Spring 2023 If you are ever on the 3rd floor after school you will find studen running laps around the triangle This is the Schurz Track & Field Team and that where they have to get practice in during Chicago’s unpredictable spring weathe

The season started long ago, mid-winter on January 15th and our twenty track an field athletes have persevered and worked hard that entire time They competed through a total of ten official competitions (one indoor and nine outdoor) and ma great strides earning tons of PRs (personal records) and coming together as a tea The season ends Friday May 19th at St Ignatius for the 3A sectionals which me one more chance for PRs
When asked about a couple of highlights from the season, Coach Marshall cite the following:
● At the Niles West HS Invitational Meet, Schurz team members showed great leadership and maturity ** Coach Marshall had to work field eve and the team successfully managed themselves in impressive fashion

● Another highlight for the season from Coach Marshall, is that more girls participated on the team this season than boys
● 2 underclassmen qualified for Frosh-Soph City Championships: Alexander Falconer (shot put) and Jasmine Andrade (hurdles)

I started in 2000 as a volunteer parent and then in 2004 I was hired as security staff
My favorite memories are of graduation days Seeing the changes of students over the years, and working with my team, coworkers, the admin team, and the parents
I know that I made a difference
To the students Freshman year is the most important year of your four years of high school Make it count High School is a stepping stone to your future The sky's the limit I will never forget my years serving you
To the staff, I will never forget the time that we spent together
I have been teaching for 19 years 11 of those years have been at Schurz I started the Engineering Academy at Schurz and have taught IED, POE, DE and EDD during those 11 years Previously I taught Engineering at Austin Polytechnical Academy for 4 years and before that math at Englewood Tech Prep Academy
I don't have one favorite memory but many good memories of watching students learn engineering basics, taking the students on field trips to places like McCormick Place and S&C Electric Company, and being the coach of the SeaPerch Robotics Club and taking teams to competitions
For students and staff at Schurz: Remember to LOVE - Take time to LISTEN to the people around you, OBSERVE what is going on around you and how people are doing, VALIDATE (respond) to what people around you are telling or showing you, EMPATHIZE with people and situations - there may be a "rest of the story" of why things are happening Give up using your phone 50 minutes out of every hour - you will be surprised how amazing and resilient your brain can be and what learnings you can gain Every day you will be confronted with opportunities and problems to accept and solve - Your brain is the ticket to take advantage and solve them and, more importantly, a sign of great strength is to ask for help when you need to Remember, Schurz is block long and a world wide Take advantage of its unique heritage and great diversity!
I have been working at Schu 21 years and have not worked a other school
My favorite memory was w was assigned to teach the first class I was able to help the stu who weren’t proficient in Engl able to express themselves and able to see them at the end of th was special to me because I wa to help them
For Schurz students and staff: Put your heart into your profession so it’s not just a job, but a part of your life

Right, follows through on a big kick
