Booze relieves Wrong email political tension causes stir Booze was used to relieve the tensions simmering in the run-up to the Branch General Meeting (BGM) of the Bonfire Maponya branch of the ANC at the Lenyenye community hall last Sunday. Residents expressed shock at the new method in which booze has become the norm in meetings of the ANC these days. The meeting was held to elect delegates to the provincial conference of the ANC starting this Friday at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane.

A community member in the area said that she was relieved that the meeting continued without a tussle after it was postponed more than once when members could not agree on the preferred candidates or office bearers for the conference. It is reported that the meeting which was supposed to be held during the week, had to be postponed several times as members could not meet the credentials to carry on with the meeting.

Ordinary members complained on their Facebook profiles that the list of candidates for the election was not in the interest of the people of Lenyenye.

This, they said, was because displaying any sign of disunity would send the wrong message to the community. They did not wish to portray the

image of the ANC as being a divided house. One Facebook post read “let us meet at the grave yard at 02h00 a.m and sort this thing once and for all”.

After much deliberation, the following candidates were eventually elected to the committee; Matome Nkoana for chairperson, Matome Mawasha as deputy, Emmy Maake is the secretary and deputised by Modibe “Dibs” Modiba, while Essy Makgoba is the treasurer.

The following were elected as additional members, Sammy Makgoba, Masekela Maponya, Maropeng Mohale, Buchan Mashianoke, Ruth Makomela, Puna Masopa, Betty Malekutu and Nurse Mmola.

Maropeng Mohale confirmed the names of the office bearers and also revealed that the branch resolved to send Polly Boshielo (speaker of the Limpopo legislature) as their representative in the new PEC set for this weekend.

The meeting went on to deliberate on service delivery matters in the area which included water provision, tar road to the cemetery, the erection of the taxi rank, the Nabane tar road, and the maintenance of internal streets.

The accounting officer (Municipal Manager) of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) Thapelo Matlala, who received positive coverage from local media recently, has now joined the other municipal managers in Limpopo by earning a massive annual salary of R1,6 million. This just a few months after he was hired.

This emerged last Wednesday in an email sent to all GTM staff informing them of a meeting which he had organised for the workers. It appears by all accounts, that the information which is highly sensitive, was accidentally added into the broadcast email delivered to the inboxes of all the GTM’s employees.

The e-mail which was withdrawn from the server just a few hours after it was posted, detailed that the Manager is earning almost 1 percent of the entire budget of the municipality which stands at R2 billion currently after it was passed on the 25th of May. According to the circular to hire the municipal manager, he was to be paid R1,1 million, which was to be increased to R1,3 million and later to R1,6 million. It would appear that because of the sterling job Matlala is doing in his position at the Whitehouse, Christmas has indeed come early.

This incident is similar to what happened at Maruleng Local Municipality (MLM) where the then-accounting officer, Peter Lerole, allegedly increased his own salary which was described by opposition parties as irrational.

Since then, the officer was suspended and subsequently resigned from his position before the matter could make it to court.

In Tzaneen the matter has reportedly attracted the attention of opposition parties who are said to be considering raising the matter in the next sitting of the council.

However the GTM could not be reached for comment.

Police guard sewer crisis project The police were on stand-by on Monday morning when the project to fix the sewerage crisis in Lenyenye township commenced.

The presence of the police was to guard the workers following threats that they may be attacked by residents who illegally constructed homes in front of the project. The area is situated at the entrance to the township and is known as the Lenyenye drive way.

The police, who refused to speak to the media, arrived at 07:00 in two police vans and spent the whole day at the Lenyenye crossing while contractors for the project were busy with their work. According to residents in the area, the illegal homeowners were

advised against remaining on the spot long before they could construct the houses, but they did not listen. It is reported that the municipality has received a court order to remove these houses.

Community members and their liaison officer were hired to assist the contractor to finish the project which stopped about a decade ago. The project is aimed at completing the construction of the Lenyenye Sewerage Project funded by Mopani District Municipality (MDM) to a tune of R90 million. The work will include the construction of plant and the erection of a fence as reported in this newspaper two weeks ago.

The tar road to connect the communities of

Lepehepane, Mathlogwe, Craighead Estate and the Letsitele Valley also started a week ago. This project and the others were announced by GTM mayor Maripe Mangena, during his State of the Municipal Address (SOMA). Mangena further added that there will be a change of names in some of the main streets in towns and some rural villages.

“When we make projects, we will rename them after the names of our community leaders. We do not want to hear Lenyenye this, Nkowankowa this and Khuwana this etcetera, they should be named after the heroes of the villages,” Mangena said.

26 866 Lim Patients await surgery “The state of the Health Care system in Limpopo is shocking,” said Lindy Wilson, DA Deputy Shadow Minister of Health in parliament, in an interview with Bulletin on Tuesday. “The fact that the MEC for Health in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, claims the high rate of diabetes cases in teenagers is as a result of eating too much junk food, is completely absurd. The majority of the children are from the impoverished areas where entire families live off child grants of R460 per month. How on Earth are they going to afford to buy junk food? They can hardly eat any food as it is!”

Bulletin spoke to Wilson after she grilled MEC Ramathuba in the national assembly on her report about the state of the Limpopo Health Care system. In her responses to Wilson’s numerous concerns regarding the malnutrition and the high number of teenage

diabetes cases, Ramathuba made a shocking statement.

“My Grandmother lived to a hundred because they grew their own vegetables, tilled the soil themselves and had their own chickens.” To which Wilson sharply responded “your grandmother was fortunate to live in an area where she had access to water. In Limpopo there is no water in the majority of rural communities so what will these people use to grow their vegetables with? Dust?”

There doesn’t seem to be any silver lining when browsing through the reports detailing the dire straits Limpopo finds itself in.

As Wilson rightly said, “the Health Care system is not nearing collapse, it has already collapsed.”

The proof is in the numbers, and they read like a horror film’s script.

In Limpopo there are currently 1.5 doctors to every 1 000 patients compared to the West-

ern Cape which looks less bleak with 33.1 Health report and are currently dissecting doctors per 1 000 patients. Then there are the many pages. 64 Babies die here every month The DA’s oversight inspection of the Maphutha Malatji hospital in Namakgale, has revealed an alarming infant mortality rate of 28 percent. This means that of the approximately 230 babies born in this hospital every month, around 64 die.

That equates to around 640 children who die in that hospital annually.

Onnie Rammalo, the spokesperson for Maphutha Malatji hospital has denied the statistics and said that the DA is telling blatant lies. “The DA were here, that is true, and they conducted their inspection of the hospital’s facilities, but we don’t know where they came up with those numbers. We would never give them numbers like that and if you look at our own reports, you will see there is a difference.”

But this is not the first time this hospital has made the headlines for its high infant mortality rate. On the 2nd of June 2014, the ANC met with Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, to discuss “gravely concerning reports… of the death of 9 babies at the Maphutha Malatji Hospital in Limpopo”.

In a statement to the press, the ANC said that the minister would take firm action against the individuals responsible for these deaths, should the rumours turn out to be true.

the hospital is still in operation despite a seemingly serious increase in the number of child deaths under its care.

Speculation now links the hospital with the discovery of the two baby bodies at the Phalaborwa dumpsite during the last two weeks of April this year. The coincidences paint a very bleak picture. For instance; both the bodies were found at the Phalaborwa dumpsite, a little over a week apart. Both bodies were males of at least the same age (new-born) and both bodies arrived at the Phalaborwa dumpsite in garbage trucks from Namakgale. Maphutha Malatji hospital is in Namakgale.

Bulletin enquired numerous times at the hospital and the police, on the outcomes of the two autopsies which would have been performed on the bodies after their discovery. Where were these autopsies performed?

On Tuesday this week, we again requested the autopsy results. “At this stage I cannot give you any information because the reports are not with me, they are with the police. They are investigating this matter and will return to us as soon as they are done,” Rammalo responded.

Bulletin has again requested an update on the investigations and the autopsies from the provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe. “We don’t release autopsy results because it is part of the evidence.” We then asked whether the two bodies of the infants found at the dumpsite could be linked to the hospital, to which Ngoepe replied “I can’t talk about these incidents any longer because we will be going into evidence.”

Limpopo Oncology Backlog These numbers below are the current backlog for adult and child patients in district hospitals in Limpopo, who require surgical procedures. This disaster is as a result of a vicious circle of events which has led to an exodus of qualified, highly trained medical practitioners from this province to other, more conducive environments, such as the Western Cape and other countries.

Rather paradoxically Limpopo Health’s MEC Dr Pophi Ramathuba seems oblivious to the crisis affecting her people and stands by the province’s slogan of “development is about people”, despite the numbers showing that there has been no development to warrant that. Under her leadership, which by all accounts seems as terminal as most of her department’s backlogged patients, the Limpopo Health Care system has completely collapsed. There are not enough doctors in the province to service the demands of the people, and quite frankly, not enough politicians who care.

The struggle for recognition “My husband (54) gets up to four pints of blood every six to eight weeks. He was diagnosed with Myelo Dysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in July 2016. It’s a rare life threatening, pre-leukemia, cancer of the bone marrow. The cancer eats his blood cells. Our insurance doesn’t recognize MDS as a chronic cancer illness until it gets to the later stages.

I have sent unanswered motivational letters to have this decision reversed. I want to spare my husband the anxiety about meeting our medical bills every few weeks. I know there’s no cure but I want him to have quality of life.

The prognosis for MDS patients is five -10 years. My husband’s blood group is A+ and we had a recent scare when he needed blood. He’d had his biopsy, at a cost of R25, 000.00, at 13:00. The hospital ordered blood but there was not enough and it only arrived at 23:00. It takes four hours for one pint of blood to enter the

body. The transfusions exhaust him and he sleeps thereafter. He stays in hospital for a while as his temperature has to be measured as it’s dangerous to receive blood. There’s the possibility of iron overload which can lead to organ failure.

“At first the blood transfusions were every three months. Affinity Health only pays R1, 500.00 towards the hospital bill. With blood running at R3, 820.00 a pint our bill is over R11, 000.00 every time and then there’s VAT as well.

I have to pay the hospital up front too.

We’ve tried alternative treatments but they’re even more expensive and made my husband ill.

“My husband had a stroke in Aug 2015. He was overweight tipping the scales at 152 kgs. He dropped to 78 kgs and with the weight loss plus not feeling well we went back to his neurologist. Thus he was diagnosed with MDS

almost a year after his stroke.

“At some stage his body will reject the blood. Then the only option is stem cell transplantation. I haven’t even enquired as to the cost of this procedure. Right now he’s battling to breathe.

“I am appealing to both Affinity Health (medical insurance) and Discovery Life (dreaded disease policy) to recognize MDS as a chronic dreaded disease. MDS is recognized as such in the USA but SA is lagging behind in this regard.

“My husband is also on medication that has to be imported from New Zealand at a cost of R3, 000.00. He has been on legally sourced medical cannabis for the past month and it does stop his anxiety and enables him to sleep. He was on medical cannabis sourced from Mpumalanga but the cannabis was so concentrated that it made him ill. *Names withheld on request for anonymity.

DA election tornado hits Khujwana Residents of Khujwana South, received the treatment of a lifetime on Saturday when Parliamentarians and councillors of the Democratic Alliance (DA) stormed the village to celebrate Youth Day with residents. It was part of the organisation`s election campaign and was graced by the visit of popular Tzaneen-based politician, Desiree Van der Walt and councillors Renee Pohl, Jonas Maake, Ngoako Mohonone and others.

It all started with hundreds of the youths from Ntwanano, Muthumeni, Segabeng and Khujwana South, converging at the local Khujwana Peace Makers sports ground for a soccer match. It was part of the party`s youths day celebrations held countrywide in remembrance of the 1976 June 16 Soweto uprising. Unlike the other years where school uniforms are clad on this day, the village was painted blue with members dressed in DA T- shirts.

After the match which was highly attended by football lovers in the village, the youths were taken in vehicles to Muthumeni section, a new extension with electricity but minimal water supply for the Youth Day function.

They were addressed by the leader of the party and member of parliament Desiree van der Walt and councillor Renee Pohl.

Van de Walt emphasised the need for residents to register to vote in large numbers and help bring change in their own villages through the alleviation of poverty, creation of jobs, provision of basic services such as water, electricity, and accessible streets. Res-

idents were also given time to ask questions and raise their concerns with their leaders about service delivery in the area.

Thereafter the two ladies, together with the other councillors and community DA leaders shared the streets of Ntwanano and Muthumeni checking with the community members about how they feel about the state of service delivery in the area. Among the places visited was a community water project in which residents grouped themselves and raised money to drill boreholes for their homes.

The project which was the first of its type in the Thabina area was prompted by lack of water in the vicinity of Muthumeni, and to make ends meet residents had to collect water from the stream nearby and boil before use. This was because water in the village is supplied at night or during the day when some people might have gone to work and children gone to school.

An act of note was when Van der Walt took the street that led to the house of the ward 16 councillor Ronnie Rikhotso and campaigned just two houses away from the house of the councillor. Another matter that raised eyebrows was the visit by the parliamentarian, to the house of the businessman who was a victim of crime where criminals shot his wife during the robbery at the shop.

Though the politicians were aware that the Bulletin was in attendance, they could not speak to the media saying a statement would be released which had not material-

ised by the time of going to the press. “Jan, ons het net dertig minute om te werk en ons sal daarna `n verklaring gee,” said Van der Walt. “Ons het nie die media in ons program nie en jy moet weet ander mense hou nie van die kamera nie. As jy nie luister nie sal ons ‘n klag teen jou maak by jou werkgewer.”

Khujwana Village, Muthumeni, Makokolo, Segabeng, Georges Valley, Eschart and

Haenertsburg ( The Crown Lands) comprises Ward 16 of the GTM. Rikhotso Ronniel is ward councillor for the ANC while Renee Pohl is proportional councillor for the (DA).

The ward is seen by some of the ward as one of the wards in which in future will be controlled by the DA. Both Pohl and Van der Walt served the DA for decades.

One should not generalise – or so my father used to tell me. Nevertheless I am going to say it - I DO NOT LIKE LAWYERS. Perhaps I’ve just been unlucky, but the three instances when I have had anything to do with a lawyer I have always been on the receiving end of something not very nice.

At the age of eighteen I was the secretary of the Salisbury Dirt Track Club which held its monthly meetings at the B.E.S.L. building.

For those of you unfamiliar with this acronym – it is the British Empire Services League – a charitable organisation dedi-

cated to helping and assisting persons who had taken part in the First or Second World Wars.

Now this building was in a “dodgy” part of town as it had been built way back in 1924 and was now on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. As we are all aware, the older part of any town is generally avoided at night and Salisbury was no exception. After a particular monthly meeting which had taken place at 7 in the evening I was leaving by way of the staircase which went directly on to the pavement and as I descended the stairs I could see quite a large crowd of the members watching an argument between two of the dirt track riders which subsequently turned into a couple of fists being thrown and some bystanders stepping in to stop anything further happening. I had watched the incident mainly because I couldn’t get through the crowd, plus I had a bird’s eye view since I was on the staircase.

A couple of days later I had a call from the one male who had been part of the altercation saying that he was being charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. I was somewhat surprised – I hadn’t thought it was particularly bad.

Just what he wanted to hear - would I mind being a witness for him? In retrospect I was young and naïve, but nevertheless I didn’t think that he had caused “grievous bodily harm´ so agreed. My parents thought I was out of my mind!!

Nevertheless off I went to the court on

due date – actually quite excited. After the swearing in and giving my name and all the relevant information the prosecuting lawyer attacked me. What was I doing in that part of town? Why was I standing around watching a fight? I suddenly realised that I was at a distinct disadvantage – wrong time – wrong place, but I stuck to my guns and said it as I saw it.

Suddenly the lawyer leaned forward and said “You saw the entire altercation?” I admitted that I had indeed so he asked if I knew how many punches could be thrown in a matter of seconds which were difficult to see. I agreed but told him that I was fairly sure of what I had seen. And how could I be so sure – well I regularly attended amateur boxing tournaments.

Suddenly I realised that not only was he insinuating that I hung around in a dodgy part of town (watching fights), but I also obviously hung around boxing gyms. In vain did I try to explain that I had twin brothers who were nine years younger than me who were members of the local boxing club? Since my mother did not drive and my father was very often away it was my job to drive them to the tournaments. I was reprimanded by the judge who told me to answer only Yes or No to the questions.

At that time I was a rather chubby, freckle-faced 18 year old with a sunburnt nose but I had a rather horrible feeling that by the time I left court my reputation was in tatters!

And this was my first encounter with a lawyer!

Natuurlik klim niemand met die eerste slag op ’n fiets en ry perfek nie – hoekom verwag ons onmiddellike perfekte geloof? Fietsryers weet dat val, opstaan en weer op die fiets klim, die enigste manier is om ’n bekwame fietsryer te word. Doeltreffende geloof vra dieselfde: toegepaste kennis en vertroue. Daarsonder is jou geloof nutteloos – ’n fiets wat in die motorhuis hang!

Baie mense se geloof hang in die motorhuis, miskien omdat hulle vantevore ’n bloutjie geloop het met geloof. As fietsryers dan weet dat opstaan en weer begin al is wat werk, hoekom doen ons nie dieselfde met ons geloof nie?

GVA holds fun event for all

Gear-Tec returns through the mud hole.

The George’s Valley 4x4 Family Festival, sponsored

by ClemenGold and PPS, was a fun-filled day. This is the single biggest event to raise funding for the George’s Valley Association (GVA). The GVA is at the forefront of security for farmers in the Valley.

All farmers are actively involved in protecting the area and its people.

There were four 4x4 trails to see the scenic sights on mostly private land and seldom seen by tourists.

Pieter and Ingrid Henning coordinated the initiative to clear the grasslands of invasive pine trees. Armed with saws and pruning shears, the Henning couple led the move to cut down the invaders. They concentrated on the long ridge on top of the Wolkberg Mountain known as the Stylkop Ridge.

They explained, “Nature Conservation is not doing anything to protect the indigenous grasslands.

We’re doing it for the GVA. This is an initiative that will culminate in the GVA adopting the mountain to conserve the area. We reckon the area is about 46,000 hectares. Not only will the aim be to rid the area

The local band Barefoot Breeze and a solo musician from Musina entertained the crowds. Farmers sold their fresh produce, Liza Atherstone from Roumen Wholesale Nursery, famous for her clivia and landscaping expertise, sold plants. There were many stalls selling everything from jewellery to clothing and food which included several spit braais.

Many daredevils, from Isuzu to Landrover drivers, took part in one of the six obstacle courses.

Obstacles ranged from mud holes, regarded as soft obstacles, to the Chicken Route and on to a steep incline and decline known as Everest. Farmer John Taylor, a regular at this event, explained that mastering these obstacles was not so much a show of the superior type of vehicle but a test of skill.

The long history of the art campus on the grounds of Merensky High was revealed, honoured and laid to rest in the corridors of the brand new MDDK (Music Dance Drama Culture) centre during a gala ceremony there, on Tuesday evening.

The event was hosted by the architects of this new creative portal who also provided the entertainment for the evening through a well-constructed drama followed by beautiful rendition of Whitney Houston’s popular ‘I want to dance with somebody’.

The new home of all things magical will offer current and prospective Merensky students the opportunity to excel in a variety of drama and dance disciplines, learn to play the piano or guitar, learn to sing or play the violin, draw, paint or photograph the world around them.

Since its inception in 1993, the halls of the art academy has offered students a safe haven from where they are able to express themselves and pave the way ahead for a long and promising career in performing arts.

The Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Magoebaskloof Hotel this weekend. The special guest will be Alani Keiser, a Johannesburg-based raw plant-based recipe creator. Alani has written several eBooks available on Amazon. She’s included raw plant-based recipes, pantry-makeover tips and has published natural beauty articles in various magazines.

Baie van die plaaslike mense is regtig arm en kry swaar. Ons het laasjaar by die skooltjie pap afgelewer, om veral met die klein kinders te help. Verder het ons besluit om vir hul kleuterskool 4 swaaie op te sit, aangesien hulle geen terrein speelgoed het nie. Ons het besluit om môre, Jeugdag, 30 van hul kleiner kinders op die oord te onthaal. daar is met een van die plaaslike taxis gereël om hulle te vervoer vanaf die

kerk na die oord en die middag weer terug.

Ons gaan hulle ontvang en vir elkeen ‘n geskenkpakkie met ‘n T-hempie, Koeldrank, skyfies en lekkergoed in.

Met middagete kry hule elk ‘n hamburger met skyfies en ‘n koeldrank. Teen 15h00 die middag sal ons hul dan weer veilig by die kerk terug besorg. Die Vermaakspan gaan ook gedurende die oggend met hul speletjies speel.

Ons sien uit daarna om hul op die oord te ontvang en beplan om dit ‘n jaarlikse instelling te maak. Ek glo dit gaan ‘n heerlike pretdag wees. Dit is altyd heerlik om iets te gee wat ons as vanselfsprekend ervaar.

Die toer is ongeveer een en ‘n halwe uur lank en besprekings moet vroegtydig gemaak word vir skoolgroepe. Die Wolkberg kleuters het die uitstappie baie geniet en beoog ook om dié uitstappies ‘n gereelde instelling te maak vir die ander grade, net soos die besoek aan die brandweer elke jaar.

Two champs in the house Five of Laerskool Tzaneen Primary’s six rugby teams played in the Limpopo semi- and final matches held in Warmbaths on Saturday, the 16th of June. Two teams, namely the U/9’s and the 2nd team, won their final matches and are now the new provincial champions. The U/10 team is boasts the runners-up spot in their contest. All teams played tough matches on the day, but managed to hold their heads – and spirits – up high.

The U/9 boys won their semi-final match against Bosveld Primary from Ellisras with a score of 27-0. They played in the final against Pietersburg Oos and won that match by 19 points to 14. These young men are now proud Limpopo Champions for the 2018 season.

The U/10 team played their semi-final match against Krugerpark Primary from Mokopane and won 12-5. Unfortunately, they lost the final against Pietersburg Oos with a score of 10-24.

The 3rd team played in the semi-final against Thabazimbi and lost in nail-biting match by one point, 12-13.

The 2nd team won their semi-final against Thabazimbi with a score of 13-0 before going on to win their final

against Krugerpark by 19 points to 12.

They are also proudly Limpopo champions for the 2018 season.

The 1st Team lost their semi-final encounter against Thabazimbi by two converted tries in a match that ended 10-24 in favour of their opponents.

“We can bring an end to this rugby season by saying congratulations to all of these boys who showed that hard work and dedication certainly pays off. Thank you also to all the parents who supported their children during the season. It is a really great day to be a Larrie,” said Willes Steenkamp, Head of Sports at Laerskool Tzaneen Primary.

Circus treat awaits Merensky matrics Everybody loves a circus. Especially a night circus where stunning performers amaze with skill and daring acts. Merensky High School’s class of 2018 received their Night Circus invitations to the matric farewell on Wednesday, 13 June.

They were treated to a performance by the grade 11’s in the school

hall, whereafter they enjoyed snacks synonym with the circus.

This event was followed by the traditional yearly “Balloon Ceremony”, where the grade 12’s attached a written blessing to a balloon which was then released into the sky.

The countdown to this years’ matric farewell on 27 September has started, and promises to, once again, be an evening to remember.

Plasie boys endure gruelling race

Malcolm Jansen at the prize giving ceremony.

On the weekend of 9 June, Tristan Dale (grade 8), Stef Lordan (grade 9), Malcolm Jansen (grade 10) and Angus Dalrymple-Hay (grade 12) from Merensky High School participated in the Imperial Toyota Nelspruit Hazyview Enduro race.

After a gruelling 101km, Angus managed to finish in 5th place.

Tristan finished in 3rd place in his 40km Pro Mini class. Stef achieved a 2nd place and Malcolm a 1st place in the Green class which covers 52km.

Die 0/14A-span het hierdie wedstryd nie die mas opgekom teen ‘n sterker Merensky-span nie. Hul het hul wedstryd 4-0 verloor en het as die Limpopo naaswenners geëindig.

Ben Vorster se 0/15A-span was slaggereed vir hul wedstryd en die eerste doel is deur Dezi Dreyer aangeteken. Die halftydtelling was 1-0 vir die Vossies. Merensky het dit reg gekry om in die tweede helfte ook n doel aan te teken en hul wedstryd het 1 elk geëindig. Daar is oorgegaan na die 8-sekonde uitspele. Briljante keer-

werk is deur beide spanne se doelwagters getoon, maar die Plasies het met een doel gewen en die wedstryd het 4-3 vir die Plasies geëindig. Die 0/15A-span het 4de in die provinsie geëindig.

Die Vossies se 0/16A-span was slaggereed vir hul titaniese stryd, wat vir hul voorgelê het. Hul het dit reg gekry om vroeg in die wedstryd ‘n velddoel aan te teken, wat van Jana Oberholzer (kaptein) se stok af ingeskiet is. Die Vossies het halftyd 1-0 voor geloop. Laat in die tweede helfte het die Vossies dit reg gekry om nog ‘n velddoel aan te teken. As gevolg van goeie samespel tussen die voorspelers en Rivoningo Mangalana is ‘n doel aangeteken. Die Vossies het die wedstryd 2-0 gewen en is vir die derde agtereenvolgende jaar die Limpopo wenners.

Boston’s turn to boast Boston City Campus and Business College held their annual graduation ceremony earlier this month at the Ivory Tusk Lodge in Tzaneen. During this ceremony the students were honoured for their hard work and handed their graduation diplomas which license them to enter the business world with confidence.

The top students of the year were also announced and specially rewarded for their efforts on the day. In the field of Advertising Communication and Public Relations, Kgopotso Sete walked away with the highest accolades in her class while in the field of Business Admin Communication and Service Studies the honour went to Pontsho Mathebula.

Annah Moremi worked hardest in her class to graduate at the top of the pile in her chosen field of Human Resource and Legal Studies, Jerry Mokwena out-performed his class mates in the Computer Software Category while Nhlamulo Mhlongo landed top honours in Hospitality, Events and Tourism. Trevor Nkuna was the top Computer Technician and Annah Moremi was awarded the prestigious honour of the top overall student for the year.

In a fitting tribute on Youth Day, 16 June, four girls hockey teams from Merensky High School competed in the Limpopo finals for medium schools at Stanford Lake College.

The u.14 girls were the stars of the day, defeating the team of Ben Vorster, 4-0. Scorers were: Amerie Kotze (2), Claudelle Cawood (1) and Chantelle Meyer (1). This promising team is now Limpopo champions and will be in action at Cornwall Hill College in the Noordvaal tournament on 2 to 4 August.

The u.15 team won Ben Vorster 3-2. At end of play the score was a draw, 1-1.

After an 8 second play-off Luné Fritz scored her second goal and Emma Dalrymple-Hay also contibuted a goal. This team now hold third position in Lim-

popo and are going through to the Noordvaal tournament at Hatfield Christian Academy.

Merensky’s u.16 team claimed a second position in Limpopo and will travel to Hockey Farm Witbank for their Noordvaal challenge.

In an exciting match against the team of Stanford Lake College, the Plasie 1st team jumped with joy after their 1-0 victory. Tharien Lombard was the fortunate goal-scorer. This score assured their third position in Limpopo as well as a trip to Krugersdorp where they will compete at Noordheuwel High School in the Noordvaal tournament.

Plasie hockey looks back on a very successful season when taken into consideration that the u.14 boys will also compete in the Noordvaal tournament.
