BALCÓN CRIOLLO A gallery-wide installation of meaningful relics from the homes and hearts of our local community. There is a story behind every piece… stories about our neighborhoods, our countries or origin, our families and our culture. Inspired by the work of Puerto Rican artist Pepón Osorio, this grand installation is possible thanks to a collaboration between our Westside artist, Juan Cruz, and the producer of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month program at La Casita, Luz Encarnación. THANK YOU to all our friends and proud members of our community who so generously shared their treasured memories for this show. The exhibit will remain in view through the fall of 2013. Stay tuned for news about upcoming community gatherings to share stories, as part of this program at La Casita.

THE BALCONY How pleasant are the memories Evoked by the lovely balcony, It has been the scene of keen events Hallowed within living hearts. That nook has been the focus Of many family reunions Full of love and fervor; The railings that enclose it Enhance its grand design And reflect its noble worth. Along its stately length has passed A string human multitude Alive with verbal eloquence and passion Day in, day outThe nights have, also, made their route As each occasion warranted it. The moon and stars Have painted the sky like a universal canvas, And the luminous sun A pampering and lively soul Has coursed over it all aglow.
