Mucem (Marseille) et co-écrit une série documentaire sur des chorégraphes internationaux. [www.casoar.paris]

5 Amélie Couillaud — Amélie Couillaud is a curator and producer. She worked at the Festival d’Avignon and at the Parc de La Villette, as well as with artists Boris Charmatz and Philippe Quesne, before creating her own structure to initiate, design and produce projects that combine the visual and performing arts. She has collaborated with Xavier Veilhan, Gisèle Vienne and Benjamin 6 Millepied, as well as with private and public partners like Lafayette Anticipations, the Crèche de France group, La Villette, the Opéra national de Paris and the Hélène and Édouard Leclerc Fund for Culture, where she was associate curator of the 2016 exhibition 3e scène alongside Dimitri Chamblas. She is currently preparing an exhibition about the act the dancing for the Mucem (Marseille), and is co-writing a documentary series 7 on international choreographers. [www.casoar.paris]

Stéphane Perche – Stéphane Perche est graphiste, artiste visuel et photographe. Il se forme d’abord à la photographie de reportage en Afrique avec Ray Wilson (exMagnum) et Claude Simon (ex-Picto).

En 2002, il effectue un reportage sur les trains en Europe de l’Est avant de débuter des travaux plus personnels de portraits, de paysages et d’architecture.

En 2017, il crée avec le musicien Jérôme Hoffmann l’installation visuelle et sonore Murmuration (coproduite par La Villette). Depuis 2014, il réalise de nombreuses photographies lors de tournages de films d’art. Il s’approprie ainsi les lieux et personnages des films pour créer des photos personnelles, qui sont aussi documentaires. Il a notamment accompagné les tournages de Xavier Veilhan à l’Opéra national de Paris et à la Villa Noailles, celui de Wendy Morgan avec Lil Buck pour la 3e Scène de l’Opéra national de Paris et l’ensemble des tournages de la série Mutant Stage. C’est cette même démarche qui l’a conduit à photographier en 2016 les visiteurs et les danseurs de l’exposition immersive 3e scène au Fonds Hélène et Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture. Stéphane Perche — Stéphane Perche is a graphic designer, visual artist and photographer. He first studied reportage photography in Africa with Ray Wilson (ex-­Magnum) and Claude Simon (ex-­Picto). In 2002, he did a reportage on trains in Eastern Europe. He then started 8 creating more personal works, capturing portraits, landscapes and architecture. In 2017, with musician Jérôme Hoffmann, he created the visual and sound installation Murmuration (co-produced by La Villette). Since 2014, he has created numerous photographs during art-film shoots, appropriating the locations and film characters in order to create photos that are personal, but also documentary.

9 He has photographed Xavier Veilhan’s shoots at the Paris Opera and the Villa Noailles, Wendy Morgan’s shoot with Lil Buck for the Paris Opera’s 3e Scène, and all of the shoots for the Mutant Stage series. In 2016, it was this same approach that led him to photograph visitors and dancers at the immersive exhibition 3e scène at the Hélène and Édouard Leclerc Fund for Culture.
