Avo-diefstal ruk hand uit in die Tzaneen omgewing. Hierdie afgelope naweek is avo-diewe in Agatha vasgetrek nadat hulle die Gubbitz avo-boorde van meer as R60 000 se vrugte gestroop het. Sekuriteitsgroepe in dié area het op informasie reageer en toegeslaan op ‘n Toyota-bakkie, volgelaai met groen pere. Inligting is ontvang dat dié spesifieke voertuig reeds drie vragte avokadopere na ‘n huis in die Tarentaalrand-omgwewing, daardie oggend voor die arrestasie, vervoer het. Lede van K9
Sekuriteit het die informasie opgevolg en op die verdagte huis afgekom. “Ons het eers net die honderde pere op die grond sien lê waar die verdagtes besig was om die vrugte in sakkies ter verpak. Daar was ‘n tafel met ‘n seil oor aan die kant van die huis wat eers nie vir ons verdag gelyk het nie. Toe ons egter die seil lig merk ons nog meer pere netjies in avo-boksies verpak, reg om mark toe vervoer te word!” het Marius Jacobs van K9 Sekuriteit aan Bulletin vertel. Die boksies wat gebruik is om die vrugte te verpak is maklik verkrygbaar by enige van die verpakkers in die dorp en daar was geen boerdery se naam of besonderhede op dié verpakking nie. Volgens Jacobs het hulle informasie ontvang dat ‘n plaaslike vervoermaatskappy gebruik word om die vrugte weekliks na die mark toe te skuif. “Ons het ‘n vrou by hierdie huis gearresteer en drie bakkie-vragte avos na die Tzaneen polisiestasie vervoer. Dieselfde voertuig wat vir die avo-diefstal vasgekeer is, is blykbaar ook verbind aan die vlaag houtdiefstal onder die plantasies in die area. arrested. This brings the number of traffic officers arrested on charges of corruption in the province to 30, in less than a month since December last year. Operation Siyabangena kicked off in the Tzaneen area with the arrest of 17 traffic officers and 3 subsidiaries. These traffic officers who were arrested in December have since been released on bail of R5 000 each by the Tzaneen, Bolobedu, Modjadjiskloof and the Ritavi magistrate courts. In another operation the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Unit arrested nine suspects including five SAPS members and a Home Affairs official, on Monday and Tuesday this week. The suspects were all aged between 23 and 51. They were arrested on charges of alleged corruption, fraud and smuggling of suspected stolen vehicles out of South Africa. The arrests are a culmination of a Hawks’ investigative project dubbed “Mirror” aimed at addressing corrupt officials and illegal activities which include the smuggling of
suspected stolen vehicles through the border post at Beit-bridge near Mussina. The five police officers who are stationed at Tom Burke SAPS and the border post respectively, as well as one home affairs official and three runners, were on the Hawks radar since 2016 following complaints by the public. It is alleged that suspects worked in unison arranging fraudulent documents to ensure safe passage through the border post for smugglers of stolen vehicles. They also allegedly accepted bribes. One of the nine arrested suspects, Sgt Israel Mandiwana, stationed at Beitbridge border post has appeared before Makhado Magistrate Court today and he was remanded in custody until 1 February for formal bail application. Three way fight for Chairperson The former mayor of the Mopani District Municipality (MDM) and chairperson of the Mopani region of the ANC, Humphrey Mokgobi, along with the former Speaker for the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) and current Limpopo Chairperson of the ANCWL, Makoma Makhurupetsi, will contest Stanley Mathabatha for the position of the Limpopo chairperson of the ANC. Danny Msiza, former treasurer for the ANC in the province, also threw his hat in the contest. Msiza is the former husband of Mmapula Mokaba-Phugwana, the MEC for Agriculture in Limpopo. The list that is circulating purporting Mathabatha as chairperson places Joshua Matlou for deputy chairperson, Lawrence Mapoulo for secretary, Florence Radzilana for deputy secretary, and Phophi Ramathuba for Treasurer. Mokgobi, who has been in the political wilderness was lobbied by the camp that supported Nkosazana Zuma in the national election at Nasrec in December last year. It is reported that the move to contest Mathabatha was motivated by President Zuma who allegedly said that Mokgobi has not been utilized adequately within the ANC. He was at the Nkowankowa community hall in November with presidential hopeful Zweli Mkhize, lobbying delegates to support them at the Nasrec conference. Florence Radzilana is the former Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) mayor and the former chairperson of the Vhembe region of the ANC. Phophi Ramathuba is the current MEC for health. Mathabatha, the number one supporter of Cyril Ramaphosa, was the ambassador to Ukraine before being recalled in 2012 to be Premier of Limpopo replacing Cassel Mathale. She served as the chairperson of the Mopani ANCWL and later chairperson of the Limpopo ANCWL. Joshua Matlou was the former chairperson of the Limpopo ANCYL and the former mayor of the MDM until he was removed when Limpopo was put under administration. He was
Traffic stations will reopen soon The Department of Transport in Limpopo has assured residents of Tzaneen and Modjadjiskloof that the backlog in service delivery caused by the closing of testing stations at Nkowankowa and Bolobedu will be addressed soon. This followed the arrest of six traffic officers attached to Nkowankowa testing station and the subsequent arrest of another 11 officers in Tzaneen and Modjadjiskloof in December. The protests at the testing station by residents and driving school owners demanding that services be restored at the centres, prompted a visit by the MEC for transport, Makoma Makhurupetsi, to Tzaneen to solve the problem. Makhurupetsi along with the mayor of Tzaneen, Maripe Mangena, visited the stations and addressed residents who gathered at the centre. Makhurupetsi commended the Hawks and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) for a job well done. She said the

We understand that the documents you have handed in here are very urgent in nature,” he

said. “Though I cannot urge you to demand your money back, I can promise that we will have the situation normalised soon and that we are awaiting the employment of new traffic officers to ease the burden.” Spokesperson for the driving school owners, Mr Moses Shandlale, said the problems at the station are aggravated by the testing officials who own driving schools. “These guys compete with us directly,” he told Bulletin. “They serve as testing officials and driving school owners at the same time. The testing station at Lenyenye should be reopened as it would assist people from communities such as Lephepane, Khujwana, Bokgaga, Gavaza and Burgersdorp.” The arrested traffic officers spent the festive season in police custody before being released on bail of R 5 000 each last week. Work stalled at new prison

Contract workers employed by Musan Trading Enterprise (MTE) at Tzaneen’s new correctional facility have downed tools over an alleged payment dispute. According to the 37 workers, they have not been issued with contracts since they started work there in February last year, and currently earn R150 per day which is paid to them fortnightly. “We have no contracts and no stipulated working hours,” said one of the workers. “MTE issued us with engagement forms only, and we did not receive copies of those forms either. The engagement forms do not stipulate a date of employment, a duration of employment or a payment structure. When we ask them questions about these issues we are told that we should stop making noise or risk losing our jobs.” Apparently MTE also deducts UIF from the wages of these workers, but the group told Bulletin that when they enquired about their
UIF registration at the Department of Labour, they were not on the system. No payslips are allegedly issued either and the workers say they do not receive double pay for working over weekends. “We start work at 06:30 each morning and knock off past 17:00 in the afternoons. On weekends we are asked to work but we do not have set hours, so we work the same hours as in the week. No overtime is paid either. Most of the workers are from the area with a handful being from Mpumalanga. The group also alleged that some of the workers are illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe. Some of them are skilled labourers, but the majority are unskilled and despite this, they all receive the same pay. “How can a skilled worker, like a welder or a painter receive the same money as an unskilled labourer? At this site we have people with no welding qualifications doing metalwork and
painters pushing wheelbarrows. It is like we are slaves working under constant fear.” When the building industry shutdown over December for the annual break, the workers were told to return to the site on the 8th of January. MTE however sent them notifications that they should rather report for duty on the 10th of January. This is what led to the group downing tools as they alleged they only received six days’ payment and not their full fortnightly wages. “The last time we received our full fortnightly payment was on the 15th of December. Now we struggle with transport money. MTE has said that we can request money from the office which they will then deduct from our wages, but this has still not been done.” The project falls under the Department of Public Works which is under no obligation
to issue to press releases or updates on the project. Bulletin has however learnt that on Monday morning the Letaba Sheriff, Tertius Robertson, paid a visit to the offices of the department in Plantation Street. Assets were seized because of a non-payment dispute between the Department and Pusela Water and Irrigation to the value of just R7 000. We were unable to reach MTE or the department for comment on the matter, but we have sent an enquiry to their respective offices and hope to receive some clarity on the matter. At the time of going to print we have had no new developments in the ongoing saga. — Joe Dreyer

Tzaneen still balancing on the powerlines Sam Lelope, the Director of Electrical Services and the acting Municipal Manager at the GTM has still not said a word about the electrical supply breakdown in his jurisdiction. Media enquiries to the spokesperson of the GTM on the matter remain unanswered and messages sent to his phone are ignored. We have leanrt from a source within the municipality that Lelope has now applied for the full time position of Municipal Manag-
er. We have not been able to confirm this either due to the unofficial policy of the GTM to keep these issues under wraps. Our source has said that Lelope allegedly warned employees that should any of them talk to the media they will face disciplinary action. In the meantime we have also learnt that one of the three transformers at the Tarentaalrand substation which is in urgent need of repairs for over a year now, might be receiving the attention
of an as yet unnamed contractor. The transformer in question will need to be cleaned and new oil circulated before being tested. The process could take some time and will depend on the appointment of a specialist contractor. In the meantime the Greater Tzaneen area struggles on a whim with daily power cuts and no communication from their municipality. We also still have no idea why Lelope was appointed into the acting MM chair
when the Electrical Department is in urgent need of a strong manager to solve its own crisis. When or if this will be prioritised remains open for speculation given the lack of feedback on the matter from the GTM. We are still awaiting any clear response on many other matters including the taxi rank where a meeting was alleged to have been scheduled with the taxi owners to solve the Claude Wheatley problem.

Granny’s Grumbles – Greed
There is a TV programme entitled “American Greed” which is produced and directed in America. One thing about the Americans is their complete honesty about certain aspects of their lifestyle. Can you imagine a local TV
progamme called “South African Greed” or even “British Greed” revealing how prominent businessmen are raking in millions by ripping off unsuspecting members of the public. Not much chance – they would be gagged before the first showing! Consider to yourself how car insurance and household insurance premiums have skyrocketed during the past few years. Do you know somebody who has claimed for something that was not stolen or lost? I have two acquaintances who admit quite openly that they have, so I assume that there are many, many more out there. How about Medical Aid? I had an appointment with
my doctor last December. The waiting room – which is normally packed – was empty. I queried it with the receptionist who smiled and said that since it was December, most people had used up all their medical aid for the year. I found it difficult to believe that the majority of people use up all their medical aid before December, but according to her, many people have the idea that since they are paying a certain amount each month, they should surely get their money’s worth, so they will arrive almost weekly even if they have only an itchy ear. Put on your walking shoes (and pick a relatively cool day). Walk from supermarket to supermarket and also the butch-
eries. Take your notepad and check the prices of things that you use on a regular basis. Some of the items you check on will be marginally different in price, but others (and especially meat) will be anything up to R20 per kg higher. I do agree that certain large supermarkets buy in bulk and thus qualify for higher discounts, but in many cases the larger supermarkets are the very ones that are ripping us off. Another rip-off is the new light bulbs – supposedly energy saving and long-life. I don’t know if I just live in a bad area, but last year we spent more on replacement globes than we had in the previous 10 years of our marriage.

The Message Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church Disease affects us all and comes in various sources: physical- when our body is overcome by it, we become distressed and wonder what we could have done to prevent it. However, some diseases are hereditary and we suffer enormously. I think that many of us do not fully understand the suffering that people go through and are sometimes not as sympathetic as we should be. Having lived with someone who has had acute back pain and numerous operations, I fully understand the discomfort they live with, especially when they are trying to live a normal life and are independent, they often try to hide it from others, saying “I am OK!” but they are not. Often diseases can lead to depression, but depression can also come from the pressures of life. Once again, if we are not enlightened about it we think that these people are just putting it on. Sin is also a disease and many times we often think it cannot be cured. However, if we are a true believer, we can overcome it. Jesus died a horrible death to break the hold that sin has on us and we need to believe that in doing so we can be free from sin and yes, even death. However, not earthly death but spiritual death. If we confess our sins and truly attempt not to sin again we can be healed. If we take just one sin a day, and pray about it and try not to commit that same sin that day we are on our way to recovery. We need to continue in this way, daily. It is not going to be easy, but if we try our best and with God’s help we will be able to improve our lives. I believe also that if we are unforgiving, we suffer the most. It may not seem so, but it is true, unforgiveness becomes a cancer that causes all problems in our lives. Just look around you and see what is happening in this world. I become concerned that we are all falling into a trap set by the evil one, because our minds become corrupted and often our loving nature is changed. We need to forgive those who have wronged us and build a better future for this world.

Klofies verwelkom nuwe maats Laerskool Duiwelskloof het hierdie jaar weer ‘n hele nuwe groep Graad 1 maats in die Klofie-familie in verwelkom. Met die eerste kwartaal van die 2018 skooljaar reeds in volle swang, blyk dit of die nuwe span goed aangepas het. Die tranerige eerstedag-ogies is nou iets van die verlde met net die brieë glimlagte wat steeds die opwinding van ‘n nuwe avontuur beeldsend. Laerskool Duiwelskloof is te midde van die onlangse munisipale worstellinge en gereelde wateronderbrekings steeds gerat vir die jaar.

Rooi warm rissies brand Blou sterte Wolkberg Akademie het hierdie week hul jaarprogram met ‘n interhuis-atletiekdag afgestop. Die skool se jong atlete het vol opgewondenheid op die velde van Hoërskool Merensky toegesak. Die twee spanne, naamlik die Rooies en Bloues, het oudergewys mekaar die stryd aangesê. Ironies is dat die kleure van die spanne ooreenstem met dié van hul grootskool eweknieë en dalk is die Rooies se oorwinning ‘n voorsmakie van wat moontlik op hul wag? Nie te min, dit was ‘n dag wat
New Badger A new badger has joined the Stanford lake College burrow. Monique Scheepers was appointed as the director of Girls’ Sport at the prestigious college and will most likely sharpen the skills of the girls hockey squads. She is still an active hockey player herself and studied Human Movement Science and Psychology at NWU Potchefstroom. Scheepers acquired her Post Graduate Diploma in Senior Education with Unisa.

Merensky boogskuts het weereens tydens die SANAA somerveldkampioenskappe op 20 en 21 Januarie uitstekend gevaar. 8 Skuts het deelgeneem aan hierdie kampioenskap wat op Klippan, buite Carolina, aangebied is. Die skuts het tydens 2 baie warm dae gemiddeld 7 ure per dag die son en veld trotseer. Elke skut het 4 pyle na 28 teikens, op ‘n afstand van 80 jaard, afgestuur. Op dag 1 skiet Benéche Jackson en Martin Mostert ‘n provinsiaal kwalifiserende telling, terwyl Lin-Mari Theron en Canell Jackson spog met ‘n nasionale kwalifisering. Benéche verwerf ook haar provinsiale kleure. Ashley Hunt, Dewald Haagner, Benéche en Martin het elk ‘n persoonlike beste geskiet.
Tydens dag 2 sit Lin-Mari en Canell hul sege voort en skiet weer nasionaal kwalifiserende tellings. Hiermee verwerf albei nasionale kleure (4 nasionale tellings word benodig vir kleure). Martin styg uit en skiet ook ‘n nasionale kwalifisering, waarmee hy sy provinsiale kleure verwerf. Benéche skiet weer ‘n provinsiale kwalifisering en Ashley en Martin skiet elk ‘n persoonlike beste. Canell en Dewald behaal goud in hul onderskeie klasse. Lin-Mari, Martin en Sean Hunt bring elk ‘n silwer medalje huistoe, terwyl Ashley brons verwerf. Benéche eindig 4de in haar klas. Hierdie gesoute skuts berei hulself nou voor vir die wêreldkampioenskap wat in Oktober in Suid-Afrika plaasvind.

Nuwe Vossiepersoneel Die Hoërskool Ben Vorster is opgewonde oor drie nuwe personeellede, wat in 2018 by die wenspan angesluit het. Me. Gerda Rautenbach (Wiskunde), Me. Shé Webb (Afrikaans) en Me. Carla van Dyk (Engels). Me. Rautenbach het reeds etlike jare gelede al haar buiging
as wiskunde-onderwyser by Hoërskool Ben Vorster gemaak en is tans terug van Pretoria om die Vossies se uitslae na ‘n hoogtepunt te bou vir 2018. ‘n Woord van hartlike verwelkoming aan ons nuwe Vossie-personeel. Ons vertrou dat u baie gelukkig sal wees in Vossieland.
Die personeel van die kringkantoor, die Departement van Onderwys, die Beheerliggaamvoorsitter, Mnr. Piet Smit, en die skoolhoof, Mnr. Chris Denysschen.
Die Provinsiale kringkantoor asook die Departement van Onderwys in Tzaneen, verteenwoordig deur Mnr. S.P Mobayi en Mnr. K.F Nom-
vela, die kringbestuurder, het die Hoërskool Ben Vorster op 17 Januarie besoek om hul gelukwensing oor te dra.
Hulle het die skool persoonlik kom gelukwens, met hul 2017-matriekuitslae, as een van die Top 20-skole in die Provinsie.
Finsbury toets Vossies Hoërskool Ben Vorster se Senior krieketspan het verlede Saterdagmiddag tuis teen Hoërskool Noordheuwel deelgeneem in die openingsrondte van die Finsbury kriekettoernooi. Noordheuwel het eerste gekolf. Die Vossie-boulers het vroeg toe geslaan en twee vinnige paaltjies geneem. Noordheuwel se kolwers het egter vas geskop en na 50 boulbeurte het hulle 362/7 behaal. Cobus Geldenhuys het skitterend geboul en het ses paaltjies vir slegs 46 lopies in sy 10 boulbeurte geneem. Na middagete het die Vossies gekolf en ‘n openingsvennootskap van 52 lopies, het die Vossies ‘n goeie begin gegee. Hul het egter drie vinnige paaltjies verloor, maar die 5de paaltjie vennootskap van 119 lopies tussen Johan Harms en Atwell Mokgoloboto het hul weer op koers ge-
bring. Hoërskool Noordheuwel se boulers het egter baie gedissiplineerd geboul en die Vossies kon slegs 235/9 in hul 50 boulbeurte aanteken. Johan Harms het skitterend gekolf en is ongelukkig een lopie, kort van sy honderdtal, uitgehaal. Sy 99 lopies was egter die hoogste telling vir Ben Vorster Die O/15-span was nie opgewasse vir die sterbelaaide Hoërskool Noordheuwel nie en het hul wedstryd verloor.Daar sal wel weer kans wees vir die Vossies om hul eer te verdedig wanneer hulle hierdie naweek teen Jeugland te staan kom. Hierdie toenooi vind elke naweek vir die volgende vyf weke plaas en op die laaste naweek, 17 Februarie, sal Ben Vorster teen Merensky te staan kom. Beide skole speel in die C-Afdeling.

Oh, what a feeling On Friday, 19 January, four Classic, Latin and NRG dancers from Merensky High School’s MDDA auditioned in Polokwane for the Beyond 2000 national arts competition. Nicole Muller, Marla Barnard, Crystal Kirstein and Jeandre Joubert convinced the judges of
their talent and were chosen to compete in the national competition from end March this year. Judging on past successes and zealous tutoring from coach Bonita Jacobs, combined with talent and commitment, they will surely dance to the top.
Stanford Lake College recently hosted Aimee Theodore, the Head of Programme Development at Round Square International (situated in the UK). Aimee also participated in the Grade 12 Leadership Camp. She spent the first week of the first term at the college, observing the implementation of the Round Square Discovery Framework in the classroom as Stanford is one of only a handful of schools worldwide piloting the curriculum. The Round Square Development Framework is built on six Spirits namely Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service. Within these six Spirits are found the twelve Discoveries which assist students with learning essential life skills such as a sense of responsibility, compassion, inquisitiveness, tenacity and the ability to solve problems. Adin comes from Southcity Christian Schools in KZN where he was a Junior Primary Sports Co-ordinator and head of the hockey programme. His position at Stanford Lake will be Director of Hockey and Physical Education teacher for Grades 9-11. As Director of Hockey he would like to develop a strong hockey programme making Stanford the leading hockey school in Limpopo. He firmly believes in the quote by Allistar McCaw: “Your effort level is a direction reflection of your interest level. You don’t need to tell anyone how invested you are; your actions will.”

A previous student of Stanford Lake College, he matriculated in 2005. He started working in the IT industry directly after school in Tzaneen and later moved to Johannesburg to study further in IT. He has had the privilege to be the IT Manager for Medicines Sans Frontiers SA, Starlight Cruises and Resolution Health. Craig is excited to be working on interesting new projects for the school and all the challenges that they present.
Another Alumnus of Stanford Lake College, Izet completed her BA Degree in Psychology, majoring in psychology and criminology at The University of Pretoria. After a few years of travelling and dabbling in the field of Interior Design, her passion for art has lead her to becoming the interim Art Teacher for the Visual Arts Department at Stanford Lake College.
Sean-Michael Ceronio Sean-Michael is from Piet Retief and has recently completed his Human Movements and Sports management Degree with Maths as his main elective at the University of Pretoria. He completed his Internship at Uplands College. Currently he teaches Mathematics to Grades 8, 9 and 10 as well as Life Orientation to Grade10s.

Twee plaaslike krieketspelers is besig om vinnig naam te maak op nasionale vlak danksy hul spogvertonings die afgelope seisoen. Lance Truman van Stanford Lake College en Johan Harms van Hoërskool Ben Vorster het albei tydens die Nasionale Momentum o/15 Krieketweek op Grey College se velde in Bloemfontein uitgeblink. Dié jaarlikse krieketweek is vanjaar vanaf die 8ste to die 12de Desember in die Vrystaat gehou en beide dié twee seuns het vir Limpopo op die kolfblad uitgestap. Sestien provinsies se spanne is hier verteenwoordig en Truman en Harms het hul man teen 208 van die land se beste o/15-spelers gestaan. Harms word beskou deur sy eweknieë as ‘n dodelike top-orde kolwer en ‘n blitsvinnige openingsbouler. In Bloem is hy in twee van sy span se ses wedstryde as Speler van die Wedstryd aangewys en het hy 124 lopies tydens die toernooi gemoker. As bouler het hy regtig uitgeblink en spog met 15/82 in slegs 33 boulbeurte. Sy vertoning het hom die gesogte Momentum trofeë vir Beste o/15-Bouler op dié nasionale krieketweek gewerf. Tydens die 2017-seisoen het Harms vir Ben Vorster se o/19span asook vir die Phoenix Krieketklub gespeel - al was hy toe net 15-jaar oud. Hy kan met reg trots wees op sy groottotaal (dit sluit al 2017 se skool- klub- en provinsiale wedstryde in) van 1 099 lopies in 33 kolfbeurte (‘n gemiddeld van 85.46) en ‘n boulsyfer van 55/503 in 144 boulbeurte deur die seisoen.

Tydens die Limpopo o/19 skole liga het hy ook die meeste lopies aangeteken met ‘n kolfsyfer van 600 lopies in 9 beurte insluitend twee 100-talle, drie 50-talle en ‘n telling van 204 nie uit nie. Op sy beurt het die Stanfordiaan, Lance Truman, die penne laat wapper met sy uitmuntende linkerarm swaaiboulwerk. Tydens die toernooi het Truman ‘n totaal van 26.1 beurte geboul en slegs 2.83 lopies per beurt afgestaan. Sy beste vertoning was teen die Suid-Westelike Distrikte waar hy 5/17 geboul het om as Speler van die Wedstryd aangewys te word.
