Die slang is in die kantoorkompleks in Peacestraat waar onder andere dr JeanMarie Joynt, Cook for Life, die SA Bloeddiens en ander sake gevestig is, deur mnre Chris Gouws en Sam Shiviri van Northern Security om die lewe gebring. Inwoners word gewaarsku dat slange na die versengende hitte na die dorp kon “gevlug” het.
Time bomb
The fire function of the Mopani District Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services is in such a poor state that it is being referred to as a ticking time bomb. Vehicles and equipment are in such a bad condition and so old that they can no longer be called serviceable. There is also a critical shortage of fire fighting and rescue staff and it is said that Mopani will not be able to survive a major crisis. To add insult to injury, the MDM is also in dire straits as far as money is concerned and staff have not been paid yet for January (they were supposed to have their salaries in their bank accounts on Friday 23 January). At the centre of the crisis is the MDM’s controversial municipal manager, Mr Tim Maake. His immediate suspension is now demanded by workers of the MDM.
