MDM stays mum on Tim The Mopani District Municipality remains mum on the outcome of their intention to suspend their municipal manager, Mr Tim Maake. The MDM council’s intention to suspend Maake came after the MDM had identified certain alleged contraventions of regulations and negligence on certain issues by Maake. He was allowed seven days to say why he should not be suspended. On the seventh day he asked for a further extension before replying to the intention of the council. Bulletin inquired again on Wednesday about the situation and we were informed by the MDM’s spokesperson, Mr Tumelo Malaka, that until a council meeting is held, no comment is possible. “We are waiting for council’s announcement on the matter. We cannot be drawn into any discussion of the matter until council has had a meeting,” he said. Elliot Mathye elliot@bulletin.us.com

Residents of Hlohlokwe village, Bolobedu, engaged in a fight for better service delivery from both the Mopani District Municipality (MDM) and the Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM). They have blockaded roads since last week Friday. The closure of the roads disrupted many services in the area and emergency medical service vehicles were forced to turn back while trying to access the area to transport patients.

The main community grievances included the building of a school, construction of a road between Mokwakwaila and Mawa and fixing boreholes in the area to deliver much needed water. The parties have since agreed that barricaded road would be opened to allow municipal workers to access the areas where the identified challenges should be addressed. A task team from both municipalities was called to address the community on how they plan to deal with the current ser-

vices, and how to improve service delivery. MDM mayor Nkakareng Rakgoale has thanked the community for allowing them to further engage with the community and promised that all the issues that needed urgent attention will be resolved within a short period of time. She apologised for inconvenience caused, as well as for misunderstandings. “We are willing to work with the community and we expect maximum cooperation as it is our responsibility to deliver these services. Let us adhere to the time frames agreed upon and ensure that all these matters are dealt with in a respectable manner,” she said. Meanwhile, parts of Giyani are without water. The main pipeline in the area burst and the supply had to be turned off. According to MDM spokesperson Tumelo Malaka the problem is receiving the urgent attention of the joined team from the MDM, Lepelle North Water and the appointed service provider. “The pipe will need a total overhaul and will take the team at least four days to restore the water supply in the area. The following areas will be heavily affected: Giyani Township D2, Section F, Mountain View, Kremetart, as well as Ngove, Dzingidzingi and Sekhunyani villages”. Malaka said the affected areas will be provided with water from tankers for as long as it takes to fix the pipe line. —Elliot Mathye elliot@bulletin.us.com
