ABOUT THE COTILLION The Cotillion Ministry was conceptualized in 2001 through a dream of Sis. Rosemary Price. The Cotillion has been held every other year since 2007. The Abiding Faith Cotillion Ministry has dedicated itself to providing workshops, seminars, and social outings geared towards enhancing life skills. The final debut is a beautiful formal ball presenting the Beaus and Debs. The rewards for such diligence will be the presentation of scholarships and awards. The Cotillion will mentor, recognize, and honor young ladies (debs) and young men (beaus) who exemplify strong leadership, service, and moral character in their churches, schools, and communities. The Cotillion Ministry is designed to provide a developmental life preparatory program that leads our youth to discover God's truth concerning His will for their lives through spiritual growth, community service, and enhanced social skills. We encourage high self-esteem, foster positive attitudes, teach goal setting, and how to achieve them through a committed prayer life. The program is open to current high school juniors and seniors interested in spiritual, personal and professional development, strengthening their leadership skills through community service, college and career preparation, and interest in earning scholarship funds for post-secondary education. Having good manners and etiquette can only enhance the lives of our young people. The committee offers workshops and other activities that teach participants good manners and etiquette This year’s Cotillion Program will begin in November and continue through April with a variety of workshops, community service projects, and cultural activities. The events culminate with a Cotillion Ball. The ball is a formal celebration, dinner and waltz where we will highlight the talents and achievements of our Debs and Beaus while formally introducing them to society in the full presence of their family, friends, church and the community, as they exhibit their social graces. However, due to the unprecedented times we are facing, this year’s events will culminate with a Cotillion Presentation. The presentation will be a celebration where we will highlight our Debs and Beaus' talents and achievements while formally introducing them to society in the full presence of their family, friends, church, and the community, as they exhibit their social graces. Scholarships will be given based on the workshops' attendance and participation in the community service projects. We encourage participants to be willing to fully commit time for participation in community service and workshop activities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENT In promoting social responsibility and realizing the Cotillion ministry's vision, we expect all Cotillion participants to actively engage in opportunities to enhance the quality of life in their respective communities. The Cotillion ministry requires that all participants complete community service. A ministry leader must approve your participation by providing their signature on the attached log to verify completion of your community service hours. The importance of community service is part of the foundation of this ministry. We say and believe that Jesus is in us and we are in him. Jesus said, in Matthew 25:40, "Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." Jesus expects us to do community service. Community service in today's world is the act of one human being helping out another human being. That help is given to someone without receiving anything in return. Community service can vary from giving thousands of dollars to shaking a needy person's hand. Community service can establish one person's connection to another person. The recipient may change his viewpoint of the world because of one person's act of charity. The person in need becomes connected to the very basics of human nature. Just to know that someone cares whether he lives or dies lets him know he is not alone in this life. Without community service, the giver would not feel the blessing that comes with helping the person in need; the person receiving the assistance would not experience the opportunity of benefiting from the giver's generosity. The world would go on if we didn't seek out others, but the idea of learning from each other and learning from our mistakes would vanish. In Matthew 6:2, Jesus said, "When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you they have received their reward." For the people that remain kind of heart and willing to help others, Jesus said in Matthew 6:3, "But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you." Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "Whatever you did for of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."
