Lighting of the Christmas Tree & Lacey Lighted Parade Presented by

MONDAY • DECEMBER 6

6:30 – 7:30 pm • HUNTAMER PARK Parade starts at 6:30 pm, lighting of the park will follow Join the fun as we light up Lacey! Don’t miss the Lacey Lighted Parade of Vehicles as it travels down Sleater Kinney, 7th Ave, and past Huntamer Park! Follow the parade to the park and join us for the ‘Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree’ and all of Huntamer Park in an old-fashioned ceremony where Santa is the guest of honor!

After the lighting and through December, visit the park to enjoy the lights and tune in on your car radio to hear holiday music by local students and hear Santa read a story.

Brunch with Santa SATURDAY • DECEMBER 11

9 – 10:30 am • LACEY COMMUNITY CENTER Join us for a special holiday celebration with a buffet brunch, special crafts, and some Christmas magic! Of course, a visit with Santa will be the highlight of the morning and each family will receive a commemorative photo too! (Additional photos/poses available for purchase.) Breakfast will be prepared by the Lacey Sunrise Lions. Space is limited and this popular event sells out every year, so don’t wait!

Signing Santa FRIDAY • DECEMBER 3

6:30 – 9 pm • CHAMBERS PRAIRIE ELEMENTARY Signing Santa brings children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, their families, friends, and the community together. It’s a chance for all children to gather and see the spirit of giving, meet new friends, and promote awareness of the deaf community to all. This program is presented by the Signing Santa Organization and Lacey Parks, Culture & Recreation.

Early Childhood Preschool Explorations

(3–5 yrs) This class offers new experiences for your preschooler! Fun themes and activities will enhance both fine and gross motor skill development and keep your child engaged and interested. Your child will learn cognitive and social skills that prepare them for the next step as they sing, dance, create, explore, and play all while having fun. Participants must be potty trained. (6–10 yrs) Using software while working on laptops, kids will be able to program the model builds they craft using Bricks 4 Kidz model plans and LEGO® technology to create exciting dynamic cyber vehicles. Build and program a self-driving delivery truck, a personal pod that tumbles along, a dragster you can race, and a custom air show routine. This 4-week class provides a hands-on learning experience that actively involves young students in their own learning process while making lasting memories. S.T.E.A.M Together!

(3–7 yrs) Research shows activities that teach children about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math really help build a great foundation for education! But often these areas are hard for parents to find time or space and ideas on how to foster this learning in their children. This workshop takes all the work and worry out of the experience for you! Our instructor will plan an age-appropriate, STEAM-related activity, project, or experiment, collect all the supplies and set up the space for you and your child. Meet the Instructor Please welcome Ms. Jamie. She has almost 20 years of experience working with children of all ages and family structures, to include owning her own preschool for 10+ years and earning her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from SPSCC in 2010. She believes in a hands-on approach to learning and teaching young children, and loves to use art and science in the classroom.

First Aid CPR Class

(12+ yrs) Learn valuable “basic lifesaving skills.”

This one-day program covers issues of personal safety, blood-borne pathogens, choking, all levels of CPR, and other essential areas. This program provides a 2-year certification for infant, child, and adult first aid/CPR and meets L&I and DSHS child care requirements. Class covers but does not certify AED. Bring a sack lunch.

Earn A Bike

(11 - 17 yrs) Earn-A-Bike offers youth the chance to learn essential bicycle safety and maintenance skills. Classes focus on building confidence and knowledge to ride independently and safely. This year we are offering Earn-A-Bike classes through a remote-learning model. Participants will complete a collection of video-based lessons and quizzes which focus on biking for transportation.

Upon completion, program graduates are invited to attend an in-person bike fitting. Participants will need access to a computer or smart phone and internet access. A link will be provided prior to class. This program is offered as part of Intercity Transit’s Walk N Roll youth education program, with the support of grants secured in partnership with Thurston Regional Planning Council.

Introduction to your DSLR Camera

(18+ yrs) This class will elevate your photography skills and awaken your creative thinking so you can develop your own unique style of photography. Learn to use your camera to its’ full potential and create better and more interesting images, whether you’re new to DSLR or want to move beyond “auto” to use the buttons and screens you’ve been avoiding.

Camera features such as: the mode dial; info/i or Q buttons; menus; and photography concepts; exposure triangle; light; composition; and depth of field will be covered in class. The field trips will help you put your new skills into practice. We will review your images for a better understanding of camera features and photography concepts. Bring your camera with removable lenses and manual to each class.

Art of Photography

(18+ yrs) This is an intermediate photography class on the art of photography, not how to use your camera. For this class, you need to have been using your camera long enough to be familiar with the camera buttons and how to use the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO or have taken the Introduction to Your DSLR Camera class. This class will cover composition: how to look at a scene like a photographer and mistakes to avoid, along with concepts to remember: such as exposure triangle; depth of field; rule of thirds. We will be reviewing student images to increase your knowledge and improve your image shooting abilities.

Taiko Drumming

(16+ yrs) Taiko, the art of Japanese Drumming, is now available to you! If you have ever wondered what it is like to play the big drums, now is your chance! This is a physical activity that requires being able to stand for an hour and flex and stretch. No experience needed for the beginning class, and drums provided. Sport Sprouts Club

(3–6 yrs) Give your child the opportunity to enjoy a positive and successful introduction to sports skills through our Sport Sprouts Club program!

This is a 6-week, parent-participation program.

Each child must be accompanied by an adult or teen who is ready to help them learn. Whether your child is just beginning or has experience, our enthusiastic head coach will demonstrate the skills and direct you through each activity station.

All players receive a picture certificate and participation medal.

Girls Beginning Gymnastics

(5–10 yrs) Gymnastics is a sport that develops agility, strength, and self-esteem. Enroll your child and not only will she safely learn specific gymnastics skills, but she will also enjoy the opportunity to build confidence and new friendships! Basketball Lacey Youth Basketball

(Grades 2–6) Lacey Youth Basketball is back and looking to be better than ever. Your young ballplayer and the whole family can enjoy excitement and fun at the gym this fall as part of the Lacey Youth Basketball League! Whether it’s the happy moment of making the shot, or the joy of making new friends, your child will have a great experience. This program emphasizes skill-building and teamwork for girls and boys under the guidance of volunteer coaches. Our league motto is “All Adults Working for the Benefit of All the Children” and our recreation staff rovides support to ensure a positive atmosphere during league activities. All swimmers in Level 1, 2 & 3 are required to wear a “learn to swim” float vest (provided at pool) if less than 48 inches tall.

Instructors will introduce and guide swimmers through new strokes including back crawl, butterfly, and breast stroke while continuing to teach safety and skill refinement. CAPTAIN COOK REDISCOVERED Using illustrations that appear in his recent book, Captain Cook Rediscovered: Voyaging to the Icy Latitudes, Dave Nicandri will present a new side to the famous navigator. Rather than the tropical explorer we are accustomed to, Dave will introduce us to an entirely new figure: James Cook as the pioneering polar ice scientist. David Nicandri is the former executive director of the Washington State Historical Society and is an expert in the history of the Pacific Northwest’s exploration phase.

Adopt-A-Trail Program Our trails and parks are a great asset to the community but require a substantial amount of labor to maintain.

To keep these facilities in the best condition possible, Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation Department established an Adopt-A-Trail program to allow the community to participate in the maintenance and beautification of Lacey’s trails system. Through this program, volunteers adopt selected trails to perform some basic maintenance and cleanup. The Adopt-A-Trail Program allows those who use the trails to share in their stewardship and ensure they remain clean and enjoyable for the whole community.
