Janie B’s Loving Legacy… Born Janie Louise Jackson, the 5th of 7 children, and the 1st of 3 girls,
on the 30th of June, 1930, to Moody and Lou Jackson in Lott, Texas. She received Christ and was baptized at an early age at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Lott, Texas. The family later moved to Waco, Texas. She graduated from A.J. Moore High School and later attended Paul Quinn College in Waco. On-campus, she was known for her beauty and athleticism in basketball. She met Leroy Van Nealy Bailey of Yoakum, Texas, through basketball; he played center on Paul Quinn's Basketball Team. He was a "tall glass of water" on an athletic scholarship and considered the best dancer on campus. They dated, partied and danced center court at local hot spots, especially East Waco's Walker's Auditorium. They later married, and their 62 years of marital bliss produced seven girls and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Seven is a significant number in God's Word. Janie B and her husband spent their lives together in Waco, Fort Worth, Newfoundland and Houston. They raised their children in church while simultaneously instilling the importance of fun as they loved a good party! On Sunday mornings, you could find Janie B dressed to kill, always accessorizing with a hat, matching shoes, and a purse. In her Cadillac, she'd head to her home church, Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved to Houston with her daughters, and joined Abiding Faith Baptist Church. One thing about Janie B is she kept her actual age under tight wraps. You would never know how old she was because she hardly missed a party! She took pride in showing up to most events where she was invited. Whether it was her daughters' or grandkids' sporting events, dance recitals, or milestone celebrations. Even if they were as far away as Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio, or Iowa. She also traveled internationally with her daughters. After strutting into work at General Motors for many years, she finally retired, somewhere near 65 years old. She finally admitted that she was over 50, but she always looked so much younger. She was celebrated on her 91st birthday in June, 2021. Over one hundred of her family and closest friends joined her in person at the Houston Hilton Hotel and virtually via Zoom. She even received special acknowledgment from The City of Houston for her milestone birthday. Janie Bailey was “Queen of the Good Life”! She taught us how to live life boldly, with determination and a bit of sass! Many of us have learned many valuable life lessons from her. She enjoyed the Janie B family prayer call every saturday morning for the last three years. Janie B was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy V. N. Bailey, her parents, Lou and Moody Jackson, her siblings, Moody Jackson, Peter Jackson, A. Y. Jackson, Roger Jackson, Billie Covington and Margaret Gray, her daughter, Carolyn Junette Bailey and her granddaughter, Crystal Sam. Janie B leaves to cherish her memory and to keep her legacy alive, six daughters and one Nephew/Son: Diana Alexander (Frederick), Kathy Green (Melvin Bo), Charlotte Sue Walters, Janice Sam, Anita Pearl Khan (Darcy), Vikki Richardson (Lincoln) and Billy David Covington (Wyvette), and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Walking Angel
By Nikki Bailey I thank God that I had a chance to witness and be raised by a miracle that most never get to see. I got the luxury and pleasure to have on this earth a personal walking Angel named Janie B. Janie B. wasn’t your normal Angel that you only feel her spirit from heaven above She was actually a blessing Angel teaching and spreading love as she walked into church you could hear songs of praise without the choir singing a word What came from Janie B.’s heart and soul was the most beautiful music I ever heard. A woman that not only raised her own children but made herself a part of raising everyone around her. A giving woman who was always willing to share even if she only had one of something. Now that she has received her wings to fly in Heaven, she can protect us with her spirit along with the rest of our beloved Angels that have gone before us. I know it’s hard but let’s not cry or shed a tear, for our Angel Janie B will always be here. In all her family reunion speeches she always added, “living in one accord.”
P hilippians 2:1-4 1
If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
