THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF BANGSBO FORT lies at a hight of 82 meters with a formidable view of Frederikshavn and Kattegat. In clear weather you can see as far as to Skagen, Sæby and the island of Læsø. Bangsbo Fort consists of a fortress built by the German occupation during the Second World War. The fortress was later expanded by the Royal Danish Navy during the Cold War. Bangsbo Fort has thus been used during two historical periods, which is quite unique in comparison with other fortresses from the German occupation in Denmark. The fortress consists of 80 concrete bunkers, of which 70 were built during the Second World War. The Bunker Museum shows the part of the fortress, which is no longer in use by the navy. As a visitor some of the bunkers are open all year round and others are only accessible for visitors during the opening hours of the museum. At the welcome centre of the museum there is a ticket office, a museum shop and a mini café.

Understedvej 21, Frederikshavn

THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF SKAGEN is a combined open air and exhibition museum. Here you can visit three historical Skagen houses from three different architectural periods defined by different colours: The Black period (until approximately 1875), the Yellow period (approximately 1875-1907) and the Red period (from 1907). Apart from the historical houses you can also see special exhibitions on fishing, maritime rescue service and seafaring. The exhibitions provide an introduction to the interesting history of Skagen and to the dramatic life by the coast. Should you be interested in booking a guided tour in English please send a request to info@kystmuseet.dk The Coastal Museum in Skagen has a nice café and a museum shop, where you can find different books, souvenirs etc. You can find more information on our website or on our Facebook page.

P.K. Nielsens Vej 10, Skagen

THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF BANGSBO is situated in the beautiful manor of Bangsbo. The manor dates back to 1364 and it lies in the heart of the idyllic Bangsbo area. The primary exhibition at the manor shows the life around 1900 when the manor was owned by the bon vivant Johan Knudsen. Due to Johan Knudsen the manor of Bangsbo became a hot spot for some of the most known Scandinavian writers and artists around 1900. They formed a cultural and festive fellowship called the Circle of Bangsbo. So when you visit Bangsbo you can walk in the footsteps of the writer Herman Bang and get a fascinating glimpse of the colorful life at the manor. In the building opposite the manor house you will find an exhibition about the German occupation in Denmark and Northern Jutland. There is also a collection that exhibits seafaring from the middle ages up until today. The crown jewel is a unique ship from 1163: Ellingåskibet. The Coastal Museum of Bangsbo has a ticket office, a nice café and a museum shop with books and souvenirs in the main building.

Dronning Margrethes Vej 6, Frederikshavn THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF SÆBY (Saeby) is located in the historical half-timbered building ”Consul Ørum’s Farm”. The Farm originates from the 17th century but it achieved its current appearance around 1800. The exhibition at the Coastal Museum gives an introduction to the historical development of the charming borough, where you will still find several historical buildings that originate from the middle ages. During the middle ages the borough of Sæby was influenced by the Carmelite Order, who established a local convent around 1460 (today the church of Sæby). The museum has an exhibition with a virtual introduction to the fascinating history behind the church of Sæby and its unique frescoes. The Coastal Life of Sæby is another theme that is unfolded at the museum. The Stream of Sæby was the only natural harbour in the region until 1879, and the stream gave prosperity to a wide range of craftsmen and local businesses. This prosperity and development continued with the finding of a local Iron Well around 1883. Also, feel free to visit the museum’s old Country Store with selected specialty and nostalgic items.
