Project Overview: Softscape and Hardscape Redesign of an English Garden, Calne, Wiltshire
In this project, I undertook a complete redesign of a traditional English garden, located in the historic town of Calne, Wiltshire. The goal was to preserve the garden’s classic charm while enhancing both the softscape (living elements) and hardscape (structural features).
Key Elements of the Design:
Softscape:
I reimagined the planting scheme with a mix of native and ornamental plants, maintaining the lush, layered look of an English garden. The design emphasized seasonal variation, ensuring year-round interest with flowering borders, hedges, and perennials.
Special attention was given to creating a tranquil atmosphere, with curated plantings that attract wildlife and promote biodiversity.
Hardscape:
The hardscape redesign involved refurbishing the stone pathways and patios to integrate modern materials while respecting the garden’s historic setting. A new seating area was introduced using natural stone to offer a foc
