GTM don’t have the answers Bulletin preparing to take them to court
The Greater Tzaneen Municipality have failed to supply the Bulletin with answers to nine simple questions after more than a month. This despite the acting municipal manager (MM), Ms Conny Mametja, having instructed her communications department’s staff, including the head of the department, Mr Thulani Twala, to forward the requested information to the Bulletin. Word in the GTM’s corridors has it that the MM is being boicotted by certain elements because she is “too strict and disciplined”. Bulletin sent a lawyer’s letter to the MM on Tuesday, notifying that we will file an application in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act if the
GTM does not respond withing three days (today being the third day). We will spend money on legal action in fighting the GTM on this is issue, in the interest of the community — and to fight the arrogant and uncalled for lack of transparency demonstrated by officials of the GTM. • We will report further on this matter next week, when we will also publish the nine questions. We want to put on record that we will not allow the community to be kept in the dark and we will not accept that ratepayers are being ignored. If Tzaneen’s residents are complacent and if the opposition parties represented in the GTM’s council can’t fight the lack of transparency, we will take the fight to the GTM. And we will not stop anything short of the highest authorities in the land.
