Relief for Tzaneen’s severely overcrowded magistrates’ offices is imminent. A spacious double-story government homestead in Pompagalana (photo above) has been converted into court rooms and offices and is

to be occupied early in 2013. Tzaneen’s chief magistrate, Mr James Norval, confirmed that the building has been allocated to his office. He also confirmed that the
family and civil courts will be accommodated in the new, comprehensively refurbished building. There is more good news, but Norval asked us to wait a while before making further announcements. — Francois Aucamp

Bad NEWS
The renovations of the old magistrates’ offices in Tzaneen’s CBD, next to the Police station, have come to an abrupt halt and the contractor has left the premises. New tenders will now be invited, which might take quite some time.
When the tender for the restoration of this stately heritage building was awarded, experienced people in the building industry warned that only an experienced
contractor would be able to comply with the strict building regulations for heritage buildings. The building will be allocated to the SAPS, once the restoration has been completed. — Francois Aucamp
— Francois Aucamp
