Premier Mathale must go! Pressure is mounting on Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale to resign, with an accredited youth movement the latest to call for his head. In the meantime Mathale’s wife is also in the spotlight, after it has been announced that the Police and the Hawks have confirmed that they are investigating her.

There seems to be almost no end to the scandals pertaining to corruption, tenderpreneurship, fraud, nepotism and bad governance in general • His business connections are well-known in both politics and business • Mathale’s multi-million Rand business empire extends beyond Limpopo • Salaries went up by 80% • R80 nett profit from a R121 million asset base! • Mathale has splashed out R½ million for state-of-the-art furniture for his office

Some of Mathale’s associates are: • Thaba Mufamadi and his Manaka Property Investments • Jannie Moolman, well-known building magnate of Polokwane • Jimmy Kourtombellides, well-known Limpopo power player and multimillionaire businessman

Magoebaskloof’s spectacular tea farms have been ruined by the beneficiaries, the Mamphoku-Makgoba Community Trust. Now the department of agriculture has taken back control of the farms.

Do you think the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce contributes to the development of our business community?

The best performing schools in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s area that did well in the 2011 matric exams, were honoured during an award ceremony at the Tzaneen Country Lodge. Sitting in front are Mr Napoleon Mboweni (CNA chief whip in the GTM council), Ms Dikeledi Mmetle, mayor of the GTM, and Mr Percy Machete (speaker in the GTM council).

Hannes Enslin: Sal baie leersaam wees. Weet van sprekers ens. by die etes. Stem saam met Frederick en Rolien. Belowe ek lees gereeld koerant.

Tea estates collapse Three weeks ago the Bulletin carried an exclusive front page report about the missing millions in the Magoebaskloof tea estates, that were handed to the Mamphoku-Makgoba Community Trust. We then referred to a forensic report that is being kept secret. In the meantime we have succeeded to get insight into the report and we can confirm that the Trust illegally changed the provisions of the original trust deed, thereby giving unprecedented pow-

The course covered practical and operational skills as well as the legal duties of guides. The course was practical and active, with daytime exercises on the river and night time lectures and discussions. Ds Barry van der Merwe NG Kerk Letsitele

Vrydag 3 Februarie 2012

Ek het `n baie interessante paragraaf in `n boek gelees: “We must remember that our first task is not to forgive, but to learn to be forgiven. Too often to be ready to forgive is a way of exerting control over another. We fear accepting forgiveness from another because such a gift makes us powerless — and we fear the loss of control involved.

Help so!

En dan, soos die Engelsman vra: “do you have the guts”?

Daar is remedies

Francois Aucamp

Where is the market? Tzaneen needs a farmers market where growers of fruit and vegetables can sell their produce to small traders and hawkers cheaply and in an orderly fashion. Farmers have indicated that they would be willing to contribute towards cold rooms and a storage area where trading could take place. But they need the support of the GTM in terms of a proper location and easy access. There is a significant demand for good quality fruit and vegetables in the greater Tzaneen area. The buying power of the far-flung communities must not be under-estimated. But these areas are served by traders who often drive long distances and have to go from packhouse to farm to source their requirements. Even then,

they cannot always get what they need. Although some packhouse owners might be reluctant to forego their ‘bakkie trading’ on their premises, this concern would be offset by the convenience of selling in a proper market situation which brings interested parties together on an organised basis. Some years ago the mayors of the Mopani District Municipality, the GTM and the Greater Letaba Municipality visited several European countries (at considerable expense) to investigate the setting up of a local market. Nothing has come of it although, according to the GTM’s Integrated Development Plan for 2011/12, funding has apparently been obtained for the establishment of the district fresh produce market in Tzaneen.

Sonntag is klaar met praktyk

The committee members for Ward 15, Tzaneen are, at the back): Messrs Peter Ndou, Paul Zaayman, Ronnie Shaai, Marius Jacobs and Abri Cilliers. Sitting are Mss Mokgadi Malatji, Maureen Sekgoaila, René Pohl (councillor) and Lizelle Cronjé. Mr Jacques du Toit was absent. The committee will have regular meetings every third Monday of the month at 18:00 in the council chambers.

Crime stats cops in court Mnr Martin Slabbert is aangestel as verkoopverteenwoordiger by Simpson Motors in Tzaneen.

Four SAPS station commanders — Brig Naledzani Sivhula (48), Capt Matome Matsapola (51), Brig Nelson Mulaudzi (50) and Lt-Col Mahlodi Ramokgobedi (49) appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for allegedly manipulating crime statistics in Tzaneen. The case was postponed until 22 February for bail applications. Investigations began when the crime statistics for Tzaneen were found to be inaccurate and that serious crimes had been deliberately covered up in 2008. The investigation found murder cases had been reduced to inquests and that housebreakings had been described as trespassing.

Rev Gail Blunden, assisted by her husband Mike, is the new minister at the St Peter’s Anglican Church in Tzaneen. Gail was born and raised in Pretoria and studied theology at St Paul’s College in Grahamstown. She was one of the first women to be ordained in the Anglican Church SA 1985. She served as an assistant in a parish in Waterkloof until 1996, when she became the rector of a parish in Silverton. She and Mike were married at the end of that year. Mike was a Baptist minister at the time and remained so initially. The couple went to Louis Trichardt in 2002 after serving in Silverton for six years. During their time there, Mike was ordained into the Anglican Church and they have enjoyed serving the Lord together. Now, after nine years there, they have had another call to serve in Tzaneen. Personal attention and an eye for detail have ensured a sterling reputation and an ever growing client base. Trouble snake removed Residents of section F in Giyani are relieved after the trouble snake they were complaining about was finally caught and removed from the area. The snake used to be seen along the footpath dividing sections F and E. It killed a resident last year and residents took the matter to the Greater Giyani Municipality. “People called for the killing of the snake when it was caught and removed. The situation nearly got out of hand because there were no police officers to monitor the process,” explained SPCA manager Bennett Chavalala, who removed the snake. Given Baloyi with the snake that he killed when it tried to catch chickens in section E, only about hundred meters from the first line of houses in Giyani town. The python was also famous for terrorising people around the area. Unfortunately the strange looking snake that was caught and removed had already been taken away and we couldn’t take a photo of the snake.

He said he has not seen a similar snake before and he thinks it is not a South African species. “It has fins around its neck and some black spots on the nose,” he said. “I suspect it could be one of the rare snakes of a collector that escaped around 2003 in this area. Its owner at the time offered a reward of R16 000 to whoever would bring them back,” he continued. “According to my experience, a snake would slip into any hole once surrounded, but this one passed four holes without entering — a sure sign that there could be another similar snake in the area,” he said. — Orlando Chauke

Musina suspends MM Musina has suspended its municipal manager, Mr Ntshavheni Abram Luruli. The decision came after he had been absent from work for four months without permission. He took leave from 1 April 2011 untill 1 June 2011, but failed to do so. Instead, he reported to the office on 11 November. He was ordered to hand in the municipality’s property in his possession, including a cell phone, a laptop and his office keys and any other official item that may be required for service delivery during the period of his suspension. The controversial Luruli also faces charges of corruption, maladministration, and failure to comply with the Municipal Finance Management Act.
