First Aid CPR Class

(12+ yrs) Learn valuable “basic lifesaving skills” during this one-day program covering personal safety, blood-borne pathogens, choking, all levels of CPR, and other essential topics. Taiko Drumming

(16+ yrs) Taiko, the art of Japanese Drumming, is now available to you! If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to play the big drums, now is your chance to give it a try! This is a physical activity that requires the ability to stand for an hour and flex and stretch. No experience needed for the beginning class, and drums provided. We will use River Ridge High School’s practice drums and play on the rawhide drums during the final class.

Toddler Explorations

(18 mos. – 3 yrs) This class offers fun new experiences for your toddler! Theme -based activities include stories, crafts, sensory play, songs, and games that will have you both up and moving as we learn about the world around us, together! (3–5 yrs) Does your little one boogie around the house? This class is a perfect way for your dancer to learn some moves as well as choreography.

(6–12 yrs) In this class your dancer will learn a variety of trending dance choreography and moves. TikTok music and moves will be modified to be age appropriate. Some of the trends in the class will be: The moon walk, running man, stanky leg, whip and nae nae, shoot, jerking and cupid shuffle.

Meet the Instructor Katherine has been dancing since she was a young girl. She began teaching at the age of 14.

In 2007 Katherine created a dance company, DancerZone360. She has had her performing groups and competitive teams perform at countless community performances as well as at Diney World, Disney Land and Universal Studios. She loves working with youth and seeing them grow throughtout the classes.

S.T.E.A.M Together!

(3–7 yrs) Research shows activities that teach children about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math help build a great foundation for education! These areas are often hard for parents to find time, space, and ideas on how to foster this type of learning in their children. These workshops takes all the work and worry out of the experience for you! Our instructor will plan an age-appropriate STEAM- related activity, project or experiment; collect all the supplies; and set up the space for you and your child. Lego Class: Superheroes

(6–12 yrs) Join Bricks 4 Kidz® for a 4-week series of classes building Superheroes with LEGO® bricks. Kids will recognize a family of incredible heroes, hero guardians in space, teen heroes, and of course their favorite classic heroes. Explore caped crusaders and discover their superpowers. We’ll build characters, vehicles, and gadgets using LEGO bricks and motors. All students take home a custom minifigure (kits are reused, not taken home).

Earn A Bike

(11–17 yrs) Youth will learn essential bicycle safety and maintenance skills to help prepare them to ride their bicycle independently. Students who successfully complete the class will earn a refurbished bicycle and new helmet. Earn-A-Bike students will have two weeks to complete a series of online video-based lessons and quizzes. Upon completion, students will schedule a time to fit and pick-up their bicycle and helmet at the Walk N Roll Education Center in downtown Olympia.

If students are unable to transport their bicycle home, Intercity Transit can deliver. Participants will need access to a computer or smart phone and internet access. A link will be provided prior to class. This program is offered as part of Intercity Transit’s Walk N Roll youth education program. (6–12 yrs) A great way for children to spend their Spring Break! Join our staff as we us to play games, create art, perform, sing, dance, and have a fun time. Recreation staff from our summer camps will provide fun and supervision. Please bring a sack lunch and morning/afternoon snacks each day.

Recreation staff from our summer camps will be back to provide fun and supervision. You can sign up for a day, a couple days, one week, or both weeks.

Gymnastics Recreational Gymnastics through Black Hills Gymnastic

(18 mos – 12 yrs) The goal of our recreational gymnastics classes is to give families an affordable and safe opportunity to experience the benefits of gymnastics. The professional staff at Black Hills Gymnastics emphasize safety, fun, building coordination, confidence, and basic skills. Instructors follow a planned curriculum which is evaluated and updated regularly.

Children must meet minimum age requirement by date of first class.

Parent & Tot Gymnastics

(18 – 36 mos) Tumbling, songs, exercises, and fun equipment are a great way to give your child healthy playtime! This is an exciting, parent-participation class that gives moms, dads, and little ones a chance to meet new friends, too.

Each class is expertly led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable coach at Black Hills Gymnastics.

Activities are designed to develop motor skills, agility, and spacial awareness. Sessions meet one day a week for four weeks.

(3–5 yrs) One way to keep kids healthy is to develop their love of movement and activity. Kindernast is a wonderful “first gymnastics adventure” which will build your child’s confidence and agility. (4–13 yrs) Looking for a new indoor sport for your young athlete? Floorball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and worldwide. It’s even recognized as an International Olympic and Special Olympic Sport! Floorball is fun, fast-paced, and a sport that anyone can play! A team sport with minimal contact and lightweight, safe equipment, floorball has become the sport of choice for individuals across the world, regardless of age or physical ability. Learn from the best! Former USA National Player & US Women’s U19 National Team Head Coach David Crawford will teach Floorball skills, drills, and strategy as you try this rapidly growing sport. A parent and child class with focus on comfort through fun, songs, and games. One adult is required to be in the water with each student.

“Just the right fit” for all new and returning swimmers. Utilizing well-organized progressions, swimmers will practice breath control, basic swimming strokes, safety skills, and how to have fun in the water! No pre-requisite skills required.

All swimmers in Level 1, 2 & 3 are required to wear a “learn to swim” float vest (provided at pool) if less than 48 inches tall.

ADVANCED SWIM LESSONS LEVEL 4 7 – 12 yrs ** Must pass level 3 to register **

Instructors will introduce and guide swimmers through new strokes including back crawl, butterfly, and breast stroke while continuing to teach safety and skill refinement. Current swimmers can enroll for Level 4 if they have an instructor evaluation card indicating they have accomplished the required skills.

NOVEMBER 1, 2021 – MAY 1, 2022 The Lacey Museum invites you to a special exhibition examining the complicated history and impact of Executive Order 9066 that led to the incarceration of Japanese Americans following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Young and old lived crowded together in hastily built camps, endured poor living conditions, and were under the constant watch of military guards for two and a half years. Meanwhile, brave Japanese American men risked their lives fighting for the United States. Some 40 years later, members of the Japanese American community led the nation to confront the wrong it had done—and urged Congress to make it right.

GUARDING THE SOUTH SOUND HOMELAND SECURITY THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY A formal, permanent National Guard of Washington came gradually and haltingly into existence in the decade before statehood. Originally deployed to support communities with urban fires, they later served the nation in a foreign conflict. Historian Bill Woodward locates this origin story in the South Sound area, and explains how the Guard’s dual mission continues to serve state and nation in the 21st century.

The City of Lacey provides reasonable accommodations to the public with disabilities. We invite you to contact the Parks, Culture and Recreation Department two (2) weeks in advance of the date a program begins or forty-eight (48) hours before meetings to discuss any special accommodations which are necessary. Individuals with disabilities may register for any program offered by the Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation Department provided program requirements can be met and the safety of other program participants is not affected.
