But we cannot link this case to the march since they were arrested after the march had ended,” he said. One of the demands raised in the memorandum that the secretary of the Malamulele Task Team on Boundaries, Dr Jan Nkuna, read out, was that “Malamulele should be given

the status of being a municipality by 2014,” and that, this should be finalised this year. “We want this issue to be finalised before the end of September this year,” he said, adding that it has been a long time that they have been waiting for the matter to be resolved and that they were now tired and demanded action. Poor service delivery in their area is a major problem. The residents allege that Thulamela municipality was too big, and does not cater for their needs. “Our roads are very poor, and

Malamulele residents (Giyani area) have given the Thulamela municipality a taste of what to expect if their demand of having their own municipality was not met. In a mass march on Monday to their local police station to hand over a memorandum of their thirteen year-old grievance to be given their own municipality, the residents stoned cars and looted shops along the way, despite the presence of the police. Thousands of people around Malamulele came out in numbers to attend the march, resulting in it reaching an uncontrollable stage where protesters smashed and looted anything along their way. A truck that happened to be on the scene had all its windows smashed as its driver pulled out of the vehicle by an emotional crowd. The spokesperson for the Malamulele police said no arrests have been made in connection with the looting or damage to property during

the light masts in our streets are not serviced. Malamulele is said to have 107 villages with an estimated population of above half a million, which is said to be more than enough to justify an independent municipality. In the mean time, Michael Sakuneka reports that about six hundred disgruntled residents of Ward 2 in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s jurisdiction have left the ANC and joined Cope. They say that the GTM has failed to provide basic services such as water, electricity en better roads. They claim that they have been asking for better services since 1994. According to Cope’s Mopani regional secretary, Mr Aubrey Sekhula, “residents in various villages in the ward, like Mawa Block 8, 9 & 12 approached us to join our party”. — Orlando Chauke

Anders as oorle koning Daniël se moderne bende.

“Roep ‘n time-out.

We salute our women • Ons salueer ons vroue

Beth Keller Writer – Tzaneen

Grace Mushwana Farmer – Madidi Poultry

The late Marie de Kock was a great inspiration. She encouraged my love for gardening and flower arrangement. An exceptional woman must inspire others and be courageous. Women’s Day puts us and our achievements in the public eye and helps women stand up for their rights.

My inspiration was my mom, a brave, serious, hardworking, counselor, encourager who died very young. Exceptional women are true to themselves. Women are the mothers of nations and make things happen. They don’t quit. That is why they should be celebrated during Women’s Day.

Hanlie Aucamp Centre Manager – Tzaneen Crossing

Joya Varughese Director/Principal – St George’s College

Marlize Delport Netwerk Bemarkingsbestuurder – Mediclinic Tzaneen

Shaun Mhlongo Admin officer – Dept of Education

I think every woman’s own mother is an inspiration to her. An exceptional woman feels good in her heart and has passion and purpose. Women’s Day is not about pampering women, but serves as a declaration of our aims to end the discrimination against women.

I am inspired by the kindness of mother Teresa and the courage and leadership of Mrs Indira Gandhi. An exceptional woman has a strong mind and kind heart. Celebrating Women’s Day is important, to teach young people that respecting women is one of the cornerstones of any society’s survival.

Graca Machel is my inspiration because of her strong character, humility and charisma. Exceptional women have a strong character, are brave, not afraid to take risks, changes other women’s lives. Women’s Day is a celebration of who we are as women, wonderfully and fearfully made by the Creator.

Thea Coad Co-owner – Caltex Tzaneen

Nontokozo Zwane Agricultural manager – GTM

My mom is my inspiration. She is a strong woman who built something from nothing and will always give me a word of wisdom. Women’s day should be celebrated ten times a year. Women must gather to encourage each other; stronger ones should encourage weaker ones.

I have always been inspired by the late Mother Thembi Xulu, who told me: “You can make a difference, when work needs to be done, when help needs to be given, you can build a world where good things can happen for all of us”. Women’s month raises the voices of many unsung heroines.

These criminal activities were ranging from contravention of the Roads Traffic Act, the Liqour Act, dagga possession, theft and trading without a licence. Police also found half a match box of dagga and the carrier was fined R650. Police investigations related to these crimes are continuing.

Drinking & driving Drinking and driving was more problematic than other crimes in the Maake policing area in the past week. Ten people were arrested for drunkenness, seven for public drinking, five for violating the Roads Traffic Act and three for non compliance of the Liquor Act. Post Office fraudster caught The Maake Police have arrested a 32 yearold suspect who is linked to various cases of fraud which occured in the Trichardtsdal Post Office between May and July this year. Police Spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspect is facing nine cases of fraud. It is alleged that the suspect withdrew cash from Post Office clients’ bank accounts, unnoticed for some time. “The matter came to our attention after some of the people who became victims opened cases at local police stations, when they realized that their money was withdrawn by an unknown person,” Ngoepe said. According to Ngoepe, the suspect might be linked to more similar cases as police investigations are still in progress. The Police are urgently appealing to members of the Sekororo community whose money was mysteriously withdrawn by unknown people to come forward and help police with their investigations. He urged people to call Lt Col Cecil Machimana on 072 5321 725 if they have information. The suspect, Pheane Oscar Mokwena, who worked for the Post Office at Trichardtsdal, appeared in the Naphuno Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was released on R5 000 bail. He will appear again in court on 20 September.

Oproerigheid

St Luke’s Anglican Church

Waarskynlik is daar.

So, geen vroue Predekante of Pastoors nie.

This is beyond ‘disrespect’ Jan Venter (086 262 9769) writes by email: In the story of Sodom and Gomorrah,

Abraham asked the Lord to spare the city if he could find 50 righteous people. God responded to Abraham’s plea, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all .... Genesis 18:16-33. The movie “ Corpus Christi “ is due to be released this June to August. It is a disgusting film set to appear in America later this year which depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals! As a play, it has already been in theatres for a while. It’s called “ Corpus Christi “ which means “The Body of Christ”. It’s a revolting mockery of our Lord. But we Christians can make a difference. That’s why I am sending this e-mail to you. If you do send this around, we just might be able to prevent this film from being shown in South Africa & UK. Let’s stand for what we believe and stop the mockery of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Where do we stand as Christians?

I am forwarding this to all I think will respect and appreciate being informed. Please help us prevent such offences against our Lord. There is no petition to sign, no time limit, or minimum number of people to send this to.. It will take you less than 2 minutes! If you are not interested and do not have the 2 minutes it will take to do this, can you complain if God does not seem to have time for you ...... Imagine what would happen if this film were depicting Mohammad in the same way ... The Islamic world would be in flames! Apparently, however, some regions in Europe have already successfully banned the film. All we need is a lot of prayer and a lot of e-mails. Just get the word out! .... Will God be able to find at least 50 righteous people who are willing to express their concern and voice their opinion against this act of blasphemy?

Why do we as parents and also the church often steer away from discussions on sex especially when dealing with children? How do they learn the correct relationships? Is it because it has always been seen as a personal matter or is it because we ourselves are uninformed? In his book: “The Good and Beautiful Life”, James Bryan Smith, uses a triangle to describe how we should see relationships as far as sex is concerned. The base line represents a relationship with no physical intimacy and no commitment. The two sides rising up to the apex represent the two aspects of a relationship: one, the level of commitment and the other, the level of intimacy. Starting at the bottom, at the base of the triangle is the start of a relationship, notice how far the arms are apart. The level of commitment should always be in relationship to the level of intimacy, thus it is only when the apex is reached that sexual intimacy should be considered and that is when we are married. The only restriction on sexual behaviour these days is that we must never harm or take advantage of another person and sexual activity must always be consensual. We have moved out of our moral ground and thus just accept the norms of society. Let us be more open to our children and discuss sex openly and then only will they be able to make good judgement and hopefully we can be instruments in preventing sexual crimes. This, however, is not an easy task and we need to ask God for guidance. Blessings

“My broer & beste vriend

= Sukses!”

Hul daaglikse verantwoordelikhede is nimmereindigend.

Soccer is alive and well at Merensky Rees Bain and Donavan van Tonder.

Kyle van Tonder

Five fanatically fit learners from Unicorn Prep School who have run all the way into the Limpopo cross country team. Yvonne Botha

Two Plasie athletes, Jana Bekker and Samuel Varrie, were recently selected for the Limpopo Cross Country team. They will compete at the ASA Cross Country Championships in Potchefstroom in September. To qualify, they recently competed in the Limpopo Cross Country championships in Mokopane. Both Samuel, doing six kilometres, and Jana running four, met the criteria for being included in the Limpopo Team.

Merensky’s Soccer teams played against two schools this past week, to maintain their soccer standard. The first game was played on Tuesday where Merensky made a formidable score against Southern Cross from Hoedspruit. The match was a good team building exercise. The next match was played on Thursday against a local school in the Greater Tzaneen area namely Matseutseu High School. Although this match was only a

friendly, it was clear from the kick-off that this would not be a walkover. In the first half the score was tight, with Merensky leading 2-1. Matseuteu’s defence was impeccable and made it difficult for Merensky to break through. But in the second half with the aid of Abdool Moosa, Merensky’s superbooted striker, the ice was broken with him scoring two goals in a row. The final score reflected a solid win for Merensky (4-1). With the season drawing to a close, MHS coaches try to fit in as many matches as possible. Therefore Merensky also played the SAPS in a friendly match. The sport organisers and coaches want to thank the SAP for their willingness to play against us, as well as for their on-going support.

These four young cricketers from Unicorn recently participated in the first round of trials for the Limpopo cricket team and sailed through to the next round (today and tomorrow): Faisal Saleem, Kyle Bain, Wisani Mushwana and Reinhardt Scholtemeyer.

Vossie-krieketspelers presteer

A group of cross country athletes from Pfunanane Academy in Modjadjiskloof took part in a successful cross country competition at Merensky High School. They won thirteen medals and were victorious in six team competitions. The medal winners were, in front, Lucy Malatja, Ditebogo Mashatole, Lendra Mashale-Terwey, Palesa Thobakgale, Tumisang Kekana, Bridget Modike and Nyasha Mazodze. In the back are LeeAnn MacLean, Modjadji Masondo-Terwey, Philip Mogashoa, Tinashe Mazodze, Tumelo Sekhula and Kabelo Moyaba.

Merensky u.15’s on a winning streak Merensky High School’s u.15A cricket team played against Tom Naude in Polokwane on Saturday. Merensky went in to bat first and scored 335 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 40 overs. Tom Naude’s team only managed to put 62 runs on the scoreboard, before they were all bowled out. The best batters were Richard Coleman (91) and Viraj Devahora (55), whilst the best bowler was Timothy Elphinstone (3 for only 11 runs). The first team match could not be played due to rain.

A group of cross country athletes from Pfunanane Academy in Modjadjiskloof are heading for the SA’s. The group won eight medals between them at the Limpopo Championships in Mokopane. Eleven Pfunanane athletes were selected to represent Limpopo at the SA Championships in Potchefstroom on 14 September. The medal winners and Limpopo team members are: (front) Lucy Malatja, Ditebogo Mashatola, Michelle Maboi, Bridget Modike, Lendra Mashale-Terwey, Nyasha Mazodze and Modjadji Masondo-Terwey. At the back are Wendy Ramodisa-Terwey, Philip Mogashoa, Penny Lebea, Tinashe Mazodze, Lethabo Lebea-Terwey, Kabelo Moyaba and Molly Masondo-Terwey.

— Louis Roux louis@bulletin.us.com

— Louis Roux louis@bulletin.us.com

New chef moves in at Coach House

Mr Peter Irons has been appointed executive chef at the Coach House. A member of the Chefs Association of South Africa, Irons brings 38 years’ experience in restaurant management, latterly in the Kruger National Park and the Raptors Restaurant In Mbombela. He ran the well-known Selati Train Restaurant at Skukuza for seven years before it was sadly demolished by fire. It catered for VIPs, politicians and overseas visitors, venison being the main speciality. He aims to bring back the dishes for which the original Coach House was famous and to re-introduce the popular Sunday buffet. “My challenge is to fuse modern cuisine with the old classical dishes, such as avocado ice-cream with balsamic reduction.” The Coach House holds fond memories for him as he was married here 29 years ago. The six-course wedding feast, including fresh oysters, cost R26/head. Irons started his career with the SA Defence Force where he took a cookery course specialising in French cuisine (which may sound odd to old ‘troopies’) and rose to sergeant major in the Permanent Force. He is an avid bird-watcher and looks forward to pursuing his hobby in the beautiful environment of Agatha. He is also a keen gardener and has taken over the supervision of the hotel’s extensive gardens. His wife Manya has also been employed at the Coach House as part of the sales and marketing team. On the photo left is Irons in his favourite environment.

As the cold of winter slowly shifts into the warmer days of spring, add to the joyful mood by transforming your house into a cool, happy habitat. Kickstart your imagination with these spring décor ideas: Go romantic Add some vibrantly coloured ruffles or roses to your bedspread, pillows and even lampshades to add a bit of spring to the room. Go clean and earthy All-white rooms have been a trend for a while. Update the white look by contrasting it with the earthy tones of wood. Add some wooden blinds or furniture to a white room for a great contrast. Add splashes of colour with throws, scatter cushions and vases. Add prints Remember to always keep a balance between plain and

Changing your home from drab to cheery is as easy as a coat of paint and a few pieces of furniture. Start afresh in spring with ten different ways to transform your house into a happy home. Mix it up Make your rooms interesting by mixing furniture and decor from different cultures and periods. Try mixing Victorian furniture with Indian lampshades and cushions or use retro American furniture with elegant European accents like mirrors and vases. Colours matter Choose colours that flatter you, especially in rooms you spend a lot of time in. It’s not only clothes that make an impression, a room can also help show you off at your best when you entertain guests.

printed if you want to use prints. Create a focal point with a bold painting or print and plan your c o l o u r scheme around it. Choose a few of the main colours and use them for accent pieces like lamps, trays and cushions. Use prints to make plain furniture interesting. Match chairs and sofas with bold floral printed cushions or use a floral lampshade in contrast with a plain coloured wall.

Decorate with pieces you love If you choose furniture and accents that you love, you will never get tired of seeing it. Don’t go for pieces that are in fashion but don’t fit with your lifestyle or taste! Curves are great Round and curvy furniture like coffee tables can make a space feel inviting. They add a flow, softness and playfulness to a room. Keep seating neutral A large piece of furniture upholstered in a bold colour or busy pattern will instantly make a room feel heavier. Try keeping large sofas and armchairs lighter and more neutral. This will lighten up the room. Make a colourful first impression If you have an entryway, make the first impression count with a colourful focal point. Cover the walls with

beautiful wallpaper or add a bold, interesting bench to brighten up a large empty wall. Get whimsical Add interesting little touches to rooms to keep your house homey. They can also act as conversations starters for new guests. Liven up stairs by placing a row of figurines in an interesting place, fill an empty corner with a vintage suitcase or place a stack of old books on a side table. Add drama to a small space Make a small room seem bigger by adding interesting wallpaper or dramatic accents. Mirrors also create the illusion of space. Contrast is beautiful Create contrast by using different types of materials in one space. Mix raffia and marble in your kitchen or use silk with sandstone in the bedroom.

Make your bedroom allergy-proof Compiled by Retha Nel

Source: Source: http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/allergies/indoor-allergies/how-to-allergy-proof-your-home2.htm

If you have kids or are an allergy-sufferer yourself, you probably already know that a lot of small things cause allergies. This is especially true of bedrooms, as it is the room you spend the most time in — more than eight hours a day. Try these tips to allergy-proof your bedroom and get a good night’s sleep: • Wipe the dust off the bed frame, wood and metal parts of the furniture with a damp cloth once a month. • Buy covers that keep mites and allergens at bay for your mattress and base. • Make sure it is the breathable kind. For more comfort, add a washable mattress pad

on top of the covers. • Wash all linens in hot water once a week. Wash blankets in hot water every two to four weeks. • Put your pillows in allergen-proof covers. Wash synthetic pillows once a month in very hot water. Throw away any pillows that are lumpy, old or discoloured. • Avoid: wool blankets (if you are sensitive to the fibres) and foam-rubber cushions, pillows and mattress (which attract mold easily). • Remove carpeting. If you can’t, rather use low pile rugs than lush shag carpeting. Vacuum twice weekly. Take out all the boxes, shoes and trinkets from under the bed. They collect dust very easily. • Keep pets out of the bedroom. They bring dust and mites wherever they go. • Don’t eat in bed. Cockroaches will move into your bedroom for the small scraps you leave behind. • Don’t put candles, especially scented candles, in the bedroom. It can release irritating or harmful substances. • Keep bookcases away from the bed or move them out of the bedroom.

Working with a small garden Compiled by Retha Nel

Source: Source: http://homemag.co.za/gardening/smarten-up-your-small-garden/#sthash.6h23rl6T.dpuf

With spring approaching the outdoors seem more attractive and you start longing to sit under a tree and read or get your backyard ready for a braai. There are many ways to transform your small garden into a summertime oasis. A spot to relax Walls, paving, pillars and groundcover contrasting and complementing comfy cushions on gorgeous bench or beautiful cement plant pots come together to create an inviting garden corner. Use the walls and floor as focal points. Paint an ugly wall or create a sense of space with a striking mural, add a touch of romance with fragrant creepers. Flagstones and pavers, surrounded by groundcover and bedding plants lead visitors to your oasis. The crowning glory should be a comfortable bench or weather-proof hammock with a large garden umbrella to create shade on hot days. The braai zone If a braai on the weekend is tradition in your house, then an outdoor braai is a must. Get a

built-in braai on the veranda, sheltered from wind and within easy reach of the kitchen. Alternatively there are many freestanding or portable braai-units around which you can create a haven for the men who live chatting around the fire. Remember to keep your braai zone close to the kitchen and add a work surface for cutting, seasoning and keeping serving dishes, as well as a wash basin for sticky hands. For a cosy atmosphere, add a picnic table or two (in the shade / with umbrellas) where guests can sit and eat. Place the seating area where the smoke from the fire won’t irritate. No-time-for-gardening Most people don’t have the time or energy to keep their garden looking lush and green all the time. Use structure and low-maintenance plants to create a fabulous garden that will not take up your whole Saturday. Ask your nearest nursery for plants that need minimal tending but are still colourful. Use boundary walls with creepers to create the illusion of a lush paradise. Paving stones, gravel and grass need little tending, but used together with flowering shrubs or ground cover plants can create a green paradise. Fountains and falls With a small garden space a pool is out of the question. Install a water feature fitting the garden atmosphere and space instead. Water features cool down the garden, which will have a big impact on your garden in the summer, and has a soothing effect on people. Use a water feature as a focal point and design your garden around it. There are many different types of bowls, ponds and other interesting shapes. Try to create your own or visit a local nursery to browse their selection. In the interest of water conservation, rather choose a smaller water feature. Remember to match the water feature with the garden. Circular and square ponds tend to fit more formal gardens. Keep the water feature away from trees or you’ll constantly have to clean leaves out of it. Install it in a sheltered spot if your garden is regularly exposed to strong winds. A-Maze-ing walls Boundary walls can have a great impact on your garden. A wall of plants or a brick and mortar wall can be used to create secret nooks and separate spaces, even in a small garden. Use frames or trellises for creepers to soften a hard brick wall, liven a concrete wall up with a coat of pain or use planters and wall hanging plants to create shapes on a blank wall. Although some of the ideas may sound expensive, talk to your local nursery and try a little DIY to add some of the elements to your garden without breaking the bank. Make turning your backyard into an oasis a new weekend project and you’ll have your own little haven before the summer heat strikes!

‘Tea on the green’

The pupils of the Letaba School for the Handicapped had a big birthday party last week Friday, courtesy of a homegrown Samaritan. The Nkowankowa-bred Ms Priscilla Mothobuka (better known as Nhlagi), celebrated her birthday in June, but decided to treat needy children instead of calling up her friends and family for a party in Johannesburg. Gathering friends and family, they decided to make the party part of their Mandela Day contributions. Their motto — make every day a Mandela Day! As part of the celebrations, each pupil of Letaba School received a Mandela Day t-shirt and cap. Mothobuka also had fleece blankets personalised. “Each child’s name was embroidered so that they know which blanket is theirs and that it doesn’t get lost or taken,” she explains with a smile. As part of their 67 minutes for Mandela Day Mothobuka’s group cleaned the boys’ hostel, prepared breakfast, tea with cakes and made lunch for the pupils. After tea, the pupils held a small ceremony where they sang, danced and thanked Mothobuka for her kindness. Mothobuka hopes that her actions will inspire others to extend their Mandela Day contributions past 18 July.

To keep the children warm, Ms Priscilla Mothobuka gave each pupil of the Letaba School a fleece blanket with their name embroidered on. Robert Nkwana, one of the pupils, wrapped himself in his new blanket as soon as it was handed to him. Mothobuka bent down and chatted to him for a bit. Photo: Retha Nel

Beswaard!

Intussen word jyself niks meer as ‘n blote struik in

………………………………………….. “There are lies, damned lies and statistics.” — Mark Twain

The other fixtures are Chippa United vs Blackburn Rovers, Witbank Spurs vs Thanda Royal Zulu, Baroka FC vs Sivutsa Stars, African Warriors vs Maluti FET College and Jomo Cosmos vs United FC. Thanda Royal still have unfinished business with the Premier Soccer League. They recently referred their case against the league to the FIFA Appeals Board, after failing to convince the arbitrator that they were unfairly denied promotion to the elite league last season. More speel albei spanne in Bela teen die Boland.
