As we gather to experience this beloved musical based on Charles Dickens’ "Oliver Twist", I find myself reflecting on the timeless themes that resonate throughout this story. Dickens’ tale of a young boy navigating hardship, searching for belonging, and yearning for a better life feels just as relevant today as it did when it was first published. At LCT, we believe in the power of storytelling to connect us all—across generations, backgrounds, and experiences. This production is a prime example of how theatre brings us together to share in the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
At LCT, our mission is to honor and celebrate our rich theatrical heritage while building a sustainable future. Oliver! represents the very heart of community theatre—an opportunity for collaboration, education, and shared creativity. Our talented cast and crew, made up of individuals from all walks of life, have worked tirelessly to bring this production to life. From our youngest performers to seasoned veterans of the stage, their dedication embodies our commitment to excellence in local entertainment.
As you watch Oliver! unfold, I invite you to think about the ways this story reflects our own community’s journey. Just as Oliver searches for family and belonging, so too do we strive to create a welcoming space where every person who walks through our doors feels seen, heard, and valued. At LCT, we envision a theatre that serves as a reflection of the diversity and strength of La Crosse, a place where the arts unite us and illuminate the richness of our shared identity.
This production is not only a celebration of a classic musical but a celebration of the incredible volunteers, artists, and community members who make LCT thrive. Our path forward is grounded in collaboration and accountability, and with each production, we take another step toward realizing our vision for the future—a future where creativity knows no bounds and theatre remains an essential part of our collective story.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Whether you’re a longtime supporter or a first-time visitor, your presence here tonight helps to sustain and shape the future of La Crosse Community Theatre. We hope you enjoy this magical production of Oliver!, and that it sparks joy, reflection, and perhaps even a renewed sense of community.
ERIK VOSE Executive Director
“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.” -Don Williams Jr.
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns and few stories capture that better than Oliver Twist. Born into the harsh confines of a workhouse, Oliver makes a bold choice to “want some more” for himself—a decision that sets him on a path filled with solitude, camaraderie, danger, protection, holding to hope, and being pragmatic.
Oliver’s story takes place in just 11 or 12 days—an astonishingly short period for someone who experiences so much. Like most of the characters in this show, we all wear masks to survive, adapting to life’s twists and circumstances. Our production embraces the complexity of these characters, showing that even those who seem purely “good” or “evil” exist in shades of grey.
After sitting with this show over the past year, these are some of the concepts, themes, and images that really stuck with me: the power of darkness & light, resiliency, transformation, and forging your own path.
“In the darkest times, hope is something that you give yourself” -Albus Dumbledore
Life’s darker moments make the light even more precious, and this musical doesn’t shy away from the hardships of the human experience. Even when Oliver is alone shrouded in darkness, he is yearning for the light that is underneath the willow tree he sees in his dreams.
“She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her way, she adjusted her sails —Elizabeth Edwards
For this production, I chose to highlight the female characters and their resiliency. In the 1800s, women in London had few rights and little social mobility. In this show, they needed to wear different masks, transform, and adapt to influence decisions, change the narrative, and drive the action of this show despite limitations imposed on them.
“Although the happiness and delight of my life lie buried there too, I have not made a coffin of my heart, and sealed it up for ever on my best affections. Deep affliction has only made them stronger; it ought, I think, for it should refine our nature. — Mr. Brownlow in Oliver Twist
Enjoy the Oliver’s journey and embrace every twist and turn along the way.

She'd like to thank her family, friends, and cast mates. enjoy the show!!
MARCIA BRENDUM (Nancy) Marcia is excited to be back on stage as your Nancy! In past years, you would have seen her bending and snapping as Paulette in Legally Blonde or behind an inappropriate puppet as Blue Bear in Avenue Q. Fun fact: she had the privilege assistant directing this show back in 2007 with music director, Peter Bosgraaf! Off the stage, Marcia is the Marketing Coordinator for Credit at Kwik Trip and an event coordinator at The Greenhouse at Bittersweet as well as private events! Got a wedding/party?! I can coordinate that! And don’t let Bill fool ya, she’s single!

Professional roles include Jervis Pendleton in Daddy Long Legs, Caleb in The Spitfire Grill, and Robert in Boeing Boeing with the Northern Fort Playhouse; as well as a cast member with Storybook Land Theatre in Aberdeen SD.
STACY BRUEMMER (Fagin) Once upon a time, an 11 year-old Stacy auditioned for her very first community theatre production in Colorado. She had already played a bicuspid in a school play, this would be her first "real" show! Low and behold she got a part in (you guessed it) OLIVER! LCT audiences will remember her as Berthe in Boing-Boing or Cindy Lou Who in Who's Holiday. Stacy is tickled pink to share a stage with her son, MacKinley in this show and wishes her daughter, Julianna could trod the boards tonight too! Thank you, John, for always holding my hand! Mind your pockets everyone, enjoy the show!

Most recently, he wowed audiences as Bruce in "Matilda." His enthusiasm for performance extends beyond acting; he sings with the La Crosse Boychoir and showcases his Bollywood dancing skills at the UWL International Banquet and Global Initiative.
