FUNction Reception

At KPTA’s Fall FUNction – you’re the star! This year’s event is designed to surpass you’re expectations in education, information, networking and just plain fun.

Our Fall FUNction reception is being held on Friday, September 26 at 7:00p.m. (EDT) at the Barrel House (903 Manchester Street, Lexington). Appetizers will be provided and a cash bar will be available. Exhibitors will be at the reception and the following awards will be presented:

What Does Registration Include?

Your registration includes the following:  Admission to the FUNction Reception (appetizers provided, cash bar).  Access to the exhibitors (exhibits held in conjunction with the FUNction reception).  Admission to your choice of educational programming.  Lunch on Saturday afternoon.

“Out-Think Being Out-Sized: Manual Therapy Approaches for the Not-So- Large Clinician ,” presented by Charles Hazle, PT, PhD and Matt Lee, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT Description: Evidence continues to accumulate as to the effectiveness of manual therapy and exercise for the management of patients with a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. The performance of these manual techniques may cause considerable strain on physical therapists. The complexity of this problem is increasing with rising rates of obesity in the US. The prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders is problematic with risk factors including younger age and being female. Many clinicians, smaller in stature, encounter difficulties in performance of manual therapy techniques, including exposing themselves to elevated risk of injury. This course is designed for clinicians, who seek to be effective manual therapists, but encounter problems due to being frequently outsized by their patients. Within the context of an evidence-guided approach, this course will present opportunities for clinicians to learn a variety of techniques to render effective thrust and non-thrust techniques in problem-solving around being out-sized by their patients. Using a diverse set of methods and their personal experiences of being not-so-large, the course instructors will present several options with ample opportunity to practice manual therapy techniques for daily use in management of common musculoskeletal disorders.

“Functional Outcomes Across the Continuum of Care,” presented by Pam Heissenbuttel, PT, MSPT, ACHCE; Eric Mooney, PT, MPT, Cert. MDT, MBA; Mathew Nicholls, MD, PhD; Andrew Ryan, MD and Charlie Workman, PT, MBA Description: This course will focus on contributing factors to the rise in osteoarthritis, strategies for treatment, and surgical advances in total knee and total hip arthroplasty provided by Dr. Mathew Nichols and Dr. Andrew Ryan. An overview of proposed healthcare changes and its impact on Post acute care (PCA) management of elective joint patients through the continuum of care will also be covered with an emphasis on functional measures and discharge planning strategies for each level of care.
