Gteda CEO Mr Kwena Maphoto opened the refurbished offices of the estate in Magoebaskloof’s hills, where hundreds of workers from the compound Middelkop prepared themselves for a possible new future. Maphoto said it was important to establish each candidate’s identity to assure that the local folk get preference. The first batch of four hundred workers will be supplemented by a further one hundred, before the slashing of the tea plantation will commence. It will be cut down to ground before new tea leaves can be produced for the extraction of the “magic potion” identified by Limpopo Green Estate director Roger Duffield. According to Maphoto the looming dispute by some of the Makgobas to turn the estate into an avocado plantation was turned down by the MEC of agriculture in Limpopo, who gave Gteda instructions to proceed with the project. It will take longer than a year to clear the plantation, before any new developments are expected.
