What an amazing month September has been for us! Some of the highlights for me personally were: Interventions started for our youngest learners in K-2 helping them make up for learning loss. We survived the craziest heat wave in recent years. We welcomed back volunteers come back on campus to help out in the rooms and on field trips. We celebrated some amazing students at our monthly Character Trait assembly who demonstrated self-control and responsibility. This month we are looking forward to the adventures that many of our students will be taking as they go on field trips to places like the fish hatchery, Bishop's Pumpkin Farm, raft on the Yuba River to see the salmon spawn, and Farm Day at the fairgrounds. Outside learning opportunities are where the connection to the classroom and the real world really happen and we are so thankful that we are getting the opportunities to embark on these once again. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to go on these trips or have donated financially to make it all possible. We could not do this without you!

Red Ribbon Week 10/25-10/28 We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week this month where we will focus on making healthy choices and understanding the implications of poor choices. Dress up days for the week will be as follows: Monday - No School Tuesday - Proud to be Drug Free (Wear Red) Wednesday - Cubs Don't do Drugs (Wear Blue or Kynoch Swag) Thursday - My Superpower is to be Drug Free (Dress as your favorite Superhero) Friday - Sock it to Drugs! (Crazy Sock Day)

For the low cost of $5, you can have your child's name displayed on the marquee in front of the school on their special day. Stop by the office and ask for the form to fill out at least a week before their day and we will get it posted for you!

Halloween - Monday 10/31

Yearbooks go on sale in October!

Many have been asking if students can wear costumes to school on Halloween and the answer is "yes" with some exceptions. We ask that no props like swords or weapons be brought to school. We also ask that no masks be worn during the school day.

We had a great response to yearbook sales last year. We sold every copy and we hope to do the same this year! More information to come so keep your eyes open for fliers/posts on social media.

Volunteers Needed and welcomed As mentioned in the Principal's Corner, we are excited to have volunteers back on campus. We have listened to the needs of families and are now offering the volunteer training online. Visit our website (www.kynoch.mjusd.com) and click on the tab that says "Volunteers." Through that tab, you can read through the Volunteer Handbook and then take the Volunteer Quiz. You will also need to provide a current TB test and be cleared with the Dept. of Justice by having your fingerprints scanned. To start this process, see the office staff and they will get you the necessary forms to get the ball rolling.

In an effort to be held accountable to the families at Kynoch Elementary, the administration team has developed an online form that you can fill out to let us know about issues that you are having here at school. The form is simple to use and when you are finished, automatically sends ALL of the office staff an email letting them know that a new entry has been created. We have been working hard to listen to you and try to rectify situations that have been popping up but we have let some people down. With the use of this form, we see instantly what the needs are and promise to respond before the end of the day. It may feel impersonal but we are asking that you use this so we can ensure that issues are being addressed and your voice is being heard. We appreciate your willingness to use this new tool. It can be found on our website at www.kynoch.mjusd.com. Just click on the tab that says "I need to see the Principal." Again, we look forward to working with you and appreciate your willingness to try new things.

Things to know at Kynoch Have your ID ready "Raptor" is our software program that we use to verify people's identity and confirm that they are allowed to check out students. Once your id is scanned into the system, you will be in there for the school year. Student safety is our priority so please work with us to keep your students safe while they are here in our care.

Drop-off and Pick-up As you already know, traffic around the school gets busy quickly. Please proceed with caution. If you are parked across the street. please use the crosswalks and model for your child safe and responsible behavior. Slow down enough to practice selflessness. We have had some near misses because people are in a hurry and almost hit a car or worse, a student. Also, make sure that you communicate with your child where you are picking them up.

Saying Goodbye in the morning

We love to have families on campus as they drop off their loved ones but with safety being our main priority, we ask that you drop them off and leave promptly. If you want to stay with them while they eat breakfast, we ask that you get the meal and head to the outdoor eating area. When they are finished, drop them off in the cafeteria or on the playground, with a teacher or yard duty. Please leave promptly after that. There are too many people on campus to keep track of and it is creating a safety issue for our campus.

Sending Healthy Snacks to School Please remind your child that sharing food with friends at school is not allowed. Too many students have dietary restrictions and sharing food could trigger a physical reaction for some. We also ask that you send your child with healthy snack choices ie. fruit, crackers, cheese sticks. Potato chips, candy bars, and sodas are not what their bodies need to fuel them for the day, plus, it draws a crowd and children want them to share with them. Help us solve this problem by planning a healthy snack for them ahead of time.
