Welcome to BANGSBO FORT 4045

This weekend, June 3rd to June 4th, you may enjoy a spectacular event, when you visit the “Bangsbo Fort 4045” event, which has been arranged by The Coastal Museum of Northern Jutland.

For two days the former German defensive structure Bangsbo Fort has been transferred into presenting World War 2 and especially D-Day (the battle of Normandy) in 1944.

Anders Tøttrup Nielsen (Lecture)

Anders Tøttrup Nielsen is a historian specializing in cultural heritage and since 2022 he has been a curator at The Coastal Museum of Northern Jutland. He has done research into “The Victims of Nazism” the last couple of years, resulting in laying out so-called Stolpersteine (stumbling blocks) in six different towns within the municipality of Frederikshavn. Stumbling blocks are small memorial stones the size of a cobble. They are placed in the pavement where a victim of Nazism last stayed – typically the victim’s home or workplace. They are the world’s biggest decentralized memorials with more than 90,000 stumbling blocks spread all over most of Europe.

The work with the victims of Nazism has turned into the exhibition “Victims of Nazism – 39 fates” at Bangsbo Fort. Here you will learn about the individual fates of different people. Men active in the resistance movement who died in concentration camps, fishermen and sailors whose ships hit mines or were torpedoed and many more, who became victims of Nazism during the German occupation of Denmark.
