Although the young men all had a strong athletic background, it was visibly apparent that neither of them were swimmers as they struggled with the various swimming exercises. Two people were killed and two more seriously injured when a Huyndai SUV collided with a LDV at the Tarentaalrand/R71 intersection. This section of the R71 between Tzaneen and Gravelotte is notorious for road accidents. This accident took last week’s road death toll in Mopani to six people in less than 36 hours. Four students died the previous day in a taxi accident not far from the Eiland holiday resort. “I use this stretch of road daily and this section is especially dangerous as it is the only part of the road where traffic officials don’t trap motorists,” said a bystander. “Motorists know exactly where the traffic cops sit.” A member of a local security company speculated that the accident may have been due to driver negligence and appears to have been a head-on collision, as both vehicles were on the same side of the road. The LDV was transporting vegetables and the road was strewn with produce from the impact of the col-
