Undiluted political tittle-tattle Accusations of big amounts of money being wasted by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on staff and litigation culminated in biting words being used by the GTM’s spokesperson, Mr Neville Ndlala (photo), in a media statement. The first allegations apparently surfaced in a Facebook entry on Tuesday or Wednesday last week and was followed up by a local community newspaper, that printed a report re-
ferring to the allegations on their front page. Ndlala says inaccurate statements with no factual basis whatsoever have been made, and he names a GTM councillor as the source of these allegations. He adds that quarterly financial statements, annual reports and other documents (reports) are available for people to get a picture that is not blurred by any biased political interpretation or propaganda.
The Limpopo Department of Health has confirmed that its psychiatric ward is being renovated, after it was damaged by a fire on 29 October last year. Patients have since been moved to neighbouring hospitals, Van Velden, Kgapane and Dr CN Phatudi. According to the department’s spokesperson, Mr Macks Lesufi, a contractor is on site and renovations are underway. He said that patients are still in the care of their nurses who are working from the designated hospitals. “A private contractor, which we cannot disclose, is busy with the renovations at the hospital’s psychiatric ward. Patients are still with their care givers who are assisting from the three hospitals mentioned”, he told Bulletin. Lesufi also said that the scope of work to be done at the hospital will require an additional two months before the ward can be fully renovated, meaning that renovations can be expected to

Ndlala also points out in his statement that the GTM works according to the law as far as the suspension of the municipal manager is concerned; and before the appointment of a new municipal manager could be considered. It is not clear if this war of words will extend to a next round of allegations and counter allegations. The GTM’s comment, as per Ndlala, can be read (verbatim) on page 3.

be complete by June latest. “We will afford the contractor an additional two months from now, to complete the renovations”, he said. The cost of the renovations is estimated at around R4 million. Bulletin also took time to find out, from the Police, about the unidentified body that was found in the debris of the fire and as to how far they are with investigating the cause of the fire. Limpopo’s Police spokesperson, Lt Col Ronel Otto, said that investigations are continuing but could not confirm as to the forensic findings and what the cause of the fire was. She did, however, promise to shed more insight on the accident once investigations are complete. “At this point we cannot confirm the details of this accident as investigations are still ongoing. We will keep the media posted on any developments”, she said. — Elliot Mathye elliot@bulletin.us.com
