Earlier this year I was honored to step into the role of Labconco’s President, working alongside our excellent team who have built the business over time. As the son of Steve Gound, I grew up witnessing firsthand the wonderful people, innovation, and quality craftsmanship that have defined our company since 1925. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to serve Labconco professionally as a Board Member, Executive Vice President and now President, which has shaped my viewpoint of what makes Labconco truly exceptional: our people, our partners and our customers.

As a result of our long-standing commitment to sell exclusively through distribution, our organization is specifically built to support partners throughout the sales process and create a seamless, high-quality experience for customers. We continue to adapt and improve our team structure to support the ever-changing markets we collectively service, and always appreciate ideas on how we can become an even better partner.

Still Fans of the Spectrum Blower

Every ducted fume hood needs an exhaust fan to function. Whether a new lab space or replacement fume hood, the exhaust fan must be addressed.

The Spectrum Exhaust Blower provides the perfect solution for any fume hood and has simplified the blower selection process for everyone. The 1-horsepower models have an excellent performance range to support the exhaust requirements of hoods up to 8' wide and prepared for either 115V OR 230V, single phase electrical circuits. The 2-horsepower models, available in 230V (Single or three-phase), have an extended range to provide the needed CFM for 8' and wider fume hoods.

Spectrum blowers also come in materials compatible with the transportation of various chemical hazards:

Epoxy coated steel, fiberglass reinforced polyester resin (FRP), and Type-1 PVC. Not sure which material to recommend? Simply match the material of the blower with the liner of the fume hood it will support.

Installation of these blowers is also streamlined. With RPM selection via on-board potentiometer or universal communication input selection of 0-10v or 4-20mA, the time to get a fume hood up and running is dramatically reduced. Whether replacing an old blower in an on/off application or full Building Management System integration, installers love working with these exhaust fans.

This innovative accessory redefines sample preservation by allowing researchers to lyophilize and seal samples directly within flexible bags under vacuum. This eliminates the limitations of traditional methods that rely on glass serum vials or ampules, opening up a world of possibilities for sample types and sizes.

The Lyph-Seal Tray Dryer utilizes a unique bag sealing mechanism that sets it apart from conventional freezedrying techniques. Instead of confining samples to rigid containers, researchers can now utilize flexible, zippersealed bags that conform to the shape of their samples. This creates a robust vapor barrier, effectively blocking humidity and extending the shelf life of valuable samples. For added protection, a commercially available impulse sealer can be used to create a secondary heat seal on the Lyph-Seal Sample Bags, further safeguarding your samples from moisture.

In August, we released the latest, fourth-generation Logic ® Class II

Biosafety Cabinets. The redesigned Logic is full of new and innovative features that improve on intelligence, sustainability, and comfort. As always, our new Logic was designed by our experienced team of scientists and engineers and ensures your customers get the best in safety, performance, and dependability.

What’s new? On the exterior, the new Logic features a refreshed look that includes bright, Optic White™ paint and fresh graphics. On the interior, a larger 5" display with Logic OS software platform offers exclusive touchscreen

capabilities within the cabinet and gives your customers a whole new level of control. The Mag-Zone™, an innovative new way to store common BSC items such as pipettes or biohazard waste, improves organization for your customers. On the performance side, the new Logic incorporates BalanceFlow™ plenum technology with our industry leading CAP™ (Constant Airflow Profile) airflow technology. This new technology reduces your customers energy consumption and noise levels by over 30% and helps increase HEPA filter life – now typically 10+ years.

To complete the overall redesign, the Logic Cart has also been upgraded. Expanding Research with Safe and Efficient Lab Spaces

A large nonprofit academic research institution recently unveiled 45,000 square feet of new laboratory space to support its groundbreaking work. As part of the project, the facility integrated 19 Labconco Protector ® XStream® Fume Hoods, along with several floor-mounted models. The expansion increased their lab capacity by over 60%, allowing researchers to safely tackle complex challenges across disciplines such as immunotherapy, computational biology, and vaccine development.

Abzena’s Rapid Growth in Biopharma Manufacturing

Abzena, a fast-growing contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), expanded its operations to meet increasing demand for biologics and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

At their San Diego Lusk Facility, Labconco’s Logic ®+ Class II, Type A2 Biosafety Cabinets (BSCs) have become an integral part of critical processes, including master cell bank preparation and inoculum expansion.
