ACA - How Did We Get Here?

Margaret Levi, Counsel, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, LLP The Affordable Care Act launched a new era in the American health care system by increasing access to health insurance coverage, expanding federal private health insurance market requirements, and requiring the creation of health insurance exchanges to provide individuals and small employers with access to insurance among other things. This session will provide a general overview of the provisions in the Affordable Care Act, focusing on its combination of incentives and mandates applicable to employers, as well as discussing the history of its creation and looking at how it has changed as it has been fleshed out through regulations.

Employer Mandate: What Do I Do Now? Sherry Porter, Counsel, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, LLP Nearly every employer will be impacted in some way by the Affordable Care Act. Whether it be notice requirements, coverage mandates, or shared responsibility payments, employers must be up to speed on the ACA. While the employer shared responsibility reporting requirements and penalties have been delayed until 2015, many other ACA requirements become effective January 1, 2014. Make sure you know how to assess and mitigate your risks as new provisions of the ACA come into effect.

Legislative and Case Law Update Doug McSwain, Partner, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, LLP This sweeping health care reform has not been universally embraced, and the constitutionality of various provisions in the Affordable Care Act has been challenged in the courts with varying degrees of success.

This session will provide a legislative update on efforts to "repeal" and "replace" the Affordable Care Act and a case law update regarding ongoing legal challenges to the law.

Individual Mandate: What Do I Do Now? Sherry Porter, Counsel, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, LLP The most controversial provision in the Affordable Care Act is the “individual mandate� provision, which requires individuals to buy minimum essential health insurance coverage or else pay a penalty. In this session, you will learn about the individual mandate and how it impacts the entire Affordable Care Act. 10:45 a.m.

The Healthcare Marketplace: Open for Business Carrie Banahan, Executive Director, Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange Beginning in 2014, states will begin offering health insurance exchanges, permitting individuals and small businesses to compare policies and premiums and leverage their collective buying power to purchase health insurance at rates competitive to those charged by large employer plans. We have invited representatives of the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange to provide an inside look at the implementation of kynect: Kentucky's Healthcare Connection.

The Changing Face of Health Care Delivery and Options for Business Marketplace Doug McSwain, Partner, Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, LLP Health care delivery is changing due to the Affordable Care Act with a significant move toward "accountable care," and away from the traditional "pay for services" model. This session will address how "accountable care" is affecting the market for health care services for employers and their health plan, as well as for individuals. This session will further address the options for businesses resulting from the changing face of health care delivery.
