Barracuda! in the Tzn dam Not only fishermen but also ichthyologists are totally confused, actually stunned, after Wednesday’s catch of a barracuda in the Tzaneen Dam. An ichthyologist of Rhodes University’s world renowned Department of Ichthyology in Grahamstown, Prof John Chrysler, is expected to arrive in Tzaneen early tomorrow (Saturday) — to lead a team of scientists that will investigate the catch. The remainder of the road works to be done to upgrade the R71 coming into Tzaneen from Georges Valley/Magoebaskloof past the new Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre have begun. A private contractor will do some of the work and then Sanral wil direct the rest of the work. A traffic island (see drawing herewith) will force motorists not to turn right into or right out of the Sasol filling station, whilst traffic lights will control traffic into and out of the new centre. The blue portion shows Phase 2 of the centre and talk is that the developer — Resilient — could start with Phase 2 a lot sooner than expected. The new Total filling station next to KFC will open in three weeks to a month.

Verskeie gemeenskapsleiers van Tzaneen waarsku “ons gaan weer strate toe soos met die destydse poging om die dorp se naam te verander” (na Mark Shoppe), ná gister (Donderdagmiddag) se aankondiging dat die palms en sikadeë tussen die twee dubbelbaan-paaie van die Hoërskool Merensky tot in die dorp verwyder gaan word. Die breë strook tussen die paaie gaan volgens die aankondiging, deur Limpopo se paaiedepartement, “gerehabiliteer” word; en in die bome en struike, dalk die dorp se bekendste landmerk, se plek kom ‘n betonblokmuur.
