Dog Parks
Looking for a place to take your dogs where they can interact and socialize with other dogs? Los Alamos County has three dog parks where canine companions can run off-leash and engage in some canine interaction. All parks are fenced in, have water, benches, waste bags and garbage cans. Dogs must be friendly and current on vaccinations.
Overlook Park: 580 Overlook Rd., White Rock. East of the baseball fields - Some shade and grass.
East Park: 300 East Rd., Los Alamos. North of the playlot toward the canyon rim.
North Mesa: 750 North Mesa Park Rd. Located near the intersection of San Ildefonso and North Mesa Park Rd. Shade, water and dirt surfaces.
Skate Parks
Los Alamos Skate Park: 1000 Oppenheimer Dr.; In front of Mesa Public Library.
White Rock Skate Park: 99 Sherwood Blvd.
Ashley Pond Park
A downtown landmark dating back to ranch-school days, Ashley Pond Park was originally a natural depression. It is named after the founder of the Los Alamos Ranch School, Ashley Pond, and is a cherished place for walks, picnics, concerts, events and more. Amenities include a stage, restrooms, waterfall feature, boardwalks and wetlands.
Barranca Mesa Park
Located on Barranca Mesa, this park offers a pavilion, tennis courts, soccer fields, picnic tables, shade trees, restrooms and a play lot.
East Park
This park plays host to a picnic pavilion, basketball court and miniature golf course made from recycled playground equipment including a Cinderella carriage, a submarine, and a Conestoga wagon.
North Mesa Picnic Grounds
This 5-acre park is located in a ponderosa pine forest, and has three large and one small picnic pavilions, restrooms, picnic tables, and a 9-hole disc golf course. There is plenty of shade in the cool pines and the county trail network is nearby.
Overlook Park
Located in White Rock, the park contains many amenities including a wheelchair-accessible scenic overlook of White Rock Canyon, the Rio Grande, Remote Control Car Track, and the mountainous country to the East. With spectacular views and more than adequate space, it is a popular venue for soccer, softball, and baseball as well as special events.
Piñon Park
Piñon Park in White Rock has a large picnic pavilion, a splash pad, tennis courts, a play lot, a skateboard park, 9-hole disc golf course, and restrooms.
Rover Park
In White Rock, Rover Park has a play lot, a picnic pavilion, shade trees, picnic tables, a large open area, tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and restrooms.
Disc Golf Courses
Open year round. Discs are available to rent at the Aquatic Center front desk during regular business hours.
Los Alamos: 280 North Mesa Rd. 9-hole disc golf course situated among the trees and vegetation of North Mesa Picnic Grounds.
White Rock: 99 Sherwood Blvd. 9-hole disc golf course at Piñon Park in the natural piñon and juniper landscape.
Urban Park
A 9-acre park in the heart of Los Alamos with lighted tennis courts, Urban Park has a picnic pavilion, sand volleyball pit, soccer, baseball field, a paved loop for walking or running, a basketball court, play lot, and restrooms.
Camp May - 600 Camp May Road
Located near the Pajarito Ski Mountain area, and is located approximately 6 miles west (20-minute drive) of the Los Alamos town site. Camp May is closed from November - March. Electricity is not available at the Pavilion. This facility requires a permit through the Parks and Recreation Department. Permits are available April -October.
