egter hul kant mooi gebring”. Mnr Eddie Vorster was afwesig toe die foto geneem is. — LiN Nuus/Kruger2Canyon

Security guards detain Good Samaritan Security guards at Van Velden Hospital in Tzaneen detained a Good Samaritan for over an hour after he had brought in an injured man at the request of the injured man’s employer. An employee of Breed Security was injured during work and he called the owner, Mr Fixon Mhlongo. Mhlongo was out of town and he called Mr Shaun Breed, the owner of Global Clocking, to ask him to take the injured man to the hospital. He also asked Breed to tell the man to call Mhlongo after having been treated. Breed took the patient to the hospital, filled in the required forms and left, as Mhlongo would pick up the patient after his treatment. However, security guards at the hospital’s entrance refused to let Breed leave, as they were of the opinion that Breed had caused the man’s injury. They said they would detain Breed until the SAPS could come and arrest him. He
called Mhlongo, who then came to explain the situation. Mhlongo talked to the security guards, then to the doctors who had treated the injured man. The doctors said they did not ask security guards to detain Breed, as they were just treating the injured man. Eventually the guards allowed Mhlongo and Breed to leave, with the injured man, who had been treated. Ms Ellen Madike, the CEO of Van Velden, upon our enquiry, was not aware of the situation but strongly disapproved the action. She said the hospital was there to treat patients and that only the person who was injured could say how it happened. She promised to delegate someone to investigate the matter.

Most wanted suspects arrested at Ritavi Four suspects, believed to have been responsible for several incidents of gang rape and armed robberies were arrested after they allegedly hijacked an Ethiopian man, killed him and dumped his body next to the road. Allegedly the murder took place on Friday at Khopo village, Ritavi. The body of the deceased, a 29 year-old man, was found next to the road. He had wounds to the chest and it is suspected that he was killed with a sharp instrument. The suspects took the deceased’s
small LDV and fled. Intensive police investigations led to the arrest of four suspects in and around villages at Ritavi and Maake. The LDV was also recovered. The suspects have since been linked to four cases of gang rape as well as three cases of armed robberies. They would have appeared in the Maake Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Investigations to link them to more crimes are continuing.

New (acting) chief takes control in Limpopo The MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison in
Limpopo, Mr George Phadagi, announced the appointment of Major-General B M Ntlemeza as the acting Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner. Ntlemeza’s appointment is with effect from 1 October 2011 until such time as a permanent appointment is made. Ntlemeza steps into the boots of Lt-Gen Amon Mashigo who left the SA Police Service at the end of September after 34 years of service. He leaves behind a province with the lowest crime statistics in the country. “We aim to maintain the status of Limpopo as the home of peace. We are confident that the current SAPS leadership has what it takes to roll back the tide of crime in the province. “Maj-Gen Ntlemeza has been part of the
SAPS leadership with Lt-Gen Mashigo that is credited with making Limpopo too hot and too small for criminals — a fact borne out by the province’s crime statistics. We have full confidence and trust that he will ably steer the ship until a permanent appointment is made,” Phadagi said. “The people of Limpopo and visitors to our province need not panic or feel insecure. There will never be leaderlessness or uncertainty within the SAPS in Limpopo as some section of the media may report. We have the situation firmly under control. “Short-listing for the permanent replacement has been done and interviews will be conducted in the middle of October. We hope to make
an appointment by the beginning of either November or December. “This shows how serious we are in ensuring certainty within the ranks of the SAPS as certainty is crucial to our war against crime Ntlemeza and criminals. “I urge all policemen and women, and all the people of Limpopo to lend their support to Maj-Gen Ntlemeza in his capacity as Acting Provincial Commissioner”, Phadagi said.

Magagani appealed to the government to beef up CPF’s with incentives such as stipend to motivate them to do their job well. “We need offices to operate from, transportation to be able to move around and a stipend just like what the PR councillors are getting because we’re doing a good job for the community,” he said. “You see, sometimes you find that you want to go to a meeting, but you don’t have money… I understand that we’re volunteers, but we’d be more effective if we had all those incentives that would make us able to move around and communicate easily with each other,” he said. — Report by Orlando Chauke

Face of fire fighting is changing
The face of veld and forest fire fighting in SA is changing, because of the implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS) that is used globally in an all-risk management system. ICS can be adapted to fit any type and size of incident, be it a veld fire, flood or even a concert. The system can expand or contract as the situation changes. ICS only requires the filling of one position — the Incident Commander (IC). But how does the system work? The answer can be found in three words: leadership, teamwork and administration. There are four positions assigned to the ICS: the IC (person in charge of and responsible for managing the incident), Infor-
mation Officer (responsible for the development and release of information about the incident), Safety Officer (responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe conditions) and Liaison Officer (the point of contact for assisting and co-operating with other agencies). The incident general staff consists of four section chiefs: operations (operational aspects of an incident), planning (maintain and display resources and situation status), logistics (provide facilities, services and material in support of the incident) and finance/administration (monitor incident related costs, and administer any necessary procurement contracts).
Dalk ‘n skoonsuster?... • Omdat die man nou gesê het hy Willie pratie, dink mense daar is iets verdags. Maar dissie so nie. Die man wil eers sy feite agtermekaar kry. ...
I wonder how many of us could survive in a world without any rules and regulations? Imagine if there were no laws, you could travel as fast as you liked, live in whichever country you chose, treat people the way you wanted, and feel no blame what so ever. Now to some this would be paradise. I do not think I could honestly live like this. Perhaps, at times, I do wish I could travel faster, after all I am a very good driver and would arrive at my destination quicker and in one piece. Oh how vain I am. I often get angry with others who do not conform to my norms. So I think that rules are important. God gave the Israelites the Ten Commandments as a way to live. Remember they had become disillusioned with Moses and with life in general, it seemed to them that God had forgotten about them. Moses on returning with the tablets becomes so angry with them when he sees that they have built a golden calf and are worshiping it that he breaks the stone tablets. All this I have written about is human anger. • To be continued Blessings

word.

So much more than just a cultural event…
If you are in favour of a free press — and thus a free and democratic country — make your voice heard
The annual Mahumani cultural day at Nkomo village near Giyani, maintains their central theme: “Dress in your culture and dance to the tune of cultural music.” To the native Xitsonga speakers “this is about showcasing sovereignty and the beauty of Tsonga heritage among other nations,” explained the provincial chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders, kgosi Mageru France. “We know that in the past vaTsonga and other tribes in the country were perceived to be inferior — of course Tsonga culture is not second to any — but this demonstrate more in terms of unity as a tribe. “You can never find people celebrating as a unity if they were divided,” he said. Meanwhile, hosi Mahumani urged people to preserve culture by making sure that they teach their kids about their heritage. Speaking in the presence of Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale and guests from as far as Cape Town and Mozambique, hosi Mahumani said, “This event is not just for singing and dancing in celebration of our heritage, but passing the practice to younger generation so that

To celebrate the opening of Tree Frog Studios, Jacques “the Maori” Robert will be visiting Tzaneen. He is a talented and well-respected tattoo and piercing artist from Hermanus. Jacques has a wide range of abilities, doing extreme piercings like stretching, cartilage piercing and for the more adventurous, scarification. His specialty is that he can tattoo anything and he’ll be displaying his talents in Tzaneen from 5-20 October. Jacques will be a guest at Tree Frog Studios, which was started by his apprentice, Kyle Donaghy. they don’t forget their roots.” Mahumani said, “There’re few kids nowadays that know about their culture,” and that, “many of them know nothing,” because they were either not taught or have never had a platform to learn about their culture. “This is why we should hold events like this and teach our kids about our heritage,” he said, adding that next year the event would include competitions to encourage kids to learn their cultural practices and heritage. Mathale commended the role played by traditional leaders in the fight against colonialism and apartheid; saying, “traditional leaders were at the forefront,” in the fight against the likes of Jan Van Riebeeck,” whom he said, “sought to displace blacks of their fertile land and pushed them to areas where there’s no water.” “These leaders fought guns with bare hands to protect our land and heritage — and that’s why we should be proud to be their descendants,” he said, urging mayors and councillors to work together closely with traditional leaders to improve service delivery.

Eco Club offers birdwatching The Tzaneen Eco Club is hosting a course, An Introduction to Bird Identification and the Birds of Tzaneen, which runs for four weeks. Lectures will take place each Thursday evening from 18:30 to 19:00 at the community hall in Macadamia Village and there will be three Saturday morning fieldoutings to different bird eco-zones. The course is open to anyone and over 250 birds that are common in our area will be discussed. Each participant will also be given a CD of over 70 bird calls as an aid to their skills. The course will be based on the Newman’s Birds of Southern Africa Field Guide, but any good birding field guide in either English or Afrikaans would be sufficient. Guidance on related matters, like what binoculars work best for birding, will also be given. The cost of the course is R200 for club members and R300 for non-members with a R50 discount for pensioners and scholars. The price includes refreshments, three Saturday field outings and the bird call CD. This week’s fitness tip Ettienne van Wyngaardt (Fitness specialist)
The most popular excuse for people to not start exercising, is “I don’t have time”, or “I don’t know how I’m going to fit it into my schedule!” However, the people who are the most motivated to lose weight, are the people who find time or make time to exercise. Those people who can’t find time, know that exercise is hard.
However, exercise is necessary to maintain body function and health. In our society exercise has become everyone’s worst nightmare. But 30 minutes of exercise a day can keep your heart, brain and body healthy. What people don’t realize is that it’s easier than they think to fit 30 minutes of exercise into a day.

De Jager, Simpson neck in neck Jean Aucamp
jean@bulletin.us.com
The Northern Regions Rally Championship is on a knife edge. Two teams are in the running for the title and both are from Tzaneen. Eddie Simpson and his navigator Marco Lottering from Simpson Motors are currently leading the pack in Class S1, but with two events to go it might well be the team of
Erik de Jager and Pieter Gouws of MDJ Motorsport that takes the honours. In the overall standings for drivers Simpson is on 78 points and De Jager on 73. De Jager will have to stay within nine points of Simpson if he wants to snatch the title away from him, while in the co-driver’s standings Gouws is leading Lottering by only two points. Another nine points will be up for grabs for the class win-

The championship has become a two horse race, as the team currently in third place is on eight points. The final round will be in Pretoria at the SCC All Tar Rally on 12 November.

Dynamos escapes beating on home ground Have you entered your Relay team yet? Orlando Chauke Dynamos’ slogan “Rikhomeni ri nga peli” meaning hold it down, don’t let the sun go down, seemed to be working well as they fended off the attack of African Warriors from all the directions at Giyani Stadium over the weekend. The home ground advantage did not seem to have much effect on the visitors, coming all the way from Free S tate. African Warriors looked determined to take full points to up their position in the national first division league.
Dynamos should thank their goalkeeper Mamphitha Mashudu who snatched every ball that went in the direction of the net, preventing the “sun from going down on them” in the early stages. It is by chance that the match ended in a nill all draw. African Warriors could have gone back home with more than three goals. Their strikers Justice Sithole and Jimmy Zakazaka were constantly in Dynamos’ territory, trying to negotiate their way in. Fortunately they just couldn’t get past Mashudu. In the second half Dynamos seemed to have
come to life after the Warriors striker Jimmy Zakazaka received a second yellow card for foul play that saw him leave the field. The zeal did not last long though, as Warriors organised themselves and came gunning again. Meanwhile the supporters on the grandstand were unwavering in their singing of “Ri khomeni ringa peli,” as their beloved home team made some desperate attempts to net a goal in the last minutes. The referee finally decided to call it a day and blew the final whistle, much in favour of the Dynamos supporters. The result frustrated Dynamos, as it hampered their chances to move from their current seventh position to fourth in the league. African Warriors is in fifth position. FAR LEFT: Dynamos striker Pontsho Ntsoane (in orange) struggles to get past the African Warriors defence. LEFT: African Warriors striker Jimmy Zakazaka misses the goal by a few inches.
