Goeie nuus, veral as dit groei en ontwikkeling wat gepaard gaan met kapitale belegging behels, is deesdae maar skaars. Vir Tzaneen is daar ‘n stukkie goeie nuus van ‘n prag-behuisingontwikkeling. Volgende week sal die Bulletin volledig hieroor berig, met ‘n terreinplan wat enige mens se verbeelding aangryp, plus nog illustrasies van hoe die behuising sal lyk. Die ontwikkelaar van die projek (langs die Tzaneendam) was nog dié week besig met finale afronding deur argitekte en ander betrokkenes, aan die finale voorkoms en spesifikasies. Ons het die versekering dat dit volgende week betyds vir aanstaande Vrydag se koerant gereed sal wees. Grondverskuiwingswerk is reeds volstoom op die terrein aan die gang.

Wat nou van ons vlei? Die berg grond agter die Sasol R71-vulstasie langs die hoofingang na Tzaneen is stuk-stuk aan die verdwyn en dié terrein sal glo eersdaags weer ooglik lyk — intussen is daar egter ‘n handvol vrae wat onbeantwoord bly, oor die betrokke owerhede se goedkeuring dat die grond in die vleiland gestort word. ‘n Groot deel van die grond word op persele langs die kante van die bestaande stroompie in die vleiland gestort en naasliggende erwe word daarmee opgevul.. Vrese dat die stukkie vleiland vir die dorp verlore is, is dié week deur mense na aan die projek besweer. Agter die Sasol-vulstasie gaan die vleiland glo met inheemse plantegroei gerehabiliteer word, terwyl die stroompie van die bopunt by die Adshade-brug af gekanaliseer sal word. Die mede-eienaar van die Sasol, me Willemien Röttger, kon nie met ons praat nie, maar sy het deur haar bestuurder laat weet dat hulle ‘n opdrag (direktief) van die departement van water en sanitasie gekry het, om die vleibedding na behore te herstel. Die verwydering van die hoop grond is deel van die opdrag en word op die oomblik deur die kontrakteur Quality Plant Hire gedoen. Inmiddels sê mnr Dawie le Roux, die eienaar van ‘n bande-onderneming op die oewer, hy het reeds met werk aan die bopunt van die stroompie begin, om die gebied te verfraai. ‘n Deel van die Adshade-brug se helling aan die

Briewe Where are the watchdogs? Bernard Nel, Harry Dilley Street, Tzaneen, writes: The Case For Claude Wheatley Street: Millions of rand have been thrown at Claude Wheatley Street to address the sensitive eco system of the Letaba River front and reparation of the road itself. However no single amount of money as far as I know changed the values of the people responsible for the rapid deterioration of the vicinity concerned. If ever a name change was called for, it is for Claude Wheatley to be renamed to Mark Shoppe. But I am convinced that even the spirit of Mark Shoppe will be restless out there. I think the authorities should consider not naming the street at all. The lawlessness that strangles effective flow of traffic is not limited to the infamous taxi brigade. South African Breweries, Coca Cola Fortune and other delivery trucks use the pavements as parking for their heavy duty vehicles. This is the main cause of the fence being vandalized. One would expect the local authority to address the deteriorating conditions. Not so? Unfortunately not. They are too busy playing their self-enriching political games at the expense of the taxpayer and those in the villages without running water. If one should make a distinction between the Claude Wheatley chaos and the characteristics of the people in charge of the local authority you would find that there is none. The chaos in Claude Wheatley is a mirror image of what is happening in the centre of local government and most likely their private lives. But what can be said about the watchdogs? It is coming to you now. Taxpayer? Letaba Herald? Chamber of commerce? DA caucus? Yes, you are right. More questions than answers. Idly standing by and in the case of Letaba Herald, taking advertising money from the local government for not being too vocal about the mess on our doorsteps. Some people would say it is tantamount to being paid to lie by omission. What a sorry state of affairs. By far the majority of taxpayers in Tzaneen are good honest people. Trying to make a good honest living. Caring for the poor. Looking after their properties and taking pride in it. Praying for the thieves in control of the local budget. But when asked to resist against an inept government who is steadily eroding the growth of their most important investment, they suddenly turn into a pathetic bunch of coach potatoes testing the effectiveness of their remote controls. The most recent scandal at PRASA suddenly forced it’s ugly head into my memory and I cannot help but think what is really going on behind the doors of the local government. I wonder what will happen to the value of spinach if it is to become the official currency of our country. One thing is for sure, before contemplating throwing it at problems like Claude Wheatley it will be consumed, leaving us with no alternative than to accept the status quo. Is that what we want?

Nou ewe skielik word daar kamtig gewerk. Want die munisipale verkiesing kom vinnig nader. Ons sê vandag vir die GTM se klomp lustelose raadslede wat in groot gemak op die soustrein ry: Julle bluf ons nie. En julle het rede om bekommerd te wees, want julle bluf ook nie die mense wat nou al jare lank met dienslewering afgeskeep word nie. Die afrekeningsdag is aan die kom.

Die sindroom is ‘n siekteverskynsel wat meebring dat die gevangene op boosheid verlief raak, alhoewel die gevangene besef dat dit niks
goeds kan inhou nie. Ek is bevrees dat die Stockholmsindroom as ‘n siekteverskynsel die laaste tyd oral in ons land uitslaan. Vrees, geldgierigheid en eie-belang laat mense hul Christelike beginsels prysgee en boosheid omhels. Mense raak verlief op boosheid, alhoewel dit vir hulle niks goeds kan inhou nie. Jesus het Hom oor hierdie verskynsel as volg uitgelaat: “Niemand kan vir twee base tegelyk werk nie. Hy sal of die een minder ag en die ander een hoër, of vir die een meer oorhê en die ander een afskeep. Julle kan nie God en Mammon dien nie” (Matt 6:24). Aardse besittings, gierigheid en eiebelang kry al hoe meer die laaste woord in. Maar ongelukkig is dit ‘n valse sekuriteit wat jou in jou laaste uur in die steek gaan laat. Die Stockholm-sindroom is ‘n siekte wat die boosheid ter wille van die oomblik omhels, en dit verwoes lewens.

‘n Groep geesdriftige jong boere van die Suider-Afrika Konfederasie vir Landbou-unies (SACAU) het Tzaneen dié week besoek om kennis oor dié gebied se boerderypraktyke op te doen. Hulle boer onder meer in Mosambiek, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana en Namibië. Die plaaslike span wat die besoek gelei het, is mnre Kobus de Beer (Ofcolaco), Benito Eliasi (SACAU), Zander Ernst (Allesbeste Boerdery), dr Theo de Jager (SACAU se president), mnre Linhu Ngwekhulu (AgriSA) en Willem van Jaarsveld (AgriLimpopo).

Art teacher in top40 finalists of art awards Ms Karin Obojkovits, Stanford Lake College’s head of visual arts, has been shortlisted in the top40 for the Sanlam Portrait Award — a competition that is held every two years. There were approximately two thousand entries for this year’s competition. The winner will be announced at a gala evening to be held in a famous gallery in Cape Town tonight (Friday). The top40 portraits will be exhibited at the Gallery until 8 October. Obojkovits painted her entry in watercolour.

Ms Chelsea Johnston, a born Capetonian, has a degree in Business Communication and Marketing and is doing a postgraduate course in education for English and Business Economics. She will be teaching English Home Language. Mr Drikus Viljoen hails from a family of educators and studied at Potchefstroom. He has been appointed as the hostel father, also teaching Technology and will be in charge of school discipline from 2016. He is a keen rugby coach and is already involved in the Rhino 7’s to be hosted at the Kruger National Park.

Sy werk is nou beloon met die spogkudde waaruit die 43 bulle geselekteer is om verkoop te word. Die veiling word by

Good news for the citrus industry was received from Europe, when the Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) expressed their satisfaction with the way in which SA citrus has applied its risk management system against citrus black spot (CBS). The FVO is an independent EU commission service, tasked with food safety and plant health. They carry out audits and inspections to ensure that EU legislation is properly implemented and enforced. According to the Citrus Growers Association the FVO team found that the national plant protection office has strengthened its export procedures. The report enhances the likelihood of stable and predictable trade conditions for SA citrus exporters to the EU. The industry has gone to great lengths to ensure compliance with
EU requirements, at enormous cost. SA citrus employs about 100 000 people and exports account for 80% of its R9,4 billion revenue, 40% of which is from exports to the EU.

Correctional Services pampered new babies The Correctional Services Centre (CSC) in Tzaneen extended a caring hand when they donated baby clothing, blankets and toiletries to new born babies born on 19 August, to honour Women’s Day and Women’s Month at Van Velden Hospital. Simply Installing Dado Rails
1. Mark the desired position of the dado rail on the walls. The height you select should not be much higher than a metre from the floor. The height of a picture rail is usually about 300-500mm below the ceiling cornice. Using a spirit level, rotating it as you go, draw a line around the room. 2. You can buy adhesives to fix timber such as picture and dado rails. Just apply the adhesive with a sealant gun. Always follow the instructions for correct usage.
Dado and picture rails can give a room a lift and also added practicality as you can suspend items from them. Both types of rail are easy to fix to the walls. Tools required: Mitre Block Tenon Saw Wood Bits Tape Measure Screwdriver Drill

3. In the case of plastered brickwork, use steel nails and knock below surface using a punch. Fill the nail holes afterwards with a matching filler. If the surface is too hard for steel nails, nylon wall plugs can be used. 4. Two pieces of rail can be joined together by means of mitring on a 45 degrees angle and fixing the first piece. Mitre the second piece to fit perfectly over the first, using a touch of PVA.

5. To cut a dado or picture rail you will need a mitre block and tenon saw or a mitre saw. When joining two pieces at a corner, mitre the ends to make a perfect 90 degrees angle. Check each corner using a square. If not square, you will have to make adjustments to the mitre. 6. Carefully press the dado rail into place, making sure that the dado or picture rail is correctly set, as the markings made. 7. If the corners of your home are perfectly square, you can cut an internal mitre to fit the corners perfectly. Another way to cut two pieces for an internal corner is to cut one piece square-ended and fix it, then scribe the second piece over the first. A scribe is obtained by first cutting an internal mitre. Using a coping saw cut off the mitre leaving just the profile. This should then fit snugly over the first piece. 8. Add an extra bit of strength to an external corner by knocking in a pin or two.

Die huis is op drie vlakke gebou en die ingang is op die tweede vlak, waar die baie mildelike gebruik van hout jou met die intrapslag omarm. Die oopplan-ontwerp bied ‘n uitsig van die voordeur tot die stoep aan die anderkant van die leefruimte, met groot houtbalke oorhoofs wat
mildelik lig en lug aan die vertrekke verskaf. Visser sê met die ontwerp het hy so ‘n tikkie Japannese boustyl ingewerk. Die huis is vierkantig, met ‘n dak wat aan die kante so effens krul. In die proses het sekere style in die ontwerp bygekom wat hy self moes ontwerp. Dit het drie maande geneem om die dak op te rig. Dit is ‘n somerhuis, sê Visser. Klem is gelê op sonlig vir die middelste vlak, terwyl al die slaapkamers op die grondvlak ingerig is vir beskerming teen die warm Tzaneensomers. Die huis is omring deur digte in-
heemse bosveldbome, wat die veiligheidsheining reg rondom vanaf die stoep feitlik onsigbaar laat. ‘n Netjiese gastekothuis tussen die bome is onlangs ingerig, vir paartjies wat oor naweke van die gewoel wil wegkom. Dit staan bekend as Waterbessiebos en is gerieflik ingerig met ‘n dubbelbed, kookgeriewe en ‘n moderne badkamer. Die Vissers bied ook ruimte vir opelug-troues en ander soortgelyke geleenthede vir mense wat graag dié onthale diep in die natuur wil hou. Waterbessiebos-kothuis is terselfdertyd net die regte plek vir die eerste huweliksnag.

Making your home Child safe One out of every four children suffers a preventable injury that requires medical attention, at home. There are things that can be done to prevent these kinds of serious injuries. The key is to keep your child away from “serious and preventable accidents and injuries”. Childproofing does not mean moving breakables to higher shelves. It means locking, securing, relocating or removing anything that may pose
a potential danger to a child. Children are curious and will investigate any “new” object or substance. In the Kitchen and Bathroom: Install “child resistant” locks on all cabinets within the child’s reach. What is child resistant to most children may not be to yours, so don’t assume that with the locks in
place your child is safe. Remove all cleaning fluids and agents from lower storage areas. Very common household items that are generally considered nonpoisonous, if taken in large quantities can kill achild. Some of these items include mouthwash, cosmetics, meat tenderizers and spices. Keep all medications inside a cabinet that is locked with a key. Keep the key where the child cannot reach it. Many child care experts recommend clearing out a lower kitchen cabinet and placing in toys, plastic containers or other safe items for the child to play
with when he/she wants to be with mum or dad in the kitchen. Keep all electrical and phone cords bundled and out of reach. When cooking, turn pot handles to the back of the stove. Do not use tablecloths. Never leave a small child alone in the bathtub for even “just a second”. In other areas of the home: Install covers over all electrical outlets. Install smoke alarms on all levels of your home. Place gates at stairways - top and bottom. Lift blind and drapery chords out of reach of children. Use specially designed door stops and knobs that prevent children from opening forbidden doors. Many houseplants are toxic.

Two suspects aged 28 and 34 were arrested by the Maake Police along the R36 between Lenyenye and Tzaneen, after they had been caught transporting stolen (beef) meat. The arrests took place at about 03:00 at night when Police officers were on a
www.bulletin.us.com routine patrol. They spotted two suspicious vehicles amongst some bushes next to the road. Two light delivery vehicles were found with the meat of sixteen head of cattle. One suspect ran away, but he was later on arrested after a massive search in the bushes. The officers asked for back-up from the Police Station and while they were waiting for help, a large number of people from Sekororo arrived and demanded the arrested suspect to be released immediately, so that they could “kill him”. The people said that he was one of the suspects who are terrorising them with stock theft. The Police, however, left with the suspect and the two vehicles were then set alight. Some meat was off loaded. The suspects have been identified and they will appear in the Naphuno Magistrate’s Court on charges of stock theft. Cases of malicious damage to property of the vehicles were also opened, but no arrests have been made thus far. Police investigations continue.

Clamp down on prostitutes in Tzn Police in Tzaneen have arrested 56 women between the ages of 21 and 42 engaged in prostitution last week. If convicted on charges of prostitution, each suspect could face time in prison and first offenders could be fined a maximum of R500. “The reason why we arrested more this month is because we are working on a target; if we arrest ten people for gambling in August 2015, we must achieve the same in August 2016,” said Tzaneen Police Communication Officer Const Glenda

Why use an adviser when getting financial advice? Let us look at the definition of “financial advice”
Advice of a financial nature, however, also refers to short term insurance and all advisers are bound by the FAIS Code of Conduct which unequivocally states that advice of a financial nature should be given without bias, to the best interest of the client and with due diligence and care. Those that used a financial adviser made better provision for retirement, had better cover in respect of life, disability, short term insurance and medical cover. 2. 74% of the group with advisers had updated there wills in the past 24 months in comparison to only 51% of those without. 3. 77 percent of the group with advisers had an emergency fund compared to 56%. Vyf Tzaneeners kwalifiseer vir SA’s: is vir Limpopo ser Western Mounted Anri en Wandri Janse van Rensburg en Theo, Genevieve en Hannes van der Merwe het aan ‘n kwalifiserende ronde vir die SA kampioenskappe in Warmbad deelgeneem. Al vyf ruiters het baie goed gevaar en Sjoe! Dit was byna ‘n kopskoot! Lorinda Engelbrecht, een van die Laerskool Tzaneen se topmeisie-hokkiespelers is hier in volle aksie deur die kameralens betrap en bevestig die oorgawe waarmee gespeel word. Dit gaan sover vanjaar baie goed met die Laerskool Tzaneen se hokkie. Hulle het Vrydag teen die Laerskool Dr Annecke te staan gekom, in hul jaarlikse

Both the junior and senior girls’ soccer players from Stanford Lake College played in their third Polokwane Central Schools’ Football League match against Mitchell House. Both games were top of the range. The players displayed their skills and entertained the spectators. The junior girls played excellent football and won their game 3-0; while the seniors were very unfortunate to draw their game 2-2 in an exciting match. The Boys played against Eagles’ Nest. The juniors dominated both halves and created lots of golden opportunities, but failed to convert them into goals. They ended up losing 1-0. The senior boys, coached by Mr Akani Baloyi, played exceptionally well. They won 6-2 through persistent effort and positive follow-through of opportunities, converting them into great goals.
