Domestic Disturbance puts the viewer in the position of proffering their perception of the compromised “image” of family values gone array and insures that their imagination is inadequate. This is not a show that is attempting to investigate the darker underbelly of a nation doomed by rape, incest, sodomy, bestiality and suicide; although all these themes are prevalent in the artists that have been banished to “our” room. Humor or at least irony, is the unifying artistic crime. We have our pal Paul McCarthy putting the Con back in to deconstruction. Is Liberatore’s adorning naked nuns with blowjob lips the fantasy of every Catholic schoolboy or the possessor of the lips? Jim Shaw, has been banned from most shrink’s couches, his imagery, just too challenging for soap box cliché psychotherapy. Mr. Altoon, unleashes his full satirical arsenal to stir up the banality of suburban monotony. Elliot Spitzer, stop jumping up and down on your soapbox. There is no moral turpitude, just your bad attitude. The message of Domestic Disturbance; one creature’s idea of “disturbed,” is the state of blissful stability for another. Maybe its better to pose the judicious questions then advocate an answer.
