I enjoyed my spring break because I spent time with my brother. We went to the park, and we watched a movie, too. It was also fun because my family celebrated Easter. We went to church to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. Then, we went to the Croton Park with other friends to find Easter eggs. We had a picnic, too, and we ate BBQ and won prizes!

Do you like summer? I believe that summer is the best season. Summer is hot and fun. There is also no school during the summer. (That makes it even better!) You can also eat ice cream, popsicles, and other cold treats. The best part is that you can go in the pool! And you just get to take a break from working hard. Yay summer!
One reason why summer is the best is that you can go in the pool. Swimming in cool water makes it feel nice on a hot day. It’s also good exercise. You can also play with friends or family in the pool. You can play water polo, tag, etc. Or you can just sit around sunbathing if you don’t want to get wet. Instead of going to the pool, you could go to the beach. When you go to the beach, you can play in the sand, and/or the water.
Therefore, summer is the best because you can go to the pool.
Another reason is that you can go on vacation. You can go on a family vacation, or you can go with friends. If you want to be outside, you can go camping. Summer is also the perfect time for travel. So, you can hop on a plane and go somewhere out of the USA with family or friends. Then you can have some family/friend time. Therefore, another reason is that you can go on vacation.
All of this proves that summer is the best season. You can eat cool treats, go on vacation, play in the pool, sunbathe, etc. now, before it’s too late, go outside to enjoy yourself in summer! Summer is the best out of the four seasons.

This includes your real name, password, address, and phone number. 2- Tell your parents if you see something that makes you feel uncomfortable. 3- Don’t post pictures of you or your friends without your parents’ permission. 4- Check with your parents first before downloading an app. 5- Use strong passwords. Strong passwords contain 8-20 characters, letters and numbers. Don’t put in personal information as your password. Try changing your password every few months. Cyber bullying When you are cyber bullied, you keep on being bullied online. A cyber bully uses technology to send threatening messages and viruses. When people are cyber bullied, they can feel sad, angry, or embarrassed. If you get cyber bullied, tell an adult right away. If your friend gets cyber bullied, send nice messages to him. If your friend is cyber bullying, tell them how the victim may feel. If you feel uncomfortable, tell an adult. Now since you know about online safety, you are no longer afraid. A lot of people want phones, but do they know what a phone can do to their brain? Well, a phone could make you a little dumb if you only play games and watch YouTube. And you could seem rude if you ignore people who are talking to you while you are busy looking at your phone. You can hurt your neck by always looking down at your phone and your thumbs can have problems if you send a lot of text messages. Also, the light coming from the phone can hurt your eyes and make it hard to sleep if you use your phone at night. If you are distracted by your phone, you can get into a car accident. If you are walking and looking at your phone, you might fall down.
But sometimes your phone can save your life, like if you had to call 911! You can also call your parents if you need help, like if the bus breaks down or you are stuck at school. You can call your friends and family if they live far away and you miss them. You can use the apps on your phone to read. (There’s an app called Libby that you can put on your iPhone to read books—there are some really good books on Libby). And you can also get an app called Messages where you can text important (or not important) messages. The point is that you just have to be careful with your phone and use it responsibly.

I noticed that all the younger kids (Under 5th grade) said “no”, and Kate (in 6th grade) said “yes.” Isn’t that weird? The older kids probably said, “yes” because they use the internet. Do you like your smartphone or any other kind of device? Do you think it is the perfect piece of technology? Well, your iPhone can make some errors. Sometimes your device can randomly shut down when you are in the middle of something important. A battery mixer can malfunction. Technology has started to take over our lives, and people are starting to take technology for granted because humans are creating technology which obeys human’s orders. In the future, I bet that people will have robots that do everything for us, but those kinds of robots can make us lazy. In this

time, people are texting each other and the people that they are texting are in the SAME room. So, what I’m saying is people are on their devices and not actually socializing with one another. For my proof, I need to ask you this simple question: have you ever seen the Disney movie Wall-E? On the ship, all the people were lazy and fat. Well that was because they didn’t exercise and because they had robots that did everything for them (sorry for the spoilers if you didn’t see Wall-E). Does Popularity Matter? By Alina Hara
By Joseph Acampora People think that going online is fun, but playing outside is better. I made a survey on going online and going outdoors and here are the results! One kid said that he would rather go shopping online than going out to the mall. Another one told me that he would go online because there are so many video games to play. The final kid I asked who voted for online said that he prefers to go online to play his favorite game, which is Minecraft. There were also people that liked to go outside better. A few people said that they would go outside because you can get more exercise than inside. One person said that he would rather go outside because there are lots of good sports to play. Someone else expressed that he would go outside because you can interact with your friends more. In my opinion, going outside is better because you can learn new skills for different sports. In conclusion, going outside is better than going online on a device!
Popularity is something that matters to a lot of kids in school. But does popularity really matter? And who does it matter to? Sometimes it seems that popularity is based on appearance or friend groups. For example someone might come to school in trendy new clothes or expensive shoes and receive a lot of attention for their new look. This attention can become addictive almost like playing video games. It gets to the point that getting that attention for the way you look or act becomes a priority and you start to hang out with people who share that same priority. These are often the people who are labeled as popular because they are well known, but maybe they’re well known for the wrong reasons What if different qualities made you popular? Instead of looks and
friend groups, what if popularity was based on trust, kindness, and doing the right thing? What if you were noticed for being a good listener or standing up for people who are treated badly? These are qualities of a good person but they don’t always make people popular. We should not be concerned about ranking ourselves. All of the pressure of acting or looking a certain way can lead to stress and caring about things we should not care about. It is great to be well known, but what matters is what we are well known for. If popularity would be based on trust, kindness, and doing the right thing, then yes popularity matters. But if popularity continues to be based on appearance and friends, then I don’t want to be part of that popularity contest.

Are pitbulls dangerous? Well, it depends on the owner. If the owner is cruel to the animal, the animal will be defensive and fight back. If the owner is nice and treats the dog right, the dog will be nice. People all around the globe fear this dog just because of what they have heard about the dog. Half of the people don’t own the dog, so they
don’t what it is actually like to own one.
Some states and countries don’t even allow people to own pitbulls. Some do allow pitbulls but have rules. There is a rule for example that pitbull dogs must have something like a towel or toy at all time to make sure that their jaw is secure. This is because pitbulls have strong jaws.
So, are pitbulls dangerous? No, not exactly. It depends on the owner.

The squire then jumped off his horse and said, “I will go get it. I am not afraid to go into the

Most people think, “Oh, since you’re in America, that must mean you’re American.” But does that have to be true? The real answer is NO! Because I live in the USA and I am Italian. That means my family is from Italy. So where are you from? China, Cuba, Mexico, South or North Korea, Brazil, or Germany? (There are other ones, too).
I’ll give you some facts about Italy: Did you know that Pizza was made in Italy? Pasta was also created in Italy. Italian schools have school on Saturday mornings. Their regular school hours are 8:00am - 4:00pm. That’s a long school day! Italy, if you don’t know, is located in South Europe. You know what? If you wanted to go on a vacation, I would not go to Italy, because that is a really long trip to travel. You might not want to listen to this because it is about MY culture, but if you ever wanted to study Italy, then this would give you some information. Did you know that... *Italy is the 5th most populated country in Europe. *Italy is the largest producer of wine in the world. *More than a third of single Italian men between ages 30-35 live with their parents. *51% of Italians cannot afford a vacation. My name is Kelly Constantino. I am 10 yrs old and in the fifth grade Dual Language program. I started Dual Language in kindergarten. At first, it was frustrating, but now I am able to help my younger brother with his Spanish homework. I am so amazed at what I have learned. My favorite sport is swimming. I have been swimming competitively year round since I was 5 yrs old. I swim 5 days a week after school and on the weekends. My favorite part about competitive swimming is the friendships I have made. My least favorite thing is getting up at 5:30am to go to a swim meet. I also play basketball, lacrosse and softball. My favorite instrument to play is the cello. I like to play sports because they are fun, they keep me active and in shape, and I meet so many friends. I live with my parents, my two brothers and our dog. I joined Cherry Tree Press because I enjoy creative writing. It is very fun to write an article and share it with the rest of the school. I encourage all to join Cherry Tree Press.

Why Do People Drink Bottled Water? By Joseph Acampora
Did you know over 100 years ago people used to drink a lot of bottled water? They drank so much of it because tap water sometimes could cause people to get diseases, like cholera and typhoid. Then, around 100 years ago, chlorine was used to make public water clean. Bottled water was pushed aside as people drank tap water again. So, why is bottled water so popular today? In the United States, each person drinks an average of 41.9 gallons of bottled water per year. It is safer than tap water because it does not contain copper, lead and other metal contaminants that can get into water through the plumbing in your home. Here are some reasons to like bottled water less. Some people don’t like bottled water because a lot of energy is required to make it. Making it also generates pollution. Some plastic bottles are bad because they take over 700 years to disintegrate. Tap water has fluoride added into it, which is very good for your teeth. Bottled water has little or none at all in it. Some bottled water has salt added to it, that makes people thirsty and wanting to buy more bottles, and spend more money. Do you think that bottled water is necessary?

Some myths are most likely to have Gods like Shiva (destroyer and rebuilder), Ogar (God of iron and gold), Thor (God of thunder) and Zeus (God of Sky). These are some of the main Gods of the many. Every Myth has a story behind it. Some are told verbally, and some are told in books in schools. In my opinion I do not like myths because they are not real. Stories should be real because then people like me can include them in articles. My friend Lauren Rogers thinks that stories should be real because you should be able to ask questions about life instead of asking questions on something that might not even exist and I agree with her as I share the same thought.

My 5th Grade Orchestra Experience By Illiana Troy My name is Illiana, and I am in the GW 5th grade Orchestra. I play the violin. Playing a string
instrument is definitely one of the most painful, yet enjoyable, types of instruments anyone can play! In order to play certain notes, it requires that you press extremely hard on thick strings, or the sound will not only be different but it will also sound terrible. Many times, after three days of practice sessions, my fingers will have huge, deep dents in them because of the strings. Even though playing in the
Orchestra is painful, I love it because my three best friends also play the violin, like me! It makes it easier and more comforting with friends around that are experiencing the same things. Another reason I love about being in Orchestra is that I got picked to play in the White Plains City Wide Orchestra concert after only playing my instrument for 7 months! Best of all, our orchestra teacher, Mrs. Hickey, is amazing! Even though Mrs. Hickey is not teaching for the rest of the year, she has left us in good hands with Mr. U., our nice and funny substitute teacher. As you can see, there are many reasons to love the GW Orchestra! I hope you consider playing in this fun group one day.

In my opinion I think that slime can and cannot be safe for kids. I think that slime can be safe for kids. Slime is a weird and interesting substance that is made with glue, food coloring, and any kind of beads or add-ins like foam beads or sprinkle-like beads. Then, at the end of the process, you add activator. If you use contact solution or Tide as your activator, you are aware of the things you put into
your slime, and you have made a safe slime. On the other hand, I think that slime is not safe for kids if you use borax as your activator. Then, you are unaware that borax is a chemical that you can get first to third degree burns from! Slime has its satisfactions— such as how stretchy and crunchy it is—but beware of what you put in it because you might be putting a harmful ingredient.

Cats Are Important By Molly Powers
Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. Ancient Egyptians believed that cats were magical creatures, capable of bringing good luck to the people that housed them. Cats were so important in Egypt that people used to put jewelry on their cats! And if someone killed a cat in Egypt (even by accident) the punishment was death. An owner would shave off his or her eyebrows when their cat died and would mourn until their eyebrows grew back.
In the Muslim religion, cats are also considered very important. They say that the prophet Mohammed loved his cat Muezza so much that he cut off the sleeve of his robe rather than wake him up. Cats are permitted in mosques
My Dog Enzo
By Ivan Touboulet My dog is a chihuahua\shih tzu\Yorkshire terrier. He is a very cute dog. He likes to play with blueberries. He rolls them around and tries to get them in his mouth, but he can’t! So, he tries and tries and… he finally gets a berry and eats it! At my mom’s house, someone has two huskies. Someone else has a golden retriever. The huskies are very big and very fluffy and they play together a lot. My dog (Enzo) is afraid of them, but the huskies really want to make friends with Enzo. The golden retriever is also very cute. They have flappy ears and golden fur. Enzo hates her! He fights her and runs away.

He would jump onto their bed and stay curled up next to them until they did. He predicted 50 deaths, usually within 4 hours! Some people think cats are mean, but cats are important to many people. I recommend that you get a cat!
In Belarus, my dad’s country, I have a German Shepherd. German Shepherds are very smart. There, we have an apple tree. Usually, I take half-rotten (or normal) apples from the ground and throw them. She goes after the apple and brings it back! She also likes to swim, as I do! I asked everyone at Cherry Tree Press about what their favorite dog breeds are. Golden retriever won, husky came second, then Yorkshire terrier, shih tzu and chihuahua. German shepherd came last. Enzo is still my favorite! One day, his friend lobster said, “ Artist Olivia Saja Try a skateboard instead.” Crab tried and he fit on perfectly. He was sideways so he balanced really well. He skated around everywhere. He was very happy on his new skateboard.

If you have a dog, then you know that dogs are really fun. But dogs require a lot of work, too. You have to walk them when you come home from school and pick up their poop. You have to feed them and keep fresh water in their bowl. You have to take them to the vet for check-ups and when they are sick. Some dogs cannot stay home alone so they need to go to doggy daycare, or you have to hire a dog-walker who can come to your house during the day to walk your dog when you are at school or work. That can be expensive. It takes time to train your dog to only go to the bathroom outside and not to eat things they shouldn’t. If you want them to learn tricks,
that takes time, too. You need to give them treats and lots of praise, so they know when they did something right and they learn how to behave. We have a rescue dog name Toby and he barks at everyone. I know that he is trying to protect us because he loves us and wants to keep us safe, but it can be scary for my friends and neighbors. That is the only thing I would change about him. Rescue dogs are special because they usually come from the streets. Nice people who love animals find them and bring them to a shelter where they are safe and can be adopted to a family that will take better care of them. If you want a dog, you should adopt a rescue dog because you are saving a life when you adopt.

Did you know that all puppies are born color blind? Well, now you know that all puppies can only see black and white when they open their eyes. Speaking of which, puppies don’t open their eyes and ears until they are two to three weeks old. There are different breeds of puppies. Do you know what breeds are? Breeds are types of dogs. The breed that I like best is the Yorkie. Yorkies are small dogs— they only grow to 5 to 7 pounds, but they are filled with confidence and courage. Their coats are brown and black when they are puppies, but by the time they are one years old, their coats change to steel blue and tan. They need to meet lots of people to socialize, so when baby Yorkies are born, they need to see around 100 people. Yorkie puppies are very fragile, so when handling them you have to be very careful. They can easily break a bone or two. I hope that you love Yorkie puppies as much as I do. The next time you are at a pet store look for Yorkies and other puppies, you may want to take them home!

One day I was napping in my cage when... SLAM! The door shot open. Olivia, my owner, rushed in. “Oreo!” She shouted. I pricked up one ear. “Sniff?” “Oh, come on Oreo! We got into an animal contest,” Olivia explained. “The best animal wins.” After Olivia carried me to the bath and filled it with warm water, she scrubbed me with some nice smelling stuff. She dried me and brushed me until my fur was silky smooth. Finally, Olivia put me back in a nice, clean cage.
When we got there, Olivia finally took me out of the coffee-smelling car and she put me on the grass. As I was trying to get a taste of that nice, juicy, fresh smelling grass, Olivia got a big bag out of the trunk. Soon, I was going on my leash. We walked over to the big building in front of us, and a woman at the door greeted us. She gave us keys to a locker
During the 1900s, a lot of people thought it would be cool to wear cheetah fur and then THOUSANDS of cheetahs were hunted down! Some people are also destroying the animals’ habitats! That means people are destroying places where animals live to mostly make new structures in that area. Even though it is now against the law to hunt cheetahs some people are still hunting cheetahs and they are selling cheetah fur against the law! So how can you help these creatures not become extinct and how can you stop people from destroying the animals’ habitat?

Olivia put me on my leash, and we saw the lights dim over the curtains. We stood in place and the curtains opened. I saw people waving flags with rabbit pictures on them. The judges announced themselves and they began inspecting us and taking notes. Olivia and I were to do a trick for the judges. Olivia chose “super hop.” It’s when Olivia holds a hoop in the air, and I jump through it. This time Olivia held it a little bit higher than usual, but I still did it!

The Life of a Paper By Dylan Baldauf
Day 1: I finally got used after 3 months! But it was only for about 6 minutes. Then the boy began to crumple me up… Day 2: Update: I’m under the table after the boy tried to throw me in the recycling bin (where most of my friends are) but missed, and, now, I am under the table. Day 3: The dog found a new chew toy…ME!!! Day 4: I’m under the dog who is on his bed. I want to go somewhere but I can’t since I have no legs or hands! Day 5: The dog is on a walk after what seems like a 1,000 days. The mom is cleaning the house and found me and a bunch of other papers. At least I’m in the paper bin. Day 6: I overheard the mom got mad at the boy because he wasn’t reusing his papers just because of a mistake. Life lesson: Use your papers wisely. people and complimenting people on their acts. Like “Oh you did great!” Or “Your cat looks fabulous”! After a while the judges called us up and we stood behind them. The judge opened an envelope and announced: The winner of the 2019 Animal Contest is… Oreo and Olivia Pearl! Everyone applauded as a bow was put on me. Except for a few people in the back frowning. I didn’t pay much attention to them.
I was so proud! “Oreo! I’m going to put you in the dressing room.” Olivia put me on a counter. I was going to take a sip of water but suddenly everything turned black. There was a blanket over my cage! I heard some voices and assumed that it was Olivia talking to someone. I was finally set down and the blanket was taken off my cage. I looked around but didn’t recognize my surroundings. I noticed that my cage door was loose, and I hopped out of the cage and into a storage room. I also noticed that my award bow was missing. I went

looking for it. As I hopped room to room, I found a door that was closed. I heard voices on the other end. Someone said “What do you think that we should do with the rabbit?” Another voice said, “She’s useless. All we need is the prize.” I quietly slipped through the crack. I saw the ribbon on a ledge. I hopped over to the ribbon and grabbed it. At least that’s what I thought I did. I was falling! There was a trapdoor! Something fell on me. The ribbon! I had the ribbon! I looked around. There wasn’t much to see. I had fallen into a deep hole. There were spiders all around me and I was covered in mud. There was also a small pipe in the wall. I peeked into the pipe. I was small enough to crawl through it! I crept through the pipe and fell on grass! I made it! I saw Olivia running to me looking relieved. “Oreo! Where were you? And look! You’re covered in mud!” I was so happy to see Olivia again! The End

It’s all over the news! Samantha Smith, her father and passengers die in a plane crash! Samantha Reed Smith was born on June 29, 1972 in Houlton, Maine. Her father taught literature and writing at the University of Maine at Augusta, and her mother worked as a social worker. Samantha was not an ordinary American girl. Already at the age of 5 she wrote a letter to queen Elizabeth to show her admiration to her. When she was 10, Samantha Smith wrote a letter to the first secretary of the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov during the Cold War. In this letter she asked him why the Soviet Union wants a nuclear war with America. After Yuri Andropov got this letter, he answered her and invited her to visit the Soviet Union. On July 7, 1983, she flew to Moscow with her parents, and spent two weeks as Andropov’s guest. During the trip she visited Moscow and Leningrad and spent time in Artek, the main Soviet pioneer camp. After spending time in Russia Samantha wrote in her book that in Leningrad she and her parents were amazed at how friendly the people were. At a Moscow press conference, she said that the Russians were “just like us.” My mom was telling me that all Russian kids were fascinated with Samantha’s courage, self-esteem and her strong wishes to bring peace between two countries. When she came back to America she wrote a book called Journey to the Soviet Union. She became a goodwill ambassador in the UN. Also, she became very famous by playing a “Special Correspondent” in a Disney Channel children’s special Samantha Smith Goes To Washington...Campaign ‘84, and the role in a television series called Lime Street. Samantha died in a plane crash on August 25, 1985, in Auburn, Maine when she was 13. She was buried in Estabrook Cemetery, Amity, Maine. Samantha Smith might not be remembered today but she deserves to be. This girl was the first kid who broke the stereotype between Americans and the Russians at the time. Hey, she was a great American, and I am very proud to be American too! Samantha’s Letter: Dear Mr. Andropov, My name is Samantha Smith. I am ten years old. Congratulations on your new job. I have been worrying about Russia and the United States getting into a nuclear war. Are you going to vote to have a war or not? If you aren’t please tell me how you are going to help to not have a war. This question you do not have to answer, but I would like to know why you want to conquer the world or at least our country. Mittens was a stray cat who lived on the streets in a bustling town called Westwood. Mittens did not enjoy being a stray. She was fine going solo (because she sometimes liked being by herself). Mittens was a small black cat. The only part of her body that wasn’t black was a little white spot that was surrounding nothing but her nose. But the thing Mittens did not like about being a stray was the living. Westwood was known for HATING littering, so it was hard to find food for poor Mittens to eat. The only places where Mittens could find shelter were places people wouldn’t go, or places that were worn down.
Mitten’s life was pretty much the same, but one day everything changed. It all started when it was a Tuesday. It was raining and everyone was gloomy (for some reason many people in Westwood seemed to be gloomy on rainy days like this one, no one knows the reason), but the day wasn’t always like this. It started as a cloudy day. No one was gloomy, it just a normal cloudy day, but then there was a loud BOOM. And then it started to rain. Mittens, however, did not know it was going to rain and thought to herself: “Meow, meow, meow” which means, “No sign of rain, so it looks like a good moving day.” But when she was walking down the streets, she heard the big loud BOOM and then it started to rain. Immediately, Mittens started running around town looking for a shelter. There was no sign of a place where Mittens could stay. After a while and when there was still no sign of a shelter, Mittens started to become desperate, and all she wanted was to get out of the rain (because a lot of cats don’t like rain) and find a place to stay. And then what Mittens saw before her eyes was a public bus shelter. Mittens was relieved and as

soon as she saw it, she charged at full speed. At the same moment, a little girl named Emily was waiting for the bus at the bus shelter with her father. She saw Mittens running towards them. She spotted Mittens and she shouted out to her father, “DADDY!” The father was stunned when he heard Emily shout. So he told his daughter, “Emily, don’t scream into peoples ears like that. It is rude.” “But daddy,” said Emily “ There is a kitty outside. IT IS ADORABLE!!”
The father looked outside and he saw Mittens with her two gentle golden eyes. And before the father could say another word, Mittens ran into the bus shelter and plopped right down onto Emily’s lap and started to purr. “PURR PURR,” went Mittens. Then Mittens opened her eyes and looked at Emily’s father straight in the eyes, and the father looked at Mittens straight in the eyes. Emily didn’t even notice what was going on between her dad and Mittens because she was busy stroking Mitten’s fur. “CAN WE KEEP HER?! CAN WE KEEP HER?!” said Emily. “She is so thin you can see her ribs.” “I’m not sure,” said Emily’s dad. “Having a pet is a BIG responsibility.” “But I will take care of it. I will feed it and I will snuggle with it and I will do everything else a cat needs.” It took ten minutes to convince her father to let her keep Mittens. When he finally agreed, Emily and her father got on the bus ride to head home. When they got home, Mittens was introduced to Emily’s mom and Emily’s mom really liked Mittens. Then the family decided to name the cat Mittens, which is how Mittens got her name. And there, Mittens had a happy life with a loving family and her great owner, Emily. THE END

Great to have you back. Jane. say, can you give me a big before-braces smile?” Jane tried smiling, but how could she, she thought. Getting braces was nothing to smile about. Dr. Holden noticed her fake smile. “Ah, looks like a clear case of the Before-braces blues. Don’t you worry, Jane, the kids will laugh, but let them laugh until they realize they may get braces soon, too! Plus, you’ll have better teeth in the 6th grade than anybody else!”

She made Blair make all the beds (there were 5 beds!), which was a lot for Blair. Then, they got an invitation to a ball. Her stepmom didn’t want her to go to the ball so the stepmom ruined all the beds and told her to make them, so she said she would. Her sisters were so beautiful when they left and Blair started crying and crying and crying. But then her stuffed animals turned alive and said, “are you okay?” She said, “no.”The frog said, “Why?” “Because my stepmom said I cannot go to the ball,” said Blair. “I will help you,” the frog said. An “Aha!” from Dr. Holden’s office put her at ease. He came out with… A mirror. I wonder what the mirror’s for, thought Jane. “Now, I want you to hold the mirror up to your mouth. Good. When I put the braces on, I want you to look into that mirror. That way you will see that braces are just gluing the brackets onto your teeth and adding the wires and rubber bands—we have many colors to choose from.” He took out a special glue, a sample page of all the rubber band colors, and specially made brackets just right for Jane’s teeth. She started to feel icky. Jane closed her eyes and hoped for the best. Nothing hurt. Jane waited some more. Nothing hurt.

Her bow came off so the Prince said he will check every home until he can find the girl. He went to Blair’s home but her stepmother had put her in the closet and locked her in. The prince came and said, “Do you know who this bow belongs to so I can marry her?” The frog went into the closet and unlocked it, bringing her down stairs with the other girls. The first sister tried the bow but it did not fit, so the second sister tried it, too, but it did not work. The stepmom said, “That is it” but the Prince saw Blair. The stepmom brought her and the bow worked, so they got married. The End

You look SO CUTE!” Jane’s mom said. “Hey,” Halley said when she saw the braces. “You don’t look like the metalmouth I thought you would look like!” A few days later, Jane had a realization. Chorus
OUR SCHOOL

What is chorus? Well, chorus is a group of 4th and 5th grade students who work with Mr. Mastilinski and sing songs. When and where do you meet for chorus? If you are in the chorus, we meet on C and D days to rehearse our songs. Mr. Mastilinski’s room 4th graders meet on C day and 5th graders meet on D days. In the few sessions before our concert, the 4th and 5th graders practice in the auditorium together. Is chorus fun? In my opinion I think that chorus is fun because we get treats called “onions” [fruit snacks] and sometimes Mr. Mastilinski even makes an Elmo voice! So, do you want to join the chorus?
HOW TO BE A REPORTER AND HOW TO MAKE A GOOD STORY By Dylan Baldauf Note: This information is from Kimberly Flores Guzman, Assignment editor from NBC News. She told us that there are 5 parts to what makes a story newsworthy: Timelessness, Conflict, Human Interest, Relevance and Proximity. Timelessness is news that is happening right now or in the near future. Conflict is that there are different points of view from people involved in the situation. Human Interest is news that people would like. Relevance is news that can help you and Proximity is how close an incident or event is to where you live.
When you are making a story, Kimberly said that it needs to have a Headline, Background Information, Big Question, Characters and Visuals. A headline is basically the title. Background Information includes where this event happened or what caused this event. The Big Question is about why the story is important. Usually the Background Information helps build up to the Big Question. The characters are the people being interviewed and the visuals are photos or videos of the event. Now you know how to be a reporter and how to make a good story!
Running club

Do you like running club? Some people in the club complain that it is boring or time consuming. Well, they are wrong. Running club is about learning and practicing to be a marathon runner. Running club has been there for a long time. When you run in Running club you might not realize it but you are running a mile which is about 1/26.2 of a marathon! That is how much a marathon runner runs; 26.2 miles. So if next year you are going to be a 4th grader or a 5th grader, make sure you join running club!

Why do we go to running club? Why did the school make something like a running club? In running club, we burn calories and become stronger. In running club, you can socialize with your friends. You have more time to be with friends. You can exercise and socialize at the same time! In running club, you run as much as you want to. You get to run 3 laps outside and 25 laps inside. The 25 laps inside would be equal to 3 laps outside. You don’t do it every day. You only do it on B days, so you don’t get tired every day. Now, you know why I joined running club. I think you should join it too. It’s fun, amazing and awesome. You will make new friends and you will get a chance to be a part of a club. So, now do you want to join running club?

I really like Mrs. Santos’s book club. I really like the book club because we get to discuss what happened in the book Path to the Stars. I like it because there is a girl named Sylvia and she is learning how to be independent. Also, she is in Girl Scouts. I also enjoy this book club because we get to compare Sylvia’s life—how she was— and see how it is connected to life today. One activity that Sylvia did was when she wanted to earn her cooking badge. She made many recipes but unfortunately they did not work at first. But when she did the process multiple times, her experience finally worked. This is telling us that you can’t give up even if you don’t know
what to do. You have to say you can. We also need to be determined. Sylvia’s job in the book is to lift other people up and make them follow their dreams. I believe you might like this book. This book is for girls. You should also read this book because Sylvia shares her feelings and she shows what she and her family do. In Mrs. Santos’s book club, Mrs. Santos is making us badges and she bring snacks most the time, but I mostly don’t really care about the snacks—I care about the book and how Sylvia feels. This makes me feel really interested and I hope this book review will make you interested, too. This book is ages 9 and up. I hope you read and enjoy this book!
We should have more homework because it will help us understand what our teachers are teaching us. Also, more homework would help us on the ELA test and regular tests, too. Most people I interviewed said they wanted less homework, but homework can help you think about what to do step by step on your own. Teachers can also look at your homework to know what you are struggling on

End Game Review

The moment we all have been waiting for! Avengers: Endgame has taken over and everyone is talking about it. I will tell you some but not all of the movie: it’s a must see. This movie is full of action, drama, some comedy, and it will make you cry. There were so many times I was on the edge of my seat yelling at the screen. The movie begins with Clint having a wonderful time with his family in his backyard, barbequing, when all of a sudden they all disappear. Iron man and Nebula are stuck in space. Iron Man does not have much time to live when all of sudden Captain Marvel appears and brings the entire ship back to earth. The Avengers find Thanos but he does not have the stones—he destroyed them. Thor is so upset and hurt that he kills Thanos. When Iron Man’s
ship arrives, he is met by his wife, Captain America, and some others from his team. Fast forward. Ant-man, who was stuck in the quantum realm, manages to get back. What was 5 hours for him was 5 years on earth. The Avengers get together to figure out how they can go back in time using the quantum realm to get all of the infinity stones and stop Thanos. They don’t realize that going back in time is also alerting Thanos of their plan. They go back in time to find the stones, which means Thanos has to find them in order to collect them again. Hulk puts the Infinity Glove on with stones and he snaps his fingers so that everyone that turned to dust comes back. Thanos and the Avengers start fighting, and, well, let’s just say, you will cry if this particular Avenger is your favorite. I give this move 10 stars.

Do you know why the moon is drifting off? Scientists are not sure but think that it’s a super-giant planet, which a hugh gravitational pull that is causing the moon to be drifting off.

Why should people vote for a laser toy? People should vote for a laser toy because it is big enough for a cat to see. However, since the laser runs on batteries, it could waste a lot of batteries if your cat likes it too much. Why should people vote for string? People should vote for string because you can bring string anywhere since it is pocket- sized. You can even use your shoelace as a string! But if your cat jumps too high…the cat can scratch you. Why should people vote for a toy mouse? People should vote for toy mouse because if you are on vacation, your cat can play with it by themselves. The bad part is that your cat can think it is a real mouse and hide it somewhere you will never find. Six people voted for a laser toy, 1 person voted for string and 2 people voted for a toy mouse, which means cats should play with lasers!!!

Warning! let your parents help you with this… If you want something to eat, then read this story… If you want to make pasta, then I’ll tell you how to make it. Pasta: Get a big pot. Fill it up to ¾ full with water. Put the pot on your stove. Heat until water boils. Lower the heat a little, get the pasta and pour it into the pot. Stir the pasta in the pot, raise the heat a little. Read the pasta’s package to find out how long it should boil. Test the pasta, and if it tastes a little squishy, then it’s ready. Turn off the heat, get a strainer and put it in the sink. Pour the pasta into the strainer. You might need help with the big, heavy, hot pot! Get a bowl and pour the pasta from the strainer into the bowl. Put some tomato sauce or butter wherever you want on the pasta and enjoy! I remember last year—when I was seven years old, my mom taught me how to make pasta. I wanted to do it by myself.

Then I tried to carry it, but it was too heavy, so I called my mom to help me carry the pot to the stove. Then she told me to raise the heat to 5, so I did. Five minutes later… then I realized that the pasta was starting to boil. I rushed to the stove as fast as I could before the water spilled, “I made it!” So I lowered the gas and poured the pasta in. I added salt and oil, then mixed it a little. I waited and waited and waited and then I tested the pasta. “It’s ready!” I shouted. My mom came into the kitchen. She helped me carry the pot and dump it into the strainer. We put the pasta into the bowl, put some tomato sauce on it, and it was finished. Yay!

Hobbies and addictions. Here’s what I have to say about these two things… they are different things. Well, a hobby is something you enjoy to do. This is an example of a hobby: You enjoy playing games with your friends. But an addiction, on the other hand, is something you are obsessed with. Here is an example of a addiction: Imagine you LOVE to play a video game called Minecraft (Minecraft is a real video game, just to let you know if you did not know that) and you play it often. But when you start playing it constantly and when you become obsessed with it, you mostly don’t do anything else besides playing Minecraft. That’s when it starts to become an addiction. So don’t only do one thing. You should stop every once in a while, and do something different because it is good for your brain and yourbody. But don’t be like, “Nuh uh, I am NEVER going to play Minecraft again!”

and then you start doing things like reading or writing. Stop looking at screens and devices every once in a while to take a break so your eyes can rest. Doing that regularly is healthy but when you start becoming obsessed with just reading and writing and when other people come into your room your Mom and say something like this, “Uh sweetie you have been reading and writing for a few hours I think you should go outside or do something else for a while.” Well reading and writing is healthier than playing video games and looking at devices, but even reading and writing can sometimes be unhealthy. When you become obsessed and you mostly don’t do anything else and you don’t go outside, that’s when even reading and writing can become an addiction, too! How can you avoid becoming addicted to something and how can you have balance online and offline?
Do you believe 16-year-olds should post on social media? In my opinion, I think 16 year olds are independent, meaning they don’t need anyone to monitor them. They can also handle the hate that I don’t think underage children can handle. Here are some facts that might convince you. Let’s start with Instagram. You have to be at least 13 years old to create an Instagram account. It also has inappropriate pictures that underage children might see. The hate comments can be very rude sometimes. With Facebook, random people can track you down. Facebook can spread rumors about other people that might hurt their feelings sometimes. It can include fake news and talks a lot about politics. With Snapchat, people can harass each other and send it to everybody. Nowadays, people are getting hacked. I feel that 16 year olds can handle this, but I think people under 16 years old should not post or use social media. I hope you agree with me!

By Reona Guillaume My teachers’ names are Mr. Mosher and Mrs. Gil. They are wonderful teachers. Here are a few things that you might not know about them. Mr. Mosher is an amazing teacher. He good at teaching social studies and historical fiction. I enjoy his stories and he is a funny teacher. Did you know that Mr. Mosher dressed up as King George the 3rd? He sang a song and wished that we would stay together with him and be loyalists! He even played his guitar. It was great even though we knew it was not real because King George III is not alive right now. Mrs. Gil is a good Spanish teacher. I learn new vocabulary every day. She is also good at showing us math. She teaches me how to do fractions, measurements, angles, and more math. I appreciate my teachers, but, in my opinion, they give us too much homework. They mostly give us a lot of homework during breaks but either way they are wonderful and outstanding teachers. They do many things for me and help me on important things that I don’t understand. They are the best 4th grade teachers this year. They are the best teachers ever!

Interview About Our Community Interviewing Synchro Swimmer By Scarlette M. Herr
Hello, my name is Scarlette M. Herr, and today I am interviewing my older sister Maria about synchronized swimming and how hard she needs to work to get chosen to participate in Junior Olympics. She’s currently 13 years old and an eighth grader at Highlands Middle School. Scarlette: How long have you been doing synchro? Maria: I have been doing synchro for 4 years. Scarlette: How hard is it to do your synchronized swimming and your school homework? Maria: It’s not that hard, as long as you have good time management skills, but it can get stressful to balance at times. However, even with time management skills, synchro does not make getting my homework done easy. I have to go to practice right after school, and I usually don’t get home before 8:30. I also have German and Russian school two times a week, so I have to do the homework for that too. Scarlette: What competitions do you go to? Maria: There are a lot of different competitions, like associations, regionals, zones, and Junior Olympics. Scarlette: How do you prepare for your competitions? Maria: We train really hard, especially the week leading up to a meet. The week leading up to a meet is called a “Blackout Week”, since we’re not allowed to skip practice for that week. Scarlette: What do you do at your swimming practice? Maria: We have practice 4-5 times a week, and each of them are three to four hours
along. The first hour of practice is just land, where we do land workouts and stretching exercises. Then, the next hour and a half we do laps in the pool. After that, we either work on our routine or on figures. Scarlette: What do you prepare for during the year? Maria: Our biggest meet of the year is Junior Olympics. Leading up to Junior Olympics, we have a lot of smaller meets, like the ones I mentioned earlier that we have to compete in to qualify for Junior Olympics. We also have level testing, which isn’t a meet, but we have to pass certain requirements to be able to compete in meets. Our most recent meet was regionals, where we had to place in top 3 to qualify for Junior Olympics. We got second place, which means we qualified. Scarlette: Since you do synchro so many times a week, how is your family and free time affected? Maria: Because of synchro and the other things I do out of school, I don’t have that much free time. My synchro also takes away free time from the other people in my family, since my parents have to drive me to synchro all the time. I don’t have a lot of time to go to in-school activites, and sometimes I can’t go to places with my friends because of the time I take for synchro. Scarlette: What do you friends at school feel about you doing synchro? Maria: Most of my friends think it’s a cool sport. They like to watch me do it, and hear what it’s like. Sometimes
I send them videos and pictures of me. Scarlette: Do you see yourself as a future synchro professional? Maria: Although synchro is a hard sport, and I really enjoy it, but it probably won’t be my future career. I’ll do it through some of high school, but eventually I’m going to quit. Scarlette: If you don’t see yourself as a synchro professional in your future, why do you do it so often? Maria: First of all, it’s a generally fun sport, although hard, and I enjoy it a lot. Second of all, it helps me maintain a physically healthy body and lifestyle. Third of all, I get to meet a lot of new people when we travel for meets. I have friends from the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean that I met at a meet we had. The last reason is that it’s a great experience traveling to different places. At our most recent meet, we got to watch horse racing at the hotel. It also helps me focus and manage my time correctly. Scarlette: What do you see yourself doing in the future? Maria: I’m not 100% sure, but since I speak four languages, I was thinking of being a translator, or getting a job that involves different languages, like the UN. Scarlette: Thank you Maria! Out of the Ordinary

It was the first day of school and every single kid in Mrs. Smith’s class was very excited and was acting normal except for this one girl who sat in the back of the room . She was so lonely , no one even knew her name. I’m pretty sure the teacher felt bad for her because she didn’t call on her once, and she called on every single student. But I didn’t think any of the students felt bad for her because when it came to lunch everyone scooted away from her and left her at one table. During recess, she sat lonely at a table reading books. The next day she got called to the principal and well they thought she was out of the ordinary. She had no friends and possibly not much family, so everyday basically went the same – lonely. One day they followed her home, now it sounds creepy but it was for a good cause; they wanted to find out her life at home. They thought that she noticed them following her because she led them into the woods far away from most people and she went into an underground house and soon figured out she had no guardian, she was living in a house alone. Her reason for being so lonely is she has to keep that a secret and couldn’t risk letting other people know.

The White Plains 6th grade campus is a gigantic building for only 6th grade students. The campus is uniquely built in the shape of a large “E.” Can you guess why? You got it, it’s because the name of the campus is Eastview! That’s only one of the really amazing features of this campus.

Homework
By Helly Solanki Do you like to do your homework? Do you think homework is fun? Well, I say, “Yes” for both questions. What do you say? I say yes because homework is a review of everything you did in school. I think all kids should do their homework. And not just to do it but to do it with full concentration and focus. Some kids, like me, like to do more things after homework. I make flashcards for me or make a hard problem and then solve it. My teacher says to watch videos about your homework topic. If you are not good in one topic, let’s say mathematics you can practice that topic at home. What I like to do is ask my teacher for worksheets for that topic and my teacher never says no to me. My teacher also says to turn your homework into a little game so you can have fun while doing your homework. Now what do you think about homework? If you think it is fun, it really is! I like it and so should you!

Once upon at time there was a mouse, his name was Fredrick. He lived in a hole in the wall in a mansion. He had a sister named Pricilla, a mother and a father. The mansion that the family lives in was a perfect fit. There were 4 children Albert, Arnold, Jane and Kaitlin. Their parents were producers for a movie so their parents travel a lot. The children had a nanny named Ava. One morning Albert and Jane were playing they had a cheese in their hands. Albert dropped the cheese and Pricilla saw the cheese drop and ran for it. She got the cheese and started eating but Albert cried “AVA THERE’S A MOUSE!”

One of the trickiest parts of the 6th grade campus is that you only have two minutes to travel from class to class. If you are not seated in class by the time the bell rings, you are tardy. That means keep a close eye on the time and NO talking to friends! As a fifth grader, I am very excited and a little scared to get started at Eastview. Guess I will just have to see what happens next year!
Artist Aadi Kumar Ava came running with a cup a paper and a trash bag. She slides Pricilla under the paper and put her in the trash bag and went outside to the garbage and put her in. The mice could see the garbage from the open window. Fredrick got his mother and father and told what happened to Pricilla. They made a plan to get to the window and jump to the garbage and get her out. They jumped on a table then a box and then the windowsill. They jumped on a bush and then a chair. The father grabbed the mother’s legs while the mother grabbed Fredrick’s leg Fredrick stretched arm and grabbed the bag he opened it and saw Pricilla. They were overjoyed to see her. The End.

La Naturaleza

La naturaleza hace cosas bella como cuando las flores salen de la tierra y el aire libre que respiramos. Los animales que nos sirven como alimento.El bonito sol que brilla como las estrellas. La naturaleza es algo hermoso.
Un día, en el fín del verano del año pasado, fuí a la playa con mi familia y mis primas. Cuando llegué a la playa, escuché las olas chocantes y las gaviotas. Después de situarnos en la playa, decidimos ir al agua. ¡Cuando entramos al mar, no pude creer lo que encontramos! Había millones y millones de huevos de peces azules. Antes que me diera cuenta que eran, lo único que pude pensar fue, “¡Ew! ¡Que asqueroso! ¡Esto no puede ser sanitario!”. Mi prima estuvo de acuerdo y salimos del agua! Encontramos unas colinas de arena, entonces decidimos excavar un hueco dentro de la colina. Nos divertimos mucho excavando y cuando nos cansamos de excavar, fuimos a nadar otra vez. Pero fue una mala idea…
No eramos la única familia en la playa. Mientras que estabamos nadando, tres niños fueron a ver mi hueco. No pensé mucho en eso, porque la playa es un lugar público, entonces no los podría parar de mirarlo si quería. Me quedé nadando cuando me dí cuenta que algo no fue correcto. Al salir del agua, vi a los niños destruyendo mi hueco! No solo estaban arruinándolo, sino que habían tomado mi pala y la usaron para romperlo. Le dieron a mi hueco, brincaron en mi hueco, pisotearon mi hueco, hasta tiraron arena para llenar mi hueco. No pude hacer nada para pararlos, pero en vez enojarme me puse triste. Probe decirles de parar pero no me escucharon. Tuve que ver como arruinaron mi hueco por 10 minutos. Lo único que pude hacer después fue llorar. Entonces, esa es la historia de cómo unos niños en la playa arruinaron mi hueco…y mi día entero.

El Búfalo Salvaje
Por Rafael Ramirez Vivar Todo empezó en las vacaciones del año pasado cuando fuimos a Dakota del Sur para visitar Mount Rushmore (Las cabezas de piedra de los presidentes) al día siguiente les dije a mis papás si podíamos ir a unas cuevas de aire que estaban cerca de ahí; “Sí, sí, sí, sí, sí, sí, sí. Siiiiiiiiiiiii” les insistía, eso fué después de visitar Crazy Horse Memorial. Cuando por fin emprendimos camino a las cuevas, yo sentí que era el mejor día de mi vida. ¡No sabía lo que nos esperaba!
El día estaba caluroso, como si estuviéramos en la playa y con una suave brisa soplando sobre nuestras mejillas. Para poder llegar a ese lugar mi papi tuvo que manejar poco más de media hora. No crean que era un lugar pequeño; no, tenían un santuario de búfalos y de perros de pradera, tristemente más de 800 acres de bellos árboles habían sido quemados por un incendio. No pudimos detenernos a observar porque teníamos prisa para ir a las cuevas de aire. Qué decepción sentimos cuando la encontramos cerrada.
Ya de regreso y con más calma observamos todo el santuario de Búfalos. El lugar era hermoso, con pequeñas lomas que eran tocadas por el atardecer del sol; cuando de repente escuchamos un sonido como eeeeeeee eeeeeeee eeeeeee. Mi hermana decía que eran los búfalos, pero no sabíamos qué sonido hacen; otra vez eeeeee eeeeee eeeeee, el sonido era como el de un pájaro… Vimos alrededor y nos quedamos con la boca abierta cuando vimos pequeños perros de pradera saliendo de hoyos de la tierra, eran incontables. Al ir avanzando vimos muchos búfalos, grandes y pequeños, eran hermosos y gigantescos; cuando de repente escuchamos un sonido de carro: cheerrr, cheerrrr, cherrrr, queriendo mover a unos búfalos que se encontraban en su camino. Después un búfalo se enojó y

se vió como si fuera a voltear el carro, este avanzó y logró escaparse; otros búfalos más empezaron a avanzar y temíamos que también nos quisieran hacer algo a nosotros, pero por suerte solo pasaron de lado y siguieron su camino, uffff ¡Qué susto! Al final fuimos al hotel y comimos. Al día siguiente emprendimos el viaje de regreso a casa. “Gracias por estas hermosas vacaciones”, -dije-. Fue una experiencia inolvidable. Me recordó como si hubiera estado en el zoológico con animales, pero fue una situación diferente. Después de tanto tiempo, todavía cuando lo recuerdo me espanta… Moraleja: No hagas mucho ruido cuando estas en un santuario de búfalos, porque te puede salir uno muy enojón.

Harriet Tumban vivió en la época de la esclavitud. En esta época las esclavas no podían practicar su religión, tenían que practicar la religión en la casa. En mi opinión esto no es justo porque todos no practican la misma religión. Otro ejemplo es que los cazadores no les daban de comer a los esclavos, entonces ellos estaban muy débiles. Un ejemplo final es que los esclavos no tenían sus derechos y no podían hacer lo que querían y tenían que hacer todo lo que les forzaban a hacer. Yo pienso que la época de la esclavitud fue la más dolorosa y difícil.
Harriet Tubman fue una mujer que quería justicia para todos. Para empezar, ella quería derechos para que no hubieran esclavos. ¡¡Sí!! Los niños deben hacer las tareas domésticas. Las tareas domésticas son tareas que haces para ayudar en casa. Son los quehaceres ayudan a la unidad familiar a funcionar día a día. Los padres son responsables de proporcionar un hogar para vivir, comida, ropa y muchas otras necesidades. Los niños deben contribuir y ayudar a mantener la casa limpia y lavando la ropa. Hacer tareas te prepara para cuando seas adulto y seas responsable de tí mismo. Si comienzas joven, será fácil cuando seas mayor. Además, si haces tareas, tus padres podrían pagarte o darte una recompensa. Sin embargo, no se trata de una reforma monetaria, se trata de contribuir a la familia y de sentirse bien mientras lo haces.

Los Beneficios de una Escuela Bilingüe Por Alina Hara
Algunos niños nacen en lugares donde solo se habla español, otros nacen en lugares donde se habla solo inglés, y otros nacen en lugares donde se habla otro idioma. Con todos los idiomas del mundo, yo creo que todos los niños deberían poder asistir una escuela bilingüe. Existen muchas razones por la que aprender dos o más idiomas es genial. Cuando sabes más de un idioma tu puedes viajar a más lugares, tienes más opciones para encontrar un trabajo, y se desarrolla más el cerebro. Es mejor ser bilingüe porque cuando estás viajando a otro lugar donde hablan otro idioma, quieres aprender lo que están diciendo para poder conversar. ¿No te gustaría poder hablar el idioma para entender lo que todos están hablando? Eso te podría ayudar a interactuar con más facilidad con personas de todas partes del mundo y también sería más fácil para hacer nuevos amigos. Ser bilingüe también te ayudará en el futuro a poder encontrar un trabajo. Poder aprender un idioma es una gran oportunidad porque muchos trabajos requieren dos idiomas. Poder hablar dos idiomas, o incluso más, es importante para cuando tienes un cliente que habla otro idioma. Por ejemplo, a veces puedes encontrarte con personas que necesitan tu ayuda, pero esa persona puede estar hablando

Según el Dr. Mariano Sigman el autor del libro “La Vida Secreto de la Mente”, los niños bilingües son mejores que los niños monolingües en tareas de la mente. Según los estudios del Dr. Sigman los niños bilingües prestan mejor atención, planean mejor, y también pueden cambiar entre tareas mejor. Todo esto es para decir, que todos deberían tener oportunidad para asistir a una escuela bilingüe. Yo tuve suerte. Vine a Nueva York desde la República Dominicana sin saber casi nada de inglés, pero después de comenzar a ir a la escuela y cuando me aceptaron en el programa bilingüe de George Washington empecé a aprender mucho más inglés que antes y pude entender, hablar, leer y escribir en inglés. A la misma vez, no perdí mi español y logré aprender cómo leerlo y escribirlo. Me gustaría que más estudiantes tuvieran esta oportunidad. Estar involucrado en aprender otro idioma es increíble e importante. I am grateful to Jaiden because he is my best friend.
One thing he did that made me really happy is when he and I went to his house to play. There, we played Fortnite and watched YouTube together. After that we went downstairs and ate pizza. When my dad came to pick me up, Jaiden and I begged, and my dad let me stay another hour. We went back upstairs and did silly stuff together. Jaiden’s friend Joe came over in some time. It was a whole lot of fun! Then we went downstairs and Jaiden put on “Earth Worm Sally,” with the speakers on full power. It was very late by then. I had to go home, but it was so much fun! It was a Friday, and that made it even more exciting! My dad let me take candy to school, but I saved it till I went to Jaiden’s house. In school, at the end of the day our teacher gave us some cookies, too! Also, it was the end of the ELA state exam, so we got to listen to songs! One of the songs was “Crab Rave”. When I got home and went to bed I had good dreams. It was one of the most fun days of my life!

My Brother and Sisters My brothers and sisters are very nice. Their names are Velisha, Dorshelle, and Vinston. Velisha, in my opinion, is the person who helps me improve and get better in school. She helps me when I need help when I am doing school work and more. Also, she is a nice and caring sister. Dorshelle is a hard-working fashion designer. I want to be to be like her so I can express my style and make clothes for people to wear. Also, she makes clothes for me, and I really appreciate it. Mostly she good at making dresses. If I become a fashion designer, I want to make more than dresses. My sister goes to FIT, and she wins a lot of contests. My sister won a certificate for all her hard work. I am so happy that my sister is continues to takes steps to becoming a better fashion designer. My brother Vinston is a software engineer. He graduated and he is moving to California for a year. He is amazing because he used to work at HBO. Also, he teaches me how to code and how to be like him. Going to Mexico

When I went to Mexico, I was happy and sad. I was happy because we were going to Mexico and sad because my dad wasn’t going with us and I wouldn’t be seeing him until a week and 2 days. When I was at Mexico, I met my grandma and grandpa from my mom’s side of the family for the first time. I met my Uncle Samay and Uncle Rigo and Aunt Edith. I love my Uncle Rigo and his wife Aunt Terresa. When we just came to Mexico, they took us to buy ice cream and then we came back. We stayed at my Uncle Samay’s house. I brought my camera and took a lot of pictures.

I met my cousins. We played with bulbs. We went to the city of Mexico and went to Buenavista mass and we saw people dress like Aztecas (people who lived long ago). We went to the pool and there was a park. Then we went to Ciudad Hidalgo Mochoacan in an autobus and then I met my Uncle Leonel. We saw where my mom lived when she was a kid. And we met my uncle’s wife, my aunt and my cousins. Then we met my Aunt Mayra and my cousins. My uncle works with wood and he showed me how to make my name. I love going to Mexico and will like to go back.

Hockey and Soccer
By Nilo Rodriguez and Rafael Ramirez Most people don't realize this but hockey and soccer are very similar. The rules are significantly more similar than most think. However, the two sports still have many differences. Here are some of the similarities and differences. For one, both sports have goals/nets. On the other hand, the size of the goals are very different. The hockey goal is small compared to the soccer goal which is huge! But the goalies can cover the whole goal for each sport. Another similarity is that in both sports there are penalties and penalty shots. The difference in the penalties is that in one of the sports, it is easier to get caught! Hockey and Soccer also both use something to hit the ball into the net/goal but they are very different things! One uses a puck and a stick and the other one uses a ball and their foot. Both sports use a special type of footwear. One is ice skates and the other one is cleats. Another similarity is the both wear protective gear. The difference is the amount they wear. Hockey uses full body protective gear and in soccer they just protect their shins and sometimes the mouth. Another similarity is they both have fights. In hockey fighting is a regular part of the game but in soccer it doesn't happen as often. In conclusion, there are so many similarities and differences between hockey and soccer, you might have known some of these facts but if you didn’t, we hope we taught you something and you enjoyed this article!

My favorite sport is football. I like other sports, too, but football, in my opinion, is the best. Football is my favorite sport because all the teams are really good, and you never know who will win. There are tons of games in a season and my favorite one is the Super Bowl. My favorite team is the Atlanta Falcons. I also like football because at the end of a season you never know who will be traded where and what new players are joining from college. Another reason I like football is that footballs are very different from soccer balls, basketballs, baseballs and tennis balls because footballs are not round. A football is shaped that way because that’s also the shape of an inflated pig bladder. Cool, right? Those are the reasons why I like football better than other sports.

One final reason why golf is my favorite sort is that when you are on the coarse you can have so much fun using your imagination. You can have so much fun doing that. Some people, like kids, like to play with slime. Most kids play with fluffy slime because its fluffy and it is not sticky at all and you do not have to get it everywhere. Plus, you don’t have to get in trouble by leaving slime on the floor when you play with it. And you can have all the fun you want with fluffy slime. Also, you can share with others to make new friends. But do not leave it out of the container for a long time or it will get hard and will not be fluffy slime.

Gabrielle plays second and third base and Kelly plays catcher, pitcher and shortstop. You might be wondering what MLS stands for, it stands for Major League Softball. We basically made it up. There is MLB (Major League Baseball) but there’s no MLS (Major League Softball) and that’s what we want to change. They should make MLS because women really want to show how much they love their sport and they want to be acknowledged for all of their hard work that payed off. Another reason is that a lot of girls that play softball can watch MLS and learn a lot about softball since they are professionals. We really want MLS to become a thing. It’s an amazing sport and it deserves to be a major league sport.

Survivor Part Two By Lauren Rogers
Survivor is a very fun and thrilling television show game to watch. I wrote the article, “Survivor-Part One” last year but a new and exciting twist appeared this season that deserves to be written about and explained. First, I will give you a reminder about this cool game. The game is played with contestants who are split into two tribes. They compete in challenges such as a reward challenge and an immunity challenge. Sometimes they are mashed together in one challenge. A reward challenge is a challenge with a series of obstacles (normally) and whichever tribe wins is a warded with food or supplies such as blankets, pillows, or a tarp. An immunity challenge is similar to a reward challenge, but the reward is immunity. Immunity is a reward that is given to the winning tribe. This makes sure that the tribe is safe from elimination. They have no way of getting kicked out of the game that night. Tribal council is the place that the losers of the immunity challenge go to vote out one member of the tribe. They are each given a vote and the person who has the most votes will be sent home. Advantages help the
person in a challenge or tribal council. The most common one is that you are immune from being voted out, even if the votes have already been cast. Another one is if you are given an extra vote or can give your vote to another person in your tribe. There are many other advantages yet not many are found. If you ever find one and use it correctly it could be worth one million dollars. Now, in the middle of the game something called a merge happens every season. The merge is when both tribes are put together on one island so there is now individual immunity. Individual immunity after the merge takes place. Now it’s not for tribes but everyone is alone and only one person can get immunity. This season had a special twist. If anyone gets voted out, they have a choice. They can either go home or go to an island called, “The Edge of Extinction”, for many days with all those who were sent off before you. You have two chances to get back in the game [both are challenges. It’s hard but makes you think and gives you a second chance at winning at the game. I hope you enjoyed this story and I hope it helps you understand this television show a bit better.

The Walatodattle

“Be careful Lily,” warned Abby as her little sister wandered deeper into the forest. “Fine whatever, but how will we ever find our way back if we don’t hurry?” asked Lily. Abby and Lily were on a camping trip with their mom when they went on an adventure and got lost. Now they’re in the forest with no clue on how to get back to their campsite. They brought a backpack with them and conveniently enough in the backpack there were a few items that could come in handy. There was a book, some water bottles, half a bag of potato chips, and a fishing rod. “Hey look! I found a cave!” shouted Lily. “Good job, Lily!” exclaimed Abby. The cave was dark, really dark, but Abby and Lily couldn’t keep walking. They were tired and even though it was not as comfortable as being next to their mom cuddled up around a campfire, it was all they had at the moment. “I’m going to go try to find some more food,” said Abby. “I saw a river earlier on the way here. Maybe there’ll be some fish.” “Okay. You’ll be back soon though, right?” said Lily “Of course I will. Try to get comfortable. I’ll be back soon,”
replied Abby. After Abby left the cave, Lily began rummaging through their bag looking for the book they packed and the flashlight. “Aha!” said Lily. She found the book she was looking for. It was a fairytale book. Lily flipped to a chapter called The Walatodattle. “Huh?” said Lily in a puzzled voice. The chapter was talking about the friendly creature called the Walatodattle. “What a cute creature!” “Lily, I’m back!” said Abby while running back to the cave. “Look what I found!” said Abby holding up three fish. “Yay!” exclaimed Lily. “But how are we going to cook it? I mean, we can’t just eat it like that,” said Lily. “Remember when Mom taught us how to start a fire? First you gather tiny sticks and set them up like this. Then you take two rocks and rub them together until it sparks,” explained Abby. “There! Now there’s a fire set up!” she said proudly. Both sisters cooked their food carefully and ate it. Later on that night the two girls heard thundering in the distance and woke up. There was a storm, the type of storm nobody would want to be outside for. When Abby and Lily woke up, not only did they hear thundering, but they also saw some lightning. “Did you see that!” said Lily “Yes I did. I think we’re fine though,” said Abby. Or at least that’s what both girls thought. They heard screeching in the distance but ignored the sound.

It looked weird and it was dark but somehow Lily knew what the creature was. “Abby, don’t hurt it!” yelled out Lily. Lily grabbed the flashlight and tossed it to Abby. Abby turned on the flashlight and shined the light in the creature’s direction. “I know what it is! It’s from my book. It’s called the Walatodattle!” said Lily. “I think it’s hurt!” “Or maybe it’s hungry,” said Abby. Abby looked around and grabbed a piece of fish and tossed it to a side. The Walatodattle followed the piece of fish and ate it. “Still Abby, didn’t you see the way it was walking? Maybe the poor thing is hurt,” said Lily. Lily walked closer to the Walatodattle. “Be careful Lily,” said Abby in a worried tone. The Walatodattle didn’t move. It stayed still. “See Abby? It’s not going to attack me. I think it’s just hurt!” Lily looked at the Walatodattle very closely. “Aha!” said Lily. She grabbed the Walatodattle’s foot and looked at it closely. “Abby, it’s bleeding!” said Lily. “Let’s take it to the river, we can wash off the wound there,” said Abby. The storm was over. Both girls helped the Walatoddatle walk to the river. When they got there, they washed off the wound and

A few minutes later they heard a voice in the distance. “Abby! Lily! Where are you two?” said a woman whose voice they recognized. “Mom?” said Abby. “Mommy?” said Lily. Abby and Lily’s mother appeared. She told them that after the storm, she went searching for them but couldn’t find them anywhere. Their mom took Abby and Lily back to the campsite and sat down with them. “I was so worried about you. You can’t just go off like that! Who knows what could have happened to you!” said their mom “We’re fine, Mom,” said Abby. “Yeah!” said Lily. “I know, I know. Just please don’t run off like that again, okay?” their mom warned. “Okay, we won’t do it again,” said Abby. Abby, Lily and their mom went out to a restaurant to eat breakfast. The two girls told their mom about their adventure and the Walatodattle. The rest of the day the two girls did what they usually did and swam at the lake. That night Abby, Lily and their mom roasted marshmallows and sat down, all cuddled up, around the campfire.

“Extra Extra Read All About It” By Nilo Rodriguez, Rafael Ramirez, Alina Hara, Alba Martinez Ex: 1/4 X = 2/20 = 1/10 To start, you line the fractions up. Next, you multiply the top two number (aka the numerator). In the problem above, the numerators are 1 and 2. When you multiply these numbers it equals 2. Next, you multiply the two numbers on the bottom (aka the denominator). In this example, the denominators are 5 and 4. When you multiply these numbers it equals 20. That leaves you with 2/20. Then you have to simplify the fraction by dividing it by its smallest common factor. In this case, the smallest common factor is 2, so 2 divided by 2 = 1 and 20 divided by 2 = 10. Therefore, the answer is 1/10. Ex: 6/8 divided by 5 = 3 3/4 To start, we do something called keep, change, flip (aka KCF). By Melanie Lombana Do you like to read? Do you like comic books? Then, this is your book! I recommend the book “El Deafo” by Cece Bell. You can get it at the library. I think the reading level is for 3rd grade through 5th grade. It is a real life story but to make it more fun, Cece Bell also uses fictional characters. The book brings out a lot of emotions. In some parts, it’s sad and in some parts, it’s funny. Let me give you a sneak peek: One day Cece did not feel well—she got really sick, so her parents took her to the hospital and they discovered she was becoming deaf!
Two years later, she was going to school. But, guess what happened next? I can’t tell you! You’ll need to read it. I would give this book a 5 out of 5 stars! My favorite part is when she finds a new perfect friend.
The First Day of Third Grade
What are the main causes of bullying? In my opinion, I believe the main cause of bullying is what we look like but we can’t change what we look like but we can change what we wear. In order to make children feel better we can wear school uniforms. I believe that we should have more schools with uniforms. I think that more schools should have uniforms because kids get bullied for what they wear. It is not okay for kids to be bullied especially for what they wear. For example, “seventy three percent of kids said they were not bullied while wearing school uniforms”. This shows that wearing school uniforms does stop kids from getting bullied for what they wear. In a different article the author writes, ” fifty nine percent of kids were bullied for wearing what they usually wear”. This shows wearing school uniforms lowers the chances of being bullied for what you wear. Another reason why think that we should wear school uniforms is because kids are late to school when that don’t know what to wear. In my personal experience being late to school is not fun. You might miss something or fall behind because you just didn’t know what to wear. This shows that being late to school is not fun. Also, scientists say that being late to school can be incredibly stressful and this can cause depression. You would not want to deal with that. So, wearing school uniforms will help students get on time, since you will not have to pick out your own clothes. Finally, we could make money for PTA by selling school uniforms. In an article it says” the average money made by selling uniforms worldwide is one billion dollars each year”. This would be good because we could make more money for our PTA. If we made this more money our school could make more programs buy more things that kids are interested in and more supplies for our teachers. This shows with this money we could buy more things to improve or schools. If we teamed up with the PTA we would have a better school. I know many people would want to express themselves with their own clothes but many schools with uniforms, have Fridays where you can wear whatever you want, others also might say that if then temperature is very hot and were sweating in our clothes, schools give you sets like a collared short sleeve shirt with khaki shorts for boys and a skirt with a collared shirt for girls in the summer. For winter it’s a sweatshirt, collared shirt and khaki pants and girls get leggings, skirt, sweat shirt and a collared shirt. So, you won’t be too warm or too cold. Therefore, I believe that we should wear school uniforms.

You probably like to doodle in random places, whether it’s your homework, classwork, or just plain copy paper. (I don’t think your teachers would like the first two, so you might want to avoid those, and do the last one at home). Some of you may share my passion for drawing as well!
Drawing is like my happy place. All my problems just drift away. All I have to do is be creative, Zen out and put my feelings to paper (or into a computer file if I draw with my stylus on my laptop).
For me, drawing has a structure. I first brainstorm. I come up with an idea. (This step varies in the time it takes depending on my mood and creative feel at the moment). Then, I begin to lightly sketch out my idea. The roughness depends on how detailed my idea is. For example, my sketch of a running girl may be rougher and harder to make out than my sketch of a fictional character’s cartoony portrait since all I have to draw are the shoulders and head.
Then I make my sketch NOT be the equivalent of a five-yearold’s interpretation of a glob of slime and add the final details. Then, if I decide to, I go over the parts I want in the final “piece” in a pen that I find doesn’t smudge. Finally, I color and sign!

Hi, my name is Alina Hara and I’m 11 years old. I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York when I was 4. I barely knew any English due to the fact that in the Dominican Republic most people only speak Spanish. I started learning English at a really young age and now I know tons of English! I started going to GW when I was 5 and was accepted into the dual language program. Being able to be in the dual language program is great for me because I still get to speak Spanish and I also get to learn in English.

I ran home with the news. “Great job, sugar!” Mom said when I broke the news.“You GO, girl! I knew you could do it!” Dad said. So that’s how I did it. I took that leap of faith and I did it!

Joshua and Melanie went out to see the rainbow. When they went outside, the rainbow began to fade even though it was still raining and the sun was out. Then, they saw something fly to them. It was a butterfly that had rainbow wings. Joshua said, “I have never seen anything like this. The butterfly said, “My name is Serina. You were the only people close to me. Can you help me?” “Is this a dream?” Joshua said. “I don’t think so,” said Melanie in a low voice. “What do you need?” Joshua said, trying not to run away. Serina said, “I lost my rainbow sticker that protects rainbows from fading. “Is it that one next to the swarm of bees?” “Yes,” said Serina. “But how do we get it?” Joshua asked. By Scarlette Herr
It was the start of another hot day in Lörrach, Germany. But Mack, (a.k.a Mackenzie), was dreading it. One girl had already told her that the overalls she was wearing were ugly. Even though that hurt her, she ignored the girl. But something else was going to happen with her class that she wouldn’t like. As Mackenzie expected, the day was horrible. Just because she was the new girl, it shouldn’t mean everybody can bully her and treat her differently. What happened during Social Studies changed everything. While Mack was writing notes, a hornet flew in and landed on her nose. Scared of being stung, she did not dare look at the enormous creature perched on her nose. Eventually, the creature flew away. But that made matters worse. Another student noticed the insect and yelled “HORNET!” That startled someone, and they freaked out, and that led to another person freaking out and that led to whole entire class freaking out. Soon everyone was running around the class,

“Let me turn you into butterflies,” said Serina. “Butterflies?” Joshua said nervously. Melanie, though, jumped in happiness. While Serina turned them into butterflies, Melanie almost fainted because of her beautiful wings. Joshua asked, “But can butterflies fly in the rain?” Serina answered, “Yes, but your wings are magical.” While Joshua and Melanie flew to the bees, they got nervous. “I hope they don’t sting me,” Joshua said. Melanie grabbed the rainbow sticker. Joshua said, “How did you do that so fast?” Melanie said, “What can I say? I’m brave!” While Melanie gave the sticker to Serina, Serina had big smile on her face, and the rainbow came back. And then Serina faded away. The End
hands in the air, screaming. Things were going from bad to worse fast, but Mack stayed calm. All that screaming and hands in the air threatened the hornet. So now it was flying around, stinger out, ready to sting anybody who provoked it. This scared everybody even more, so they started to try to dodge the hornet. Mack yelled to the teacher “OPEN THE WINDOW!” The teacher did as Mack instructed and took cover. When the hornet saw the open window, it went flying right out. Everybody calmed down. The teacher hugged Mack and said, “Mackenzie, you are our hero!” Next, it was Mack’s classmates to gather around her. They asked, “How did you know all of that? How did you learn all of that?” Mack answered, “Well, my dad is a bug exterminator, so I learn a lot from the expert.” Mack stood for ten whole seconds being in the middle of it all. After that the crowd fell apart and everything was back to normal. That meant back to school work! The End

Eagle Eye: The Origin Story By Christopher Tandazo
Creek was a bald eagle who lived with his mom and dad. He was 13 at the time, but he wanted to be an archer. His dad, named Henry, overheard him saying that he wanted a bow and arrow, along with a shooting board. The family had an average amount of money, so Henry bought all the equipment needed to be an archer: a bow, arrows, a quiver, and a target.
Creek was fit, so he didn’t need to work out, but he had never shot an arrow before. The first time Creek shot an arrow, he killed his father! “What have I done?!” Creek cried. Creek’s mother, Melissa, came over to Creek and said, “We’ve got to take him to a hospital. Help me pick him up!” Creek and his mom took Henry to the hospital. They waited for one day, but on the following day, Henry died. When Creek heard the news, he realized that he was too dangerous with a bow to be near anyone he cared about, so he got his equipment and essentials and left the following morning.
Creek didn’t know where to go, so he went to the junkyard and started to practice. He spent 10 hours practicing and improved a lot. By the end he could hit bullseyes without even looking! As night fell, he looked for a place to settle down for the night. He found a McDonalds near the junkyard and got a 10piece, medium fries, and a coffee. After buying all that, he only had $20 left! Creek thought, “I can’t continue to buy meals like this. After I eat this, I’ll have to find cheaper food.” Creek went into a cave that he found between the McDonalds and the junkyard and decided to sleep there. When he woke up, he found that he was in a very nice cave. It was clean and not too dark. “I’ll make this my lair!” he thought. To make sure that no one could get in, he built a wind barrier with his wings. He went back to the McDonalds and found his friend, Derek, working the counter. “Creek!” Derek said, “What are you doing here? I thought you were going to archery lessons?”
By Raul Guzman-Zavala and Christopher Grid was on his first mission. But first, some background. When Grid got his suit, he found a door and opened it. Inside was an empty room with a note that read: You are the last member of the group. You will have to do all the missions on your own. Good luck! Signed, the Bunny Ninja Power Force. He looked around the room. It was pitch black. He turned on the lights and found himself in the headquarters. Suddenly, he began to hear sirens. He looked around. Something was occurring in space! Grid thought, “How am I going to do this?” He looked around some more and found a rocket ship, which made him happy but scared that this was his mission. Grid put on his suit, grabbed his weapons, and boarded the rocket. There was a button on the wall. He pushed it. Suddenly, he heard an engine
roar and he took off! Grid was on the rocket when he heard a rumble coming from the back. He checked the window and saw that he was being sucked into a portal! He found a button labeled “ULTRA SPEED” and pressed it - but it was too late. The rocket was out of fuel and suddenly he was falling into a world he didn’t recognize. With nothing else to do, he wrapped himself into a ball and closed his eyes. Creek saw something falling from the sky and said, “I better take cover!” As it fell, the rocket destroyed the lab, but luckily Creek survived. He approached the rocket when a door swung open. A bunny with a ton of weapons emerged. “Whoa, what happened?” the bunny asked. Creek said, “You came from the sky and fell here.” “Who are you?” the bunny asked. “I’m Eagle-Eye, the superhero around here, replied Creek. “Well, I’m Grid – super
Creek replied, “Um, well, … I kinda ran away.” Derek said “I think you need some free food, then.” “Thanks!” Creek replied, relieved. He ordered a medium fries and a 10-piece, which he brought back to his lair to eat while he watched the news.
Suddenly, breaking news! “ A Super-Villain is at Youth Mountain!”, the reporter exclaimed. “Cops are trying to reach the lair, but there seems to be an invisible force stopping them from reaching the top! How will we stop him? We don’t know what he’s up to, but you can bet that it’s bad news! This has been Sandy May with Bird’s Eye News.” Creek turned off the TV. Fortunately, he had just made grapple arrows, poison arrows and net arrows. Creek left his lair and headed to Youth Mountain. He found the cops who told him “Get out of here! It’s too dangerous to be here!” Creek calmly told him, “Don’t worry. EagleEye has got this.” So all the cops got out of the area and
hero of another world, I guess,” said the bunny. “Come to my lair,” said Eagle-Eye, “ you need some rest.” EagleEye then carried Grid to his lair and laid him down on the bed where he fell fast asleep. Creek was watching TV when he saw the news. “Some bird robbed a bank on Seal Street. Police are on the scene, but they can’t get in. This is Sandy May reporting for Bird’s Eye News.” As the bunny woke, Creek explained what was going on, and off they went. Grid and Eagle-Eye got to the bank and tried to open the doors. “It’s locked!” said Creek. Grid kicked the door down and saw a bird with a minivan. The bird looked at them, then starting shooting and laughing like mad. Grid and Eagle-Eye used teamwork to win the battle. “Hurray!” They both cheered. The two heroes became best friends. Grid moved in with Creek and they had had more amazing adventures.

only Creek remained on the mountain to face the danger.
“Ha ha ha!” he heard the villain shout. “Soon I will get recruits from other worlds and take over this one!” “I don’t think so!” Creek said. “Who are you?” the villain exclaimed “And how did you get past my forcefield?” Creek said “Boom arrows and grapple arrows! Eagle-Eye is here to TAKE YOU DOWN!” “I’m Vorto,” the villain replied “I will take over the world no matter what!” Eagle-Eye shot a grapple arrow to the ceiling, but Vorto forced him down with a vortex. Vorto made Eagle-Eye go through a ton of vortices. Eagle-Eye shot Vorto with a poison arrow, and the loop stopped. “Too bad you can’t stop what’s coming,” Vorto said, and he pressed a button. A vortex opened and Eagle-Eye stopped Vorto with a sleep arrow. “What is THAT?” Eagle-Eye said.

The War Between Cats and Dogs By Sandra Solano
This war was started by the dogs because they wanted cats to go away. They wanted all the love and they did not want to share it… so the dogs declared a war. The ones who lost had to stay away from the humans. The cats said, “okay.” The war started with four rounds of Tic Tac Toe. That was a war for them. General Cat said, “The group that wins all four rounds or the most rounds wins.” Private Cat said, “Let the war begin!” The dogs won two rounds and the cats won two rounds. Both of them were mad so they said, “We both win. There’s enough room for both of us. They went back to their owners and never complained about who had more love.”

The GW student newspaper “Cherry Tree Press” has been a long-standing tradition at our school. The CTP is made possible by the support and volunteers of the GWPTA. This year over 50 students took the challenge to become student reporters and they have filled these pages with their creativity. They each stayed after school to work on their articles and were also required to edit much of their own work at home. As a reporter for the Cherry Tree Press, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are given an amazing opportunity to practice their writing skills and share their stories with our school community. As you have seen, they write about their school, sports, pets and friends. They interview their teachers and classmates. They share poems, opinions and their incredible artwork. We are so very proud of these students! Their enthusiasm made this project very special and we hope all of our GW students, parents, staff, and extended school community will enjoy reading this paper over and over again.
Cherry Tree Press is a true labor of love and it takes a village to make it come to life. Every year we have a host of parents, teachers and personnel who answer our call for help. Without their service and support this “CTP” issue would not have been possible. We would like to thank Ross Abrams and Chuck Sincerbeaux for their dedication to making our students the best reporters they can be and for volunteering their time to share their talents! Without you this issue would not have been possible! We look forward to having all of our current 3rd & 4th grade reporters back next year and we encourage new reporters to join us as well! Congratulations to all of our fifth graders! We know you will have a successful year at Eastview! For everyone else, have a wonderful summer and we’ll see you again next year!

El periódico estudiantil de GW "Cherry Tree Press" ha sido una tradición de larga data en nuestra escuela. El CTP es posible gracias al apoyo y a los voluntarios de GWPTA. Este año, más de 50 estudiantes tomaron el desafío de convertirse en reporteros estudiantiles y han llenado estas páginas con su creatividad. Cada uno de ellos se quedó después del horario de escuela para trabajar en sus artículos y también se les pidió que editaran gran parte de su propio trabajo en casa. Como periodistas de Cherry Tree Press, a nuestros alumnos de 3er, 4to y 5to grado se les brinda una oportunidad increíble para practicar sus habilidades de escritura y compartir sus historias con nuestra comunidad escolar. Como has visto, escriben sobre su escuela, deportes, mascotas y amigos. Entrevistan a sus profesores y compañeros de clase. Comparten poemas, opiniones y su increíble obra de arte. ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de estos estudiantes! Su entusiasmo hizo que este proyecto fuera muy especial y esperamos que todos nuestros estudiantes de GW, los padres, el personal y extender a la comunidad escolar para que disfruten leyendo este documento una y otra vez. Cherry Tree Press es un verdadero trabajo de amor y se necesita una comunidad para que cobre vida.
