Meanwhile, chemical substances/substance groups included in the Candidate List of "Substances of Very High Concern" (SVHC) according to EU REACH regulation (REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006) are classified as "SVHC," while some chemical substances/substance groups published in the "Joint Industry Guide " (JIG-101) are categorised as "Controlled substances excluding SVHC." "SVHC" and "Controlled substances excluding SVHC" are designated as "controlled chemical substances (Level B)." When "controlled chemical substances (Level B)" are intentionally included, suppliers are required to identify and report the content (density) because these substances will be subject to restrictions in the future. To help build a sustainable society, suppliers are encouraged to actively work on the conservation of biological diversity and formulate plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Production related certifications and credentials, including eco-design RoHS Directive compliance (all Brother products) RoHS is short for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances." This EU directive (enforced in 2006) prohibits the use of harmful substances contained in electrical and electronic equipment (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)) in principle. EU REACH regulation compliance (all Brother products) REACH is short for "Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals." This regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals in Europe (enforced in 2007) aims to protect human health and the environment.

Consider to minimise number of employees to attend meetings overseas Promote the use of video conference system amongst offices Encourage to share a taxi at staff functions Head office relocation from Wellington to Tauranga in 2014 has reduced emissions from domestic air travel (Auckland – Wellington) as Auckland staff travels to head office by road, a less emissions option.
Electricity consumption We have EcoPoint program, sustainability initiative in the company. It is a program where Brother New Zealand donates to a worthy environmental project (current project is Sustainable Coastlines); the amount depends on daily employee environmental initiatives and activities. Brother employees collect “EcoPoints” whenever they complete environmentally sound activities, these will be specified each month on the Intranet via simple questionnaires. Energy saving is challenged by EcoPoint program to all staff at work and home. The target is 1% reduction year on year.

Freight management The target is to reduce emission from freight air travel long haul by 66% from the carboNZero base year 2012 by YE 03/2018.
Fuel consumption Brother has about 20 passenger vehicles. We run awareness campaign for efficient driving and car maintenance by EcoPoint program.
Stationary procurement: production-related and support products
Waste management Operational control (paper, plastic, glass, coffee capsule, batteries recycling) is in place. Target has been set and monitored/actioned by the environmental committee. Recycling programme (Brother labelling machines, printers, multifunctional devices and their consumables) Brother offers the most comprehensive waste management and end-of-life recycling programme provided by any New Zealand print manufacturer. We recover and recycle over 100,000 printer cartridges every year with no cost to end-users. Also Brother launched printer cartridges recycling programme in Fiji in 2017.
