Matlou pushed into wilderness Axed Mopani District Mayor Joshua Matlou
A group of ANC members took to Facebook over the last week, to express their frustration at axed Mopani District Municipality (MDM) mayor Joshua Matlou, for allegedly refusing to resign. Sources within the party claimed that Matlou has not yet tendered his resignation as mayor. ANC regional secretary Basikopo Makamu said that Matlou’s letter of resignation was received and that they are awaiting the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) appointment procedure in order to inaugurate Ms Nkakareng Rakgoale as the new MDM mayor. The MDM’s speaker will issue
Nkakareng’s date of inauguration, added Makamu. Matlou is said to remain as a PR councillor. SA Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) provincial secretary Simon Mathe said that “Matlou will be missed for his openness”. However, when it was announced by the ANC that Matlou had been recalled, it was openly said that his recall was as a result of underperformance. ANC Provincial Secretary Knocks Seabi then said “this kind of intervention is aimed at strengthening the functioning and political management of the different municipal councils and improve the management of
ANC councillors’ performance in these councils”. The ANC also said in a statement they were recalled after considering the weaknesses, challenges and successes in their respective municipalities Seabi further said the ANC will also restructure a Political Management Team in the MDM. Nadat Vlieg die laaste keer berig het uit Salvador, is hy Belo Horizonto toe vir die slagting. Nee, omdat die Dorslandtrekkers van 1902 intussen so aangeteel het, Vlieg kon met die Argentyne Afrikaans praat. Net soos die Boere maar is, het die Argentyne nie intussen hul les geleer om nie met Europese lande skoor te soek nie. Suspended GTM manager faces undisclosed charges
Suspended Greater Tzaneen Municipality manager, Mr Masiye Mankabidi, has finally been charged. This was confirmed after consultation with the GTM in order to establish what charges he would be facing, and when. The decision to suspend Mankabidi came during a special council meeting on 4 April. He was suspended pending an investigation against him as per regulations Mr Masiye Mankabidi
governing disciplinary procedure for senior managers. The charges relate to his involvement in the handling of the construction of tar roads at Sasekani to Nkowankowa, Senakwe to Morapalala and Thapane to Murutji. According to GTM spokesperson Neville Ndlala, the details of the charges against the municipal manager cannot be revealed, since the matter is sub judice and council will not want to infringe on the rights of the

municipal manager. “Mr Obby Mkhonto, the director: community services of the GTM, has been appointed to act as municipal manager for a period not exceeding three months. A motorcyclist cheated death when his motorbike collided with a passenger car near Oasis Lodge in Giyani. According to witnesses, the biker was maybe driving too fast and didn’t see the car making a turn onto the road. The impact of the collision caused the biker to land about twenty metres from the scene. He was later taken to hospital with a broken leg and hand. The driver of the car, a woman in her late 40’s, did not sustain any visible injuries. Giyani Police Insp Thomas Makhubele said a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.

Behind bars Over the past week Ritavi police arrested 32 suspects: thirteen who were involved in possession of dagga, an unlicensed firearm, assault, malicious damage to property and drinking in public. Police held sixteen more people for attempted murder, rape, housebreaking, murder and traffic offences.
Various offences Police in Bolobedu apprehended fourty people involved in various offences over the past week. Police held eleven people involved in burglary, malicious damage to property, assault, reckless driving and possession of an illegal firearm. More suspects of rape, robbery, murder, theft and possession of dagga were arrested, while 21 others were caught for illegal gambling and drinking in public. Const Rebotile Shai of the Bolobedu SAPS expressed concern at a growing number of housebreaking and theft incidents in the area. She urges residents to close their doors and windows at night. When leaving for holiday, house owners must ask their neighbours or friends to look at their property, added Shai.
Culprits faced consequences Over the past week 97 culprits who engaged in criminal activities in Tzaneen and surrounding areas were faced with harsh consequences. Police caught 74 people for traffic offences, prostitution, possession of counterfeit goods, Liquor Act offences and drinking in public. Elsewhere nine people were held for theft, arson, rape and fourteen others for shoplifting, robbery, assault and possession of drugs.
Murder suspects caught Four murder suspects involved in the attack on Lt Yezindaba Meshack Skhathi (54) and Const Carrol Machaba (35) about two weeks ago while on official duty in Petanenge, Ritavi, have been arrested. Two suspects allegedly shot and killed Lt Skhathi and fled with his firearm, while Const Machaba was left unharmed. One of the four suspects, Teffe Malangana (23) was caught in Johannesburg, Lazarus Moseamedi (25) and David Malatjie (33) in Tzaneen, while a fourth suspect was held

The fourth suspect is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon. The three others have already appeared in Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms. The hearing has been remanded.

Giriyondo border gate in KNP
Cross-border business operators who transport passengers in non-designated passenger vehicles (such as LDV’s also known as bakkies) to and from Mozambique through the Giriyondo and Pafuri border gates in KNP will have to opt for other routes. KNP will be issuing Passenger Transport Permits effective from 1 August 2014, designated for communities residing in the Limpopo National Park (LNP) in Mozambique, who work in SA and often make use of the two border gates going home. According to the park’s GM for communications
and marketing, Mr William Mabasa, the introduction of the permits follows the recent signing of an agreement between the country and cross border transport agencies in SA and Moz. “People are seen bundled onto the back of LDV’s with canopies that provide very little protection,” explained Mabasa, saying the restriction would ensure that people get transported in regulated public transport. He said the two border gates were meant to afford tourists to travel freely between KNP and LNP in Mozambique, without having to exit the parks. “The routes for these border gates are classified as tourist roads, and not for commercial traffic… the idea is to encourage people to travel from one national park to another,” he continued. Application forms for the permits are available at Phalaborwa, Pafuri and Punda Maria Gates. Beesmisdam bedreig Letabarivier ‘n Lywige plaasdam vol beesmis lê langs ‘n systroom by Yamorna en wag vir Tzaneen se reënseisoen om die inhoud van sy buik in die Groter Letabarivier uit te stort. Dit kan ‘n groot gemors afgee en die rivier se reeds besoedelde water verder verswak, maan boere in die omgewing. Een van die boere, mnr Chris Ras, sê dit was eens ‘n doeltreffende waterbron vir die plaas langs syne. Die dam was gebruik vir besproeiing en om water na ‘n hoogliggende reservoir te pomp, maar die pompe en
pype is reeds ‘n paar jaar gelede deur diewe weggedra en die eens bewerkte grond lê nou braak. Die afgelope drie jaar het ‘n beesboer van Letsitele, mnr Juan Maré, grond net bokant die dam gehuur en ‘n voerkraal vir beeste ingerig. Die stank in die omgewing het egter so erg geraak dat Ras hom uiteindelik oortuig het om pad te gee. Maré het ‘n maand of wat gelede sy beeste na Letsitele verskuif. Nou lê drie jaar se beesmis en oorskiet uit die voerkraal in die dam, sê Ras. Hy het vertoë gerig tot die inspekteur

Die Bulletin het twee weke gelede oor die groot lekkasie berig, nadat ‘n besoeker aan die steenmakery, mnr André Albertyn, daarop afgekom het. Uit die fotomateriaal was dit duidelik dat die riool reeds ‘n geruime tyd daar in die rivier vloei. Dit is reg onder een
van die dorp se rioolpompstasies. Dit vloei daarvandaan tot in die Groter Letabarivier, wat reeds gebuk gaan onder gereelde besoedeling en ‘n gevaar vir mense en die landbou verder aan inhou. Albertyn het monsters van die water geneem om dit vir e-coli te laat toets. Dit kon egter nie plaaslik gedoen word nie en moes na Polokwane vir ontleding gestuur word. Hy wag nog op die uitslag. • Mnr Ndlala, hoe lank gaan die ondersoek nog duur? Dis nou twee weke later! En waar is die GTM se inspekteurs? Of is dit maar reg as die rou riool in die rivier loop? — Redakteur
Pasop vir dié gladdebek Bedrieërs se bevolkingsaanwas groei ook in ‘n ontstellende tempo. ‘n “Ou bekende” in Tzaneen is terug in die Laeveld en dié swendelaar teer steeds op die goedgelowigheid van niksvermoedende mense. Hy “werk” onder twee name: Koos Bergman, soms Gert Bergman. Hy is Afrikaanssprekend en slagoffers sê sy stem en manier van praat laat hulle dink hy is tussen vyftig en sestig jaar oud. Maar dit is raaiwerk... Bergman het pas ‘n winkel in Makhado wat buitelug- en kampeertoerusing verkoop gevang en die skade beloop so R50 000! Sy werkwyse is bekend: iemand besoek ‘n winkel/besigheid en maak seker dat die mense in die winkel weet dat die “iemand” daar was. Hy kry ‘n naam of name van winkelsassistente, na wie hy verwys as hy inbel om iets te bestel. Dan kom die versoek om die bestelling êrens af te lewer, sodra bewys van betaling deur elektroniese oorplasing van die geld bevestig is. In die jongste geval is die goed in Pretoria by ‘n Caltex-vulstasie aan ‘n verteenwoordiger van Bergman gelewer. Maar... die bewys van die oorplasing was ‘n vervalsing en daar is geen geld in die leweransier se bankrekening gestort nie. En nou is Bergman eers weer stil. Hy
beantwoord nie sy telefoon nie; druk net dood en as mens die werker op dié se selfoon bel, maak hy of hy nie weet wie Koos Bergman is nie. ‘n Privaat speurder is intussen ook gehuur om Bergman op te spoor en die speurder se ondersoek het die spreekwoordelike kan wurms oopgemaak. Bergman, het dit aan die lig gekom, is ‘n ou hand in die bedryf en mag moontlik deel wees van ‘n landwye sindikaat wat mense besteel. Dit lyk of hy in elke dorp wat hy teiken, ‘n informant plaas. Dié doen verkenningswerk by maatskappye en bekom kontakbesonderhede. Dit het ook aan die lig gekom dat Bergman al talle ondernemings in Middelburg, Bronkhorstspruit, Tzaneen en nou Makhado met ‘n slap riem gevang het. Bergman het glo twee seuns, Ricardo en Brandon, wat dalk saam met hul pa werk. Hulle skakel van 012 771 3656 en die informant se selfoonnommer is 072 023 5070. Die rivier-muur
Oor die afgelope sewe jaar het die Bulletin ook meedoënloos die fokus van Tzaneen se gemeenskap op die besoedeling van die Letabarivier deur die dorp gerig. Ons is dus met reg ook dankbaar dat iets nou gedoen is (teen R1 miljoen) om die kosbare water van die Letaba skoner te hou. Dit is net jammer dat dit nie anders kon gewees het nie: iets soos ‘n park op die oewer van die rivier, waar mense die natuur en die blink water om ‘n piekniekmandjie en op ‘n grondseiltjie of kombers kon gaan geniet het! Maar ons leef mos in onveiligheid waar ons agter duiwelsvurkheinings en doringdraad moet skuil. Nietemin. Ons het mense lukraak gaan voorkeer en gevra wat hulle van die betonheining dink (kyk op bl 7). Veral twee ontstellende dinge het uitgekom: 1. Mense wat sê “die water van die rivier behoort aan almal en kan nie deur die GTM beheer word nie”. Wat ‘n mistasting. Dit dui op die onverskilligheid en onkunde van mense ten opsigte van ons land se water, wat so skaars en kosbaar is. Dit sê nou duidelik dat mense nog steeds opgevoed moet word oor ons waterbronne se beskerming en die GTM sal hierna moet kyk, want daar word op groot skaal met water in sommige gebiede gemors. 2. Mense is in die algemeen swartgallig oor hoe lank dit sal neem voor deurgange in die betonheining gebreek gaan word. Dissipline en respek is so swak en min en wetstoepassing is so lamlendig dat mense wetteloosheid nie meer as ‘n probleem aanvaar nie. Swak, Piketberg!

Lede van die Working on Fire se High Altitude Team (HAT) het Woensdag soos wafers spinnekoppe by die Mopani Distriksmunisipaliteit se Rampbeheersentrum in Tzaneen teen die brandweer se oefentoring uitgeklim. Die Bulletin se waarneming Woensdag was dat die span se lede heel bedrewe is, trots is op hul werk en dit geniet, die gevaar van hoogtes ten spyt. Dit was ook opvallend hoe manhaftig en vaardig die vrouelede nie ‘n halwe tree vir hul manlike kollegas terug gedeins het nie.
How often do we expect the church to comply with what it is mandated to do? The church as a body of Christ is expected to baptise, confirm, marry and bury a person. But who is the church? Is it just those who are ordained, the clergy, or is it all of the congregants as well? How often do we expect the church to carry out these rituals yet we have or play a little part in the life of the church. It is often been said “I don’t have to go to church to be a Christian” then am I really a part of the church and therefor can I insist that these rituals be performed? Yes it is the church’s duty to see to the spiritual well- being of people, in the broader sense of the word. Yet it is up to us as individuals to form part of this “training”, to seek enlightenment from those trained as church leaders. Often personal likes and dislikes play a major role in our attendance at church, yet why should we go to church? It is not to honour the preacher or the worship leaders. It is to pay homage and honour to God. When we set aside our differences and concentrate on God and God alone then we find upliftment for our spirits, for it is God alone who should be given the glory and not the individual. Therefore, I believe that before we can expect all the services offered by the church we need to be part of it. Many a time I have heard the ministers berated for not being willing to carry out some ritual or the other, but how can they rightly perform these rituals if they have little or no knowledge of the actual person for whom these services are requested. Perhaps we all should re-assess our priorities. Blessings.
Strategise the hunt for employment
During economically difficult times finding a job can be tough, whether you have just graduated, were recently retrenched, or just want to change jobs. The challenges associated with finding employment are probably more daunting to first time job seekers, who do not know the jobsearch landscape and don’t know what to expect, but the search should be treated as a journey, not a series of attempts. “Finding a job is a process, and it is important that this process is backed by a strategy. It is also worth remembering that, while you are searching for a job, the search is and should be treated as your job,” says Erna Kruger, Head of Programme at The Independent Institute of Education (IIE), SA’s largest and most accredited private higher education provider. Kruger says that during the process of looking for and securing a position, one could find wonderful opportunities you never imagined, and therefore it was necessary to keep an open mind. “It is important that you set goals for yourself when searching for that perfect position,” says Kruger. “These goals may include, for instance, searching and applying for ten to fifteen jobs per week until you find full time employment. It is also very beneficial to register your CV with employment agencies or using online employment services to search and apply for jobs that you are genuinely enthusiastic about. However, make sure that you are qualified for the job, otherwise your CV will

easily end up in the bin and not be considered again.” While conducting your job search, it is also an opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills, says Kruger. “Start to get used to an 8 hour working day, by devoting a large chunk of the day to your search, and by optimally using the other hours available to you ”she says. “You could consider getting additional qualifications in the career field you are interested in, or do short learning programmes that would further enhance your standing in a particular field. Higher Education institutions such as The IIE, for instance, offer a wide range of career focussed qualifications which can be attended as a full time, part time or distance student. They also offer short learning programmes that may add considerable weight to your CV.” Kruger says that there are also many resources available to assist job hunters, such as www.theworldofwork.co.za - a free web-based resource that help graduates prepare themselves to make the best of the application and interview process, as well as help them put their best foot forward in their first job. “These kinds of resources could make all the difference in ensuring that you set yourself apart from other candidates,” she says. Options also include taking up other opportunities, such as doing an internship, part-time work, freelance work and volunteer work in the field you want to work in.

The river: And so say all(?) of us The Greater Tzaneen Municipality, in an effort (at long last) to prevent or at least minimise pollution of the Letaba River on its winding route through Tzaneen have erected a concrete security fence on the river bank. The main culprits, the so-called bush mechanics, have been moved to a tarred area in the free trading zone. Other squatters and illegals occupying the river Dorica Malatjie area will also be dealt with, according to the GTM. The sangoma will be moved, but it has not been announced yet when and whereto he will be moved. Bulletin’s Elliot Mathye took to the streets to get the thoughts of the public on the new arrangement. He asked the pressing question: Do you think the security fence will protect the river area sufficiently? This is what the people had to say: Dorica Malatjie: I think that the wall is a great idea. They should remove any illegal people operating alongside that road. It will be good, as it will also keep Tzaneen clean. Steve Malatjie: No, they must not move the mechanics. Let

If the GTM should allow the bush mechanics to operate near that river, it would mean anyone could just trade wherever they like. Hannes Meintjies: It is a 50/50 situation here; I can say the fence is a good idea, but it will not take long before vandalism takes place. It is obvious that those against the fence will break it or jump over it. So it’s really a waste of money. Cristina Smit: Yes, this is a good initiative by the GTM. The river will be free from oil and pollution. It will also minimise people using the river as toilets. Rosina Rapeulwane: I think the fence will be killing business. Those mechanics need to work to feed their children and if they remove them, they will suffer. GTM must allocate them a place to run their business otherwise. Minkateko Nkuna: I think they are helping clean our town. But, I think they can work together with the mechanics not to pollute the river. what will they live of. GTM must at least provide them with jobs and besides, that water by the river belongs to no one. Theo Malungana: I think the GTM and Environmental Health should come up with ways to benefit both the river from no pollution and also get the mechanics to trade in a well hygienic area. So I remain neutral on this. Philip van Heerden: Yes, I support Steve Malatjie the fence. But on the other hand, it is a blame game between the mechanics and GTM. Should the mechanics be removed, they will run out of business and if GTM allows them, the river stays polluted. •In a meeting earlier this week, the hawkers were allocated a new trading spot opposite Choice Supermarket. They have already started operating in their new trading zone. According to GTM spokesperson Neville Ndlala, the kiosks in the area will be removed to make more space available for hawkers and mechanics. Ndlala did not comment on where the buses will move to, but assured that parking space will be made available.

Ichtus Studio celebrates three decades in Tzaneen “I believe architecture is not just a job or a profession, but almost a ‘calling’ - I don’t ‘do’ architecture; I experience it in all its diverse facets and this is not really a philosophical viewpoint at all, as architects touch so many areas of Man.” This is the viewpoint of Mr Koos Visser, principal of Ichtus Studio CC Architects, who celebrates an existence of thirty years in Tzaneen this year. The firm was originally formed in 1984 as Koos Visser Argitek. Through various associations and name changes, it eventually became Ichtus Studio Architects in 1999. It is now the longest practicing architectural firm in Tzaneen and one

of the oldest in Limpopo. It was also one of the first practices to employ CAD (Arplan) as production tool in 1986. Since then they progressed to Genes1s, AutoCAD and Revit. The work of Ichtus Studio spans a wide variety of building types and include administrative, civic, commercial, education, health, industrial, institutional, religious, residential, light steel frame construction, restoration and heritage projects. The emphasis is on practical, cost effective designs, that are aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsive, where “green” is not just a colour, says Koos In 2001 the Limpopo Institute for Architecture awarded the practice with a Merit Award for the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Limpopo (then the University of the North). Koos did not intend becoming an architect, for at school he wanted to be an artist. Once he started to work and train as a draughtsman, he realised there was much more to it and was hooked and eventually did his degree. When he came to Tzaneen in 1978, he realized working for other people was not for him and after a stint as an employee and junior partner, he started his own practice. There were tough times at the beginning, as this occurred during a building recession, but

Councillor becomes DJ A Greater Tzaneen Municipality councillor, Mr Dodo Mushwana, is fast becoming a household name in the local music arena, as he is now ever so often seen spinning the disc at major events in Limpopo. Mushwana, from Nkowankowa, said he decided to develop a love for music about three years ago. He said it helps relieve him of stress. His started his new “music career” when he was invited to DJ during an official opening of the Mzansi Tarven in Nkowankowa, some three years ago. Between then and now he has developed a passion for music “and it is still growing”. Mushwana, unlike others in an uncertain political environment, said he would have something to keep him busy when his political career comes to an end. Dodo Mushwana, better known as DJ Msholozi, is a DJ at the Jembe Tavern, Meropa Casino & Entertainment World in Polokwane every Wednesday night. The community of Shawela village outside Giyani blocked the road linking Giyani and Phalaborwa on Thursday, in protest against the government’s failure to respond to their request for speed breakers on the road. They barricaded the road with logs and rocks and burned tyres. Police later dispersed them. Between 11:00 and 13:00 motorists had to use alternative roads to avoid stone-throwing protesters. The protest evolved after a hit-and-run accident by a speeding car in which a young boy died on the scene and was buried on Sunday by an angry community. Mr David Nkuna, a local resident, said he had lost count on how many people have been killed on this stretch of road. “But they were many. I don’t have the record on hand but we’re losing lives and livestock on this road every now and then because of speeding motorists,” he said.

The economy of Limpopo is in for a welcome boost when about one thousand new job opportunities will be created through a programme called the Reserve Renewal Project. Sekoati said the funding for the project has been allocated by the national department. He also said that there are 22 nature reserves in the province which are owned by communities and managed on behalf of the communities by the state. He added that there are 615 job opportunities at present, to be increased to one thousand. Eco Club Talk on Edible Insects The eating of insects has been an integral part of African culture through the ages. Insects are a good source of protein, vitamins, minerals and essential fats; they are not just a source of nutrition in times of food scarcity, but form an important part of traditional diets. Bronwyn Egan has recently completed her Ph D on the cultural and economic importance of edible insects in the Blouberg area. She identified 29 species of insects eaten in the region; the best-known of which is the mopane worm, actually the caterpillar of an Emperor moth. She will tell us about these and other delicacies, including termites, grasshoppers and stinkbugs (yes, really!) This promises to be a fascinating topic; we will have some samples available for tasting ;-) Bronwyn obtained a BSc Honours degree in Zoology at the University of the Witwatersrand and a Masters degree at the University of Port Elizabeth. After working in the eastern Cape for ten years, Bronwyn and her herpetologist husband Vincent, moved to Limpopo. Merensky bobaas met hokkie in Limpopo! Hokkie by die Hoërskool Merensky is aan die einde van die eerste helfte van die jaar op ‘n hoogtepunt afgesluit, toe die seuns se eerste span en die seuns se o.15’s as Limpopokampioene gekroon is. Die eerstes het in ‘n baie taai halfeindstryd teen Groblersdal Academy gespeel en ongeag verskeie goeie geleenthede om doele aan te teken, het die Plasies nie hul kanse benut nie. Hulle het nogtans met een doel gewen en deurgedring na die eindstryd teen PHS. Die Plasies was vinnig uit die blokke in dié wedstryd en het eerste die doelhok laat bewe, toe Jason Moore met indrukwekkende vaardigheid die telling 1-0 gemaak het. Kort daarna het Rynard de Lange die doel van die seisoen aangeteken en die rustydtelling was 2-0 in die guns van die Plasies. Merensky het puik verdedig in die tweede helfte en net een doel kon verbyglip. Die eindtelling van 2-1 was genoeg om die Plasies as die nuwe Limpopo-wenners te kroon. Merensky se o.15’s het teen Ben Vorster in die Limpopo-liga se halfeindstryd te staan
gekom. Ben Vorster, wat vroeër vanjaar 2-0 teen dié span van Merensky verloor het, was vasberade om die halfeind te wen en was vroeg in die wedstryd sterk op die aanval. Hulle het byna ‘n doel aangeteken en Merensky behoorlik besig gehou. Merensky het egter ‘n sterk teenaanval geloods en kort voor rustyd het JJ Davis die eerste doel vir Merensky tydens ‘n korthoekie aangeteken. In die tweede helfte kon niks en niemand Merensky se momentum stuit nie en nog drie doele is aangeteken — twee deur Wayne Coppen en een deur Estian Botha — om Merensky met ‘n telling van 4-0 na die eindstryd te stuur. In die eindstryd het Merensky teen Ben Viljoen te staan gekom. Vroeër die seisoen het die spanne 3-3 gelykop gespeel en Merensky het geweet dat die herontmoeting ‘n klipharde eindstryd gaan wees. Sydwell Ritshuri is an on-and-off-stage entertainer who is both a radio presenter at Giyani Community Radio (GCR) and a soccer player for Giyani Hot Spurs — a local team that plays in SAFA’s second division league, previously known as the Vodacom League. During the week, he feeds yours ears with news and music and then winds down your weekend with the perfect game of soccer, where he plays both as striker and midfielder. The 28-year-old Ritshuri holds a degree in Communication. “Soccer is my hobby... something that I grew up playing, but journalism is a dream that I’m still nurturing and I hope to achieve what I aim for in journalism,” he said when asked what was closest to his heart. Asked how he balanced working as a news reader and a soccer player for Giyani Hot Spurs, Ritshuri said it was all about time management. “I usually play soccer on weekends, but when time clutches they re-

Giyani All Stars has defended the Greater Giyani Mayoral Trophy for the fifth time successfully after beating N’wamankena All Boys FC 3-0 at the Giyani stadium. They walked away with R15 000 in prize money, soccer kits and soccer balls The tournament, with a price tag of R15 000 for the winners men’s division and R10 000 for the best ladies team, drew a great number of spectators from across the municipality’s thirty wards, including several soccer team owners who had come to scout players to boost their teams. Giyani All Stars added some more fun to the tournament by fielding two young players
around ten years of age for the last twenty minutes of the game. Asked about this, their coach, Neil Twala, said they wanted to give their u.12 players a test of what is happening in a real tournament. “We knew we had won the game, since we were leading by 3-0.
