PLAY, CREATE and EXPLORE with ADVENTURE ZONE DAYCAMP this Summer! This year our daycamp will be hosted in 2 different locations, allowing for smaller groups but twice the fun! Each week boasts a new theme, full of crafts, sports, games, STEM activities, and new friendships. Our passionate, experienced summer leaders create a FUN, SAFE, and INCLUSIVE environment, fostering positive relationships and self-worth, all while having a blast!

This camp is held primarily outdoors at FJCC/Transfer Beach.

Safety protocols will be in place according to the Provincial Health Officer. To allow for proper preparation and leader/ child ratio, only weekly registrations are available.

Junior Lifeguard Camp (8-13yrs)

Junior Lifeguard Camp is an action packed aquatic challenge for those who love the water and who want more than learn to swim lessons. Designed by the Lifesaving Society for a serious purpose but the process is pure fun. Lots of lifeguard related activities with skill development based on personalbest achievement. Bring your lunch, snacks, towels and a change of clothing . Prerequisite: must be 8 years of age and able to swim 25 m and tread water for 1 minute.

Smart Moves (birth-12months)

Come and have lots of fun with your infant while becoming informed about physical activities that you can do at home to enhance your child’s learning potential. Some topics and developmental activities that will be covered include the vestibular (balance) system, proprioception (awareness of body in space), mid-line movements, and vision.

Each class will include fun songs and rhymes, baby yoga, and tummy time games that are developmentally appropriate and strengthen your baby’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional foundations for early learning.

General Interest Red Cross Babysitter Training (11-16yrs)

The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviors to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.

Prerequisite: Minimum 11 years old or completion of grade 5.

Red Cross Stay Safe! (9-13yrs)

Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations.

Youth have specific needs when it comes to long term movement development. They are undergoing many changes both physically and emotionally. Fit 2B YOUth is specifically designed for 13-18 year olds who wish to improve their aerobic fitness, strength, conditioning and flexibility. As with any class, our priority is to teach safe and functional movement skills. It is our hope that through movement, YOUth notice an improvement in their mood, confidence, selfesteem, resilience and mindset.

eBike Ocean & Forest Tour

No matter your fitness or experience level, an eBike makes cycling more fun! Our tours are designed to allow you to experience the joy of a cycling tour while on an eBike - hills, distance and wind don’t matter as the pedal assist electric motor is there to help.

Enjoy the beauty of Vancouver Island from the seat of a pedal assist electric bike. Biking reveals the hidden secrets of amazing landscapes, beaches and scenery that you would often miss from a car.

Even if you’ve lived here all of your life, you will likely discover something new on one of our tours!

Starting in Chemainus we will explore some of the hidden beaches and quiet forest trails in the Ladysmith and Chemainus area. This tour focuses on biking trails and avoids roads, while the eBike will help you go further than you imagined!

Rules and regulations surrounding COVID-19 do not allow for drop-in participation at this time. Registration allows instructors to properly prepare for class sizes, and allows the team to communicate to participants any changes to programming or additional safety measures that may arise.

Deep Water Fitness

These invigorating, impact-free classes work and tone all muscle groups. Participants combine cardiovascular work, deep-water running, jogging, bicycling and cross-country skiing movements.

Class focuses on muscular strength motions that work the body’s major muscle groups as well as motions that work the core and improve balance.

A buoyancy belt is required to create and maintain proper balance and posture.

Drop-in (Registered) Aquatic Visits Early Bird / Noon Length Swim

Kick start your day with some early morning laps or get your kilometer of lengths in at lunch. To allow for physical distancing, there will be four lanes; casual, slow, medium and fast with three patrons per lane. Staggered starts will ensure 2m between swimmers. Overtaking is not permitted - please pick the lane most appropriate for your swim speed.

If you need the warmth of the Therapy Teach Pool to loosen up your muscles, decrease the gravity on your joints, to work on pre or post-surgery exercises or just to get in some unassisted walking with the support of the water then the Ladysmith Leisure Swim is for you.

Please note: if you require assistance to and from the changeroom or in and out of the pool, you will be required to have an aid with you to assist you. Your aid will need to be registered in the same session you are attending. Please register by phone.

Parent and Tot Swim

Do you have a tiny human who needs to burn off energy in the morning? We have just the thing to make that happen while having fun in the pool!

The Parent & Tot swim is geared towards children not yet school aged and their caregiver. Space is limited so register early!

Everyone Welcome Swim

Grab your swimsuit and sign up for a session of fun at the pool. The diving board, climbing wall and slides are available. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the hot tub, sauna, and spray features in the therapy teach pool will be unavailable. Children 7yrs+ can attend unaccompanied, children under 7yrs must be accompanied by an adult 19yrs+ (2 children/1 adult). * Please phone to register if registering with the family rate.

In order to comply with physical distancing protocols, we are inviting you to the Pool

by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Controlling the amount of people in the pool allows us to enforce physical distancing and ensure equipment and touch points are disinfected.

Swimming Lessons Ladysmith Parks, Recreation and Culture is very excited to offer swimming lessons this summer. Due to Provincial Health protocols and guidelines, swimming lessons look a bit different this season.

PARENTED LEVELS ALL PRE-SCHOOL LEVELS AND SWIM KIDS LEVELS 1-4 ARE PARENTED. Because our instructors are not to have direct contact with children in the class, having an adult in the water with each child in these developing swimmer levels allows the instructor to effectively teach the class.

Little Ones (4-36 months) Starfish (4-12 months) - PARENTED

Orientation to water for babies and their parent/caregiver. To enter this level, babies must be able to hold their head up. The goals are to help babies experience buoyancy and movement through songs and play in the water and to teach the parent/caregiver agespecific water safety. This level is participation-based only, without formal evaluation.

SHORTER CLASS SETS This summer, class sets are one week long instead of two. This allows for more class options and more children to have the opportunity to attend swimming lessons.

Advanced Aquatics Bronze Medallion (13yrs+)

Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training.

Candidates acquire the assessment and problemsolving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.

Whichever option you choose, feel confident in knowing you will receive quality personal attention, guidance and knowledge in the safest possible exercise environment. Working with a certified BCRPA Personal Trainer is your assurance that our trainers have the highest qualifications in the industry, current first aid & CPR certifications, and appropriate insurance coverage.

Basic Orientation

Are you new to fitness or new to our facility? Our basic orientation is the perfect program to get you started and comfortable in this new environment.

During this one hour session you will learn: • how to use our cardio equipment • safe technique and set-up of our strength training machines • effective stretches for your body • how to read your basic total body exercise program $15/session plus GST

Youth Training Program

Youth ages 13-15 are welcome to use the Fitness Centre upon completion of the Youth Training Program. The program requirements are as follows: Step 1: Complete the Par-Q+ and Code of Conduct forms.

Step 2: Body Weight Training - program includes: • Learning safe movement mechanics of the youth’s own body weight • Introduction to resistance equipment such as resistance bands, stability balls, BOSU’s, skipping ropes, and cardio machines.

• Safe stretches • This program is to be followed for a minimum of 6-8 weeks before moving on to the next program.

Step 3: Strength Training with Machines – program includes: • Youth to demonstrate a few exercises from their body weight program to ensure Youth has comprehended, adapted and is practicing safe exercise technique.

• Introduction to the strength training machines.

• Safe stretches.

ABSOLUTELY NO FREE WEIGHTS, DUMBBELLS, PLATES OR BARBELLS ARE PERMITTED UNTIL YOUTH IS 16 YEARS. CABLES ARE LIMITED. $15/session plus GST

Parks and Trails Summer is a great time to get outside with your core friends or family and explore the wonderful parks and trails in our own backyard!

The Town boasts over 110 hectares of parks and open spaces offering seaside fun, nature experiences, playgrounds, and play fields. Why not grab a picnic basket, a blanket and head out to the park for a relaxing afternoon. Or, stroll down to Transfer Beach and check out the food truck scene, supported by the Town of Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce.

Our beautiful harbour setting and hillside landscapes offer over 26 km of hiking and walking trails with easy access to the many natural areas in the community.

Wouldn’t want to forget your favourite four legged canine companion! Did you know that Ladysmith has five dog off-leash areas for you and your dog to enjoy? Off-leash areas are a safe way to socialize and exercise your dog, meet new people and enjoy parks and trails with your favourite pooch. In order to ensure maximum enjoyment, dogs must remain under their owner’s control and owners carry a leash with them at all times.

All registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

A registration confirmation will be emailed to you once you have registered. Please watch for this confirmation coming from reccowichan, it may go to your spam folder.

Cancellations Cancellations or changes to scheduled drop-in visits will be accepted up until 24 hours before the scheduled session. Refunds or appointment changes will not be permitted within 24hrs.

Programs are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration or changes in facility operation. If this occurs, a full refund will be issued. The refund will be issued based on the method of payment. In the event that a program or an individual class is cancelled, every attempt will be made to have the class or program rescheduled.

Refunds Refunds may be given for withdrawals from programs 5 days prior to the start of the program, subject to a $5 refund processing fee. No refunds will be given 4 days or less before a course start date. Classes missed due to vacation or scheduling conflicts will not be refunded or credited. In cases of extended illness or injury, a prorated refund or credit may be granted upon provision of a medical note. To withdraw from a program, please call 250.245.6424.

Punch Passes You are now able to use your existing 10 punch and 30 punch passes for drop-in registered visits and select registered programs. Going forward, only 10 punch passes will be available for purchase. Please note, while you can use your punch passes, you must still register in advance, due to compliance with the Provincial Health protocols.

Leisure Access Program What is the Leisure Access Program?

The Town of Ladysmith, Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture provide a fee subsidy to Ladysmith residents who are in financial need. The subsidy enhances access to recreation and is available for admissions and program registration in Ladysmith. Proof of income and residency is required to determine the eligibility for the program.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for assistance, applicants must be residents of Ladysmith and have a total household income below Stats Canada low-income cutoffs.

How do I apply?

Applications can be found on our website or a physical copy can be requested by contacting the Frank Jameson Community Centre. Include with your application the documentation required, see application for details.

What can the Leisure Access Program be used for?

The program includes a 50-percent reduction in cost for most programs four times per year (one per season) and 50-percent discount on facility admissions.
